Make sure you run xpadder with admin rights and it should work. That's really important if you want old games like RE2/3 to recognize your inputs from external software.

I'm sure you'll notice the improvement! Glad I could help.

You enabled FDS (Fast Disc Speed) in the PS2 settings before running the game, right?

I think GC PAL was here for a reason (cutscene skip and some competition). It is slow as hell? Yes. But still it's the fastest console PAL version.

Challenge runs guides are totally fine imo. They will do no harm in the guides section of each game. People who just wants to run an existing "serious" category will know what he needs to learn.

A thing that I've noticed on NG Veteran so far, the 5-1 boss won't die of just one rocket to the face, it takes some more bullets after that to go down completely.

S-Rank + Glitchless as the category sounds interesting tbh. But still I don't see the point to get rid of S-Rank with the glitch. Seeing other games it will not be a problem to just add 2 more categories.

Then again I honestly think we should discuss changes and new speedstuff for this game when it becomes more active (with an eventual PC port hopefully), not now. Me and eventually Trance doing runs now and then is not going to be enough to call this game "alive" speedrunning-wise. We need actual interest from the people in the game itself, and more categories changes won't be enough for that.

Game length and the particular bullshit regarding hitboxes from zombies and bandersnatchers are one of the main reasons this game is still obscure in number of runners imo, but essentially the huge game length is a problem amongst classic RE runners.

Controller inputs.

I am totally ok for a Glitchless page. Removing S-Rank is bullshit though, just that.

Spainzenix10 years ago

Who asks for glitchless anyways? There's absolutely the need to remove S Rank in order to add Glitchless? Sigh.

There's actually more S-Rank runs than Glitchless, they're just scattered around highlights and YouTube now.

Spainzenix10 years ago

Why? S-Rank can be achieved with the same bowgun glitch and it's a different route for the first part.

And there was more S-Rank runs but the wikia page was deleted before they got posted here.

Add segmented any% anyways, seeing how the other games have 5 to 10 categories this would do no harm.

If people ever seriously asks for a New Game category, what should the procedure be? Deleting the Steam save folder like in RE5 to start from zero? Because just not using infinite ammo and on the other hand being allowed to use all kind of maxed out skills does not make a huge difference to call it NG.

One of the concerns I see about a clean save is that I think you're forced to do the Leon/Helena scripted slow-ass tutorial, so that would suck to begin with.

I create this thread just to hear some thoughts, but at the moment there's no Clean Save NG category on the way, unless there's a lot of people immediately interested on it.

The HD version is really really annoyingly dark in the first areas of the game, but personally after you get out of the prison I never had any other problems with the lighting. Other than that it blows out of the water any other version in loading times.

Is the HD port the best version to run? Yes, even with the shitty lighting issues.

A PC version would be the best outcome to gain attention from Remaster runners, but I think Zero is in their plans way before getting back to porting this game again.

The gameplay is pretty much over there. Only a QTE and done. No problem for me either.

Silly Sony and MS blacking out the cutscenes lol

This applies to a lot of games so it's better to advice here about it.

Make sure you turn off "Smoothing" before you attempt to run any PS1 PSN game on PS3 (yes, the game will look worse, but it's pretty much how it looked on the original machine).

The reason that turning it off helps it's because, first of all, the PS3 PS1 emulation has 3 tiny frames of input lag. It is barely noticeable unless you're playing let's say, a musical game, a super-fast paced platformer or something else that requires EXTREME precise inputs.

Basically if you turn it off you will reduce that tiny input lag to something closer to the precision of an original PS1 controller (but still not perfect). Why it does that? It's because with smoothing ON the emulator is rendering the game differently (sort of an upscaler) so it increases the input lag in favor of better image quality.

It's not a big deal, but hope it helps.

Segmented, Claire% (Up until Disc 2 or Nosferatu) Chris%. I'm ok with all that kind of stuff, especially if it sparks more real competition or just interest in people to learn the game. Full game single segment could be benefited from this imo.

My suggestion would be to add more ACTIVE mods to each game (and supermod per game is a good idea like Arc said).

To have that done well the idea would be to reach out for people that is interested and knows well the game's mechanics and routes (even if they don't run it at the moment) and use each game's forums to debate if the current categories and general leaderboard layout is good enough for everyone to understand and easily get into the game if they're new to the scene.

Also, little by little fill the Guides/Resources section to help everyone to improve.

I'm asking this because I think having a Coop Ada category seems pointless. Why? Because Ada's partner was patched in for no reason when her campaign was designed around only one player.

Sure the second player, a poorman's Hunk, can maybe help to kill mobs faster (pointless for this campaign, centered around "puzzles" and Ada-only QTE interactions) but it's hilarious that he can't interact literally with ANYTHING to make the story progress, not even a door, which makes me wonder if there's a single advantage of running it coop.

I'm wondering if someone would miss that category.

Thoughts?

Spainzenix10 years ago

This game is really inactive, and for the most part everyone is ok to just run NG+ with skills and infinite weapons. A clean save NG category would be a thing if there was a significant amount of runners asking for it.

Spainzenix10 years ago

Coop only OoB would be great though since it's going to be always the fastest way to optimize the game, unless you know, someone develops a new brain for Sheva.

Lately I've been active in RE5 with my coop partner so I'm looking forward to try anything new that is found by the veteran runners of this game.
