Here's the VOD for the First Annual ESTBBWC. I won't spoil it, but congrats to the winner!

The Bears community experienced a triumph last weekend: the successful completion of its first-ever major tournament, bridging a generational gap with a magical interview with its creator, Ed Magnin, and culminating in the crowning of its first World Champion, Tetris_Roo.

Where was FlashTheorie?

He hasn't joined the game's Discord server. He hasn't purchased any of the official tournament merchandise. He didn't respond to requests for him to play in, commentate, or even simply watch the World Championship. He hasn't even asked anyone how it went, after the fact.

Given the above, and given that he has provably approved runs without even looking at them, I can't help but wonder why this person still is the Supermod of this game.

I'm calling for FlashTheorie to do the right thing and to step down as Supermod of this game, so that those who actually care about it, its records, and its community can shepherd it through its new era of prominence in the overall speedrunning community.

The ESWTBBWC is next week. You have ~4 days to get a run on the leaderboard. The event will be held at 4pm on February 20th. Join the ESWTBB discord for questions. http://www.ctm.gg/bears

ACCEPTED PLATFORMS

Due to recent discoveries from the Bears community, we will be disallowing VisualBoyAdvance (VBA) or any emulation system that uses it as a core for play during the ESWTBBWC. (Details of the investigation can be found in the #talk-about-bears channel in the CBM Discord.

It is highly possible that some runs using this emulator were carelessly accepted into the SRC leaderboard, and we call upon any player who knowingly used this now-illegal emulator do the honorable thing: to recall their runs from the SRC leaderboard and to submit new runs played on a legal emulator or on Nintendo-licensed console on an original cartridge.

Known good emulators include: BGB Gambette

Information added as we finalize it:

QUALIFIERS

We will accept up to 16 qualifiers.

Seeding will be determined by a player's rank on the Speedrun.com page for "Full-game" Beginner Trickless. ("Full-game" means the championship run).

Your SRC leaderboard rank as of February 17th is what counts. Times that are not on this leaderboard can't be submitted to the tournament. Changes in the SRC leaderboard after this time won't be counted. Submit your runs as early as possible to ensure they are included on the leaderboard in time.

(You do not have to BE in the top 16 on the SRC page to participate. Rather, all those who declare they would like to participate will be ranked in order of their SRC standing, and the top 16 such players will be qualified into the tournament.)

Information about the speedrun category requirements is on the SRC page for the game. Link to ESWTBB SRC page for the qualifying category: https://www.speedrun.com/extreme_sports_with_the_berenstain_bears/full_game#Beginner_Trickless

Please signal your intent to participate by reacting with :bearYEP: to the relevant post in the Classic Beartris Monthly discord server (the "Forum" link here on SRC). If react with :bearYEP: you are saying that you will participate.

We are committed to crowning a world champion in 2021! So, I'm pleased to announce that the 1st Annual Extreme Sports with the Berenstain Bears World Championship will be held on February 20th, 2021!

Due to what is likely to continue to be an unstable situation regarding travel and gathering in early 2021, this tournament will have to be held online. However, this does open up the tournament to players worldwide who might otherwise be unable to attend in person.

It will be held on http://www.twitch.tv/MonthlyTetris. As we finalize the details around the tournament format and qualification scheme, we'll keep everyone updated.

3, 2, 1, BEARS!

NES Tetris runs at 60fps. If the runner is recording at 30fps, it's possible for the flash not to be capture (since the flash happens at frames skipped in the recording). Happens all the time on Tetris streams.

There isn't really a precedent for running maxouts RTA, but there is a precedent for running it using lines as kind of an in-game timer. For the Tetris community, the primary public high score list is on tetrisconcept and it ranks maxouts by fewest lines to achieve, which is, in essence, a kind of in-game timer.

It's been way too long. Thanks for adding this.

I'm also looking to run the "All Time Trails - Beginner", "...Intermediate", "...Advanced" categories, if those could be added.

The glitch isn't generally accepted by the Classic Tetris community in any competition or leaderboard (for example the score leaderboard on TetrisConcept), so it would make sense not to allow it here.

While no one is currently timing maxouts with LiveSplit, maxouts can be judged by using number of lines to get the maxout as a pseudo in-game timer. Generally speaking, the fewer the lines needed to maxout, the better the maxout.

This makes for a natural leaderboard based on fewest lines needed to maxout. I don't see a reason this couldn't be tracked here on SRC. This is what TetrisConcept uses for ranking on their leaderboard.

Since SRC is generally more well-known than TetrisConcept, this would be a great centralized location for tracking maxouts with a very simple way to rank them by efficiency.

In terms of "only a small handful" of players able to maxout, there are currently over 50. This seems to me to be a more than sufficient number to get a category going.

I have been running the Time Trials categories for a while now and was disappointed to learn that these categories aren't available for this game. I have a few recorded runs that I believe are WRs but there's nowhere to post them. Any chance of this happening soon?
