Hi guys,
Would there be any extra categories we would like to run? I have a few potential ideas:
No major glitches (NMG): As Any% except no big glitches allowed - primarily tractor beam dupe. Asteroid afterburning allowed.
Tarsus only: As Any% but player is forbidden from owning any ship except Tarsus at any point.
No Centurion: As Any% but player is forbidden from owning a Centurion at any point.
There's also the question around Righteous Fire - whether or not we'd apply for it as a separate game on this website or if we'd just create a RF Any% category. There's also then the potential of doing a run between Privateer and RF as a single continuous run.
Love to hear your thoughts.
People have done Tarsus% runs. I'm not one of them, and it is painful, but it's a completely reasonable category to have. No-Centurion actually sounds like fun. No-missiles would be an interesting handicap.
Regarding NMG, we have to decide what is allowed and what is not. I think the only bugs we exploit are tractor duping, grovelspamming(the bug being that you don't have to wait for a response before grovelling again), afterburning past the hunters in Lynn Murphy's final mission, and dodging Kroiz's ambush. Everything else is a feature :D
Then there is the matter of enforcement. It would be a nightmare to verify that grovelspamming was not used. Everything else seems easily verifiable. As for which is "major"... its probably just duping, since that eliminates a lot of interesting decisions, and the other tricks don't. Maybe just call it no-duping% if that is what it ends up being.
For RF, there are 3 possible starts: start with any savefile (which, in practice, would be a centurion with enough money to buy all the new RF gadgets, and very friendly with everyone except retros), start with the default Tarsus, or full Privateer+RF speedrun. And that last category makes me think we shouldn't treat it as a separate game.
Another possible category would be "pacifist"%, where you may not kill anything unless it's a Steltek Drone or you're in the Oxford system. Have fun kiting hunters into asteroids at Palan :D
Righteous Fire seems best to put under a sub-game. I suppose farming could be done there as well for Any% categories, or otherwise an agreed upon save. The continuous run idea sounds interesting. In fact, in some ways RF could be more interesting than the main game because you don't have to do all the missions, only complete the missions for two of the three employers to continue with the story, which means that we have to work out which are going to be the fastest to complete.
--edit-- I just did a test, and while Jolston doesn't have any really high value items, Joplin does (usually) have Plutonium, but no ship dealer. However, you start with more credits (10,000) and some upgrades already (engine 1, jump drive, meson blasters) so you can kit out to farm easier. 10mins to a high spec Centurion is reasonable.
I've just done a run of Righteous Fire, but it seem the old sub-game system is gone? Shall we add RF as extra categories? Like RF Any% or something
Sounds good - can you do that with your moderator rights? What starting conditions did you use - new game Tarsus?
New game Tarsus, yes. I feel like using a continue ship should be only if you are doing a combined run or if we decide on a particular save to load from. And seeing you can dupe for money, a continue ship on any% really isn't necessary.
