True Any%

Just my 2 cents, even though it's only ever had a few runners, I think True Any% should have a leaderboard. It's the fastest anyone has beat the game, and serious runners have run it, so why not include it?

I think there are no great answers for or against. It's a legitimate category, just not an interesting or fun one. But it would be the most accessible to new runners. I watched BBF's run of it and learned something new, though, but it's not really useful for anything unless you accidentally warp yourself somewhere, which did happen to me a few times.

For any future readers of this:

Save -> Transition to another screen -> Bind Shoot and Reload to the same key -> Get close to a savepoint and shoot at it -> Warp

Huh, honestly surprised it's not a category already. We'll discuss it a bit on whether it should be a main category or miscellaneous. If you can find any other True Any% runs and post them in here or in DMs to myself that would be appreciated.

also, in Boshy have a multiplayer, you can to add this category actually: (AnsoWizard and ItzFallenFly) (2ndJabba and millacks)

but honestly we need to recording all's players who are running cuz we can't to know who defeated the final boss

Please don't start adding clutter categories nobody really plays or wants to play. For example, in co-op, you can't do Kracko skip the normal way because enter opens chat, but you can do it by clicking the OK button with mouse, except that might skip 2 frames randomly, which makes it inconsistent. Also, Boshy co-op might contain vulnerabilities and pose a security risk, but this is offtopic.

"True" any% would only be acceptable as a miscellaneous category. It's obviously awful. Do also consider that BBF played it on Ez, and it may as well be played on TA, so it's not just an extra category, it'd be a whole sub-board for the difficulty separation where you'd kind of want to subtract the loads because frames matter in a 2 minute speedrun. I think leaderboards should only be for categories that are already popular / make sense / are fun to play / combinations thereof or else randoms start asking to create ones they end up not submitting to.

Edit: @Wogyt Appreciate the correction/testing. Don't appreciate accusing me of lying. I haven't tested that in a while and was convinced it couldn't be done. (Still offtopic.)

@Hachimen "It's a legitimate category, just not an interesting or fun one."

See, that's just personal opinion. I have always found it a very interesting category. It shows the absolute edges of how broken the game is, and it's literally the fastest anyone has ever gone from starting the game to seeing end credits.

I think you are injecting your own opinion into it too much. It might not be interesting to you, but someone else can find it interesting. There are billions of people on this planet, with different opinions about everything. You may not find it fun, but others possibly do.

I appreciate your concern about co-op, but people have run it, and people will run it in the future.

True Any% makes a lot of sense, once you remove personal opinions. Speedrunning is about beating games quickly, and that category is beating the game as quickly as possible.

Co-op is also a built-in, intended feature of the game. So maybe you want a miscellaneous parent category, and just shove these 2 categories in there.

There are thousands of games with categories where there's only 1 runner. And there are plenty of games that actually do have too many useless categories.

But first, there are multiple runners for both co-op and Any%. Furthermore, these aren't meme categories like "blindfolded", one-handed, or some nonsensical end-point.

My thoughts, both categories are worthy of having leaderboards. But at very least, Any% should be on there.

But really it's up to the runners themselves, I just wanted to share what makes sense to some like me, who browses a lot of SRC games/categories.

It's a mysterious-enough category that a lot of people probably don't run it because they don't even know what it is or how it works. I think it might get a few more runners if it's added as a category.

On the other hand, I agree with Hachimen that category clutter is bad. If it's added, I think it would be better for it to be restricted to a single misc category with only 1 difficulty. It looks like the difficulty doesn't even make much/any difference except for Solgryn?

"True Any%" wouldn't be my preferred name for the category. It kind of insults the current any% (the most popular category) by calling it fake.

United States

@castlecat4legend Yeah, it should just be called Any%. The current leaderboard Any% is "Any% (No WW, DBO)".

The difficulty of Any% is just whatever is fastest, so yeah, there wouldn't be separate leaderboards if someone chose to change the difficulty to something harder, they'd just have a slower run.

Respectfully, I encourage you to share these opinions after you've become part of this community. I'm against adding a bunch of superfluous categories when there hadn't been interest in creating them for the last 10 or so years because they suck or don't accurately represent the skill of each runner individually, which is the case for co-op. And again, in a game this outdated, co-op is a security risk.

I have a conservative view on how adding categories should be handled - if there's an existing interest, the runners can put submissions into a thread. With sufficient activity and merit, a new category can be created.

Any% WW should probably not be a category just because it misleadingly suggests such a player qualifies to be considered a Boshy speedrunner. It would be laughable to have members of the community and even WR holders with 1% of the skills required to complete anything actually challenging in the entire game.

I think this actually counts both for co-op and any% WW - it potentially enables completely unskilled players to have a say in the community.

Generally, I think it's vexing to have to discuss this with people who don't run the game in the first place.
