Is a controller more optimal then a keyboard or the other way around?

It depends what kind of controller and keyboard you have and how comfortable you are in using them. If you are just running any% for either character its not a big deal. But if you start running NG+ Relic switching can become a problem if you are using a controller with too few buttons, keyboard can switch to any relic by using the number keys .You can get around this problem with controller by binding number keys to some controller buttons by using a program like joy2key.
