With a fair bit of chat on the Discord about this, here are my opinions... Edit: Yes, this is a long post. I "may" write a tl;dr at the end...

"Obtain all Ores" is a misleading title for the category (and repeated in the rules section), as it implies collecting the ore blocks - which would require Silk Touch for all except Iron & Gold Ores. I understand that this category was previously titled Mine all Ores prior to the Category Extensions being set up, and at that time of name change, the rules were also changed to now allow the use of "chest found" ingots (From rules: Villager chests for iron ingots or trading for ingots, etc. ) - where previously they were not allowed to be used. I have watched nearly all of the runs in this category, and I believe everyone (except two) have followed the same rules...

  1. Run time ends when all mined Ore Block drops have been collected in inventory: Coal, Iron Ore, Gold Ore, Diamond, Redstone Dust, Lapis Lazuli plus Emerald & Nether Quartz, where applicable.
  2. "Chest found" iron/gold ingots and diamonds have not been taken and used to craft pickaxes. Iron ingots have not been taken to craft Flint & Steel for portal lighting, either.
  3. "Chest found" ingots/gems/minerals have not been taken/used, claiming to be collected without mining the ore block. Exceptions being: CoreKidGaming took iron ingots but still didn't craft them into anything, despite being after the rule change (IMO, probably okay) & Dartanman who didn't collect an emerald that was mined, despite the rules stating that they are to be in inventory, but this run was submitted under old Mine all Ores title, (IMO, not very good).

I would strongly suggest renaming this category to something else, such as "Obtain Ore drops", removing ambiguity and including the three above rules to clarify what is expected during the run. Also, adding a quick inventory check at the end of the run, would be ideal for verifying.

Currently, there are only three runs using the exact same route on the one level in this category, so there could be room for a little extra rule tweaking. This category's rules have a similar line of, Villager chests for iron ingots or trading for ingots, etc. cannot be used. IMO, I am open to allowing "chest found" ingots/diamonds to be crafted into pickaxes or Flint & Steel. Obviously, finding a ready-made pickaxe is quicker in a Set Seed, but on a Random Seed run, finding three iron ingots or diamonds in a nearby village would be quite handy. Also, adding to the rules (somehow), that it be visible in the video proof of breaking the ore blocks as this is the run objective or an inventory check after breaking to show that the broken ore drop was collected.

(Title WIP/New category) From the (English) Minecraft Wiki article on Ore, the ingots/gems/minerals resulting from ores are referred to as Refined Resources. (link: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Ore#Availability) This category would require the player to have collected in their inventory the following items: Coal, Iron Ingot, Gold Ingot, Diamond, Redstone Dust, Lapis Lazuli, Emerald & Nether Quartz. This could be sub-categorised as Overworld, Overworld w/o Emerald and Overworld & Nether, as the other two above categories. (IMO, w/o Emerald may not be needed, as finding a village would be optimal.) These items can be obtained in any manner: Mining, smelting, trading, structure chests, etc. (without cheating/glitching, of course). Not sure if anything else needs adding, maybe also add a quick inventory check at the end of the run for verifying.
