Is it possible that the Mid-Air run glitch has been fixed in the PC version? Or am I doing it wrong?

Those Stockyards strats are pretty awesome though.

stupid thing for paramonia

Englandrtsmarty10 years ago

No I mean when you fall over when the Slig runs into the bomb. Rather than exiting the possession normally, you fall over. 1:45:00 in the video, you fall over. 1:46:05 (second try) you don't.

Englandrtsmarty10 years ago

Maybe it's not the only thing that causes it but there's definitely correlation there. I've watched a lot of your VoDs and it's exactly the same thing for every one I've watched. When you fall over, the lever doesn't work. When you don't fall over, it works.

There's also that you say that it's been fixed in the PC version, and I can not get Abe to fall over no matter how close I get him to the bombs, so maybe that's how they fixed it?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it's worth testing at least.

Good job with the sub 2 by the way. :)

Interesting idea I had today. You can take up to 3 Shrykulls from Zulag 3 into Zulag 4 with the infinite roll glitch.

Might be a dead end but maybe someone can make something of it. My own idea for any% with all 3 Shrykulls lost 5+ seconds overall because getting all 3 Shrykulls takes a long time compared to the regular any% route. Maybe getting just 1 is better, which won't make Zulag 3 much longer but might be able to save a bit of time in Zulag 4.

So I just got the invincibility glitch whilst in the Paramonian Temple. I managed to get it all the way back into the Monsaic Lines (going into Scrabania crashed the game though), so I posessed one of the sligs there and had a look. There were no birds and no chanting mudokons on the ledge above the birds. I guess that skipping Paramonia/Scrabania is impossible.

So Shade I was watching the video on your Youtube channel about the Zulag 3 lever glitch and noticed that every time the lever stopped working was when the explosion from the mine made you fall over while you were possessing the Slig. The two times that the lever worked were when Abe didn't fall over. (The same applied in your other video of the whole run). Could that cause it? I've tried to recreate Abe falling over from the explosion but I just can't, no matter how close I get him to the mines, so I can't test it.
and also to jump straight to the lever without climbing down the platforms in the fourth area where you possess the slig.
I'm not really sure what you mean here :( I know where you're talking about but I can't seem to do it.

Englandrtsmarty10 years ago

I have no idea what causes the glitch to go away but you don't have to use it immediately. I think maybe doing another double-jump might cancel it but I'm not 100% sure. Regular jumps, hops, hoists and drops seem to be fine. Hanging is fine. Running into a wall is fine. Quicksave/load is fine.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work between rooms though. So you can't get it in one room and use it in another.

It does only seem to work on certain tiles though. E.g. in the Paramonian Temple vid, you need to go into that corner before rolling. If you just climb up and try to roll/jump left you'll just jump. But go into that corner first and you'll keep going.

I really don't understand the specifics.

Ah, honestly I thought the bombs would reset after entering the door. Should've checked, sorry.

I just tried sneaking, and I'm not really sure it's any slower. I just timed really inaccurately (just using a clock). Slig -> Other slig took roughly 8 seconds, sneaking to elevator took roughly 5 seconds (compared to 1 second running). So sneaking is 2 seconds faster, I think?

Does talking to the mudokon at that range to the Slig wake him up? Try the way I do it in my video (2:23). I think that way should be quicker anyway because there's less backtracking and you only need to speak to him once.
Explain to me again how the double jump works? I cant understand what ur doing to ensure the infinite roll happens. It looks like ur just jumping twice, which is hard to gauge in a speedrun cuz ur always jumping, cuz jumping is faster than running.
That's it really. You just jump twice. The important thing is where the second jump lands. There's two ways to get it that I've found. One is to grab a ledge from the second jump. The other is ... what I said above which I find really hard to explain. I can't think of a better way than "jump twice off of a ledge but get really close to the edge with your second jump".

Afterwards, you start rolling forward and try to jump while rolling. I usually jump as soon as I start rolling.

The first place I got it consistent was the entrance to the Stockyards, it's quick to get to if you want to practice it.

(I was going to submit that to the devs and tell them to fix it)

Englandrtsmarty10 years ago

Possessing the Slig and killing the other Slig near the beginning seemed quite slow. I don't really have anything to time with right now but is this any faster? It feels faster but I dunno.

(The first room didn't go too well, but I don't think the rooms need to change at all)

Englandrtsmarty10 years ago
I wouldn't call it a double jump, kinda a glitchy fall lol.
I mean that's how you do the glitch. You have to jump twice, quickly. Just jumping off of a ledge doesn't work, it has to be the second (or more) jump.
So it always happens when u get that animation?
I don't think so, you sometimes get it without any change in animation at all. (like the paramonia video)

I've never gotten the animation that you got in Monsaic Lines btw, I was talking about the infinite roll glitch you got whilst in Rupture Farms.
Like maybe rolling straight into FreeFirezone from monsaic lines :P
I just tried it and apparently there's another invisible wall. :(

Also I found another glitch, drop a coin right at the edge of a ledge and you can run off of the ledge and then jump to get an extended jump. I can't think of anywhere else off of the top of my head that it would be useful, but it shaves a bunch of time off of the first screen of Scrabania because you don't have to get Elum.

You can also use it to skip the second spirit ring for the Elumless section. Because you don't have to hang, you don't have to blow up the first set of mines.

I also got the invincibility glitch again (in the same room, but in a different place) and it works when moving from Zulag 3 -> Zulag 4. You probably still won't be able to use it to skip Paramonia/Scrabania because mines still blow you up. :(

I'm certain that I know what I did this time, but again trying to recreate it didn't work. I can't figure it out.

Englandrtsmarty10 years ago

Ok I found another way to get the roll glitch but it's hard to explain. It's kind of similar to the other way, you double jump off of a ledge, but you've got to fall off close to the edge. I've found two places where this saves time (any% only unfortunately for both of them. Would it be better to make a new thread?)

It does work with the safe strats too. Double jump when you're about halfway through the steam and you'll land where you need to, though you'll need to avoid the mine. You jump pretty close to it. Going into the corner is necessary because it only seems to work on some tiles?

The second place is in the Paramonian Temple, which skips the meat machine and the boulder:

It's not a huge time save but eh. 3 seconds maybe? The setup takes quite a long time unfortunately. Hoisting up to avoid the Paramite looks scary but I've tried it quite a few times and have never failed it so far, though I thought that about the Sligs in the Stockyards so.

Figured it out while watching your 100% video, around 5:53, where you get the glitch. That's the sort of movement you need.

Englandrtsmarty10 years ago

I've had this happen on PC, so it's not a PS4 thing.

Englandrtsmarty10 years ago
A friend of mine who was playing casually got a glitch in the 3rd stockyards secret area that sounds just like the invincibility death glitch in Abes oddysey, the one you use to get to FFZ early. If we can replicate it, it can cut the run by 50%.
I just got this but I don't know what causes it. Afterwards I tried to get it again. I figured it would be pretty easy because I knew exactly what I'd done (I only started the game 5 minutes before) but it didn't happen again.

(I only got a minute and a half of the glitch, the rest of the video is trying to get it again)

When the Slig shot me after the pulley got to the bottom, I spawned next to the rag-dolled Abe rather than at the beginning of the level and I could run through the electric fences and the Slig ignored me.

I don't know what I did different on my first try. Outside of some Quickloads, I think I did exactly the same thing.

Englandrtsmarty10 years ago

Found a way to get the infinite roll glitch consistently but I can only find one place where it's useful

(Sorry I messed up once while recording, the death isn't important) Basically you double-jump to grab a ledge of a platform on the same level as you. Then you start rolling and try to jump out of the roll.

There were a couple of other places I thought of in the Stockyards but it didn't work out.

I don't think it's the only way to get the glitch, but maybe knowing more about what causes it might at least make it less likely to happen when you don't want it to. It's a really annoying glitch.

Englandrtsmarty10 years ago

I don't know what to do about this. Can the Leaderboards be changed to sort by In Game Time by default?

I feel like I've cheated my way to the top but I didn't mean to. Sorry.

Englandrtsmarty10 years ago

I can get the Quicksave glitch on my Linux partition no problem but I can't get it on Windows at all.

I can only get it to work by pressing both Quicksave and Quickload at the same time. I don't know if that's how the video did it but the video doesn't show the angry mudokon that comes up when you try to Quickload too quickly after Quicksaving, so I think he must be doing something different. A couple of the videos on his channel are marked "pre-game release" so maybe they only introduced that behaviour afterwards? It's not really something that they'd need to worry about for the PS4 version since you need to hold the button for a while to Quickload anyway.

Maybe it was a bug that they only fixed on Windows? I'm pretty sure the original video is on the Windows version, at least, because the little messages that appear between areas don't come up on Linux and they do in the video.

I made a video of the last areas of the game (where the glitch can save the most time, I think) as kind of a proof of concept I guess. It saves around a minute and a half over starwin's run, despite making a load of mistakes and (what feels like) pretty bad slowdown. I'm not sure how much of that could be down to loading screen differences.

Englandrtsmarty10 years ago

Technically they don't despawn, they just go to sleep in front of their respective kennels for some reason. So you need to make sure that all of the slogs from the furthest right kennel run into the electric wall, otherwise they'll be waiting for you when you get down from pulling the lever.

That's why I waited a little while before pulling the second lever on the any% video, just to be sure that they'd all run into the electric. But at the same time, if you don't get the Slig into the corner then the camera will pan back to Abe instead of teleporting, which is pretty slow and gives the Slogs more of a chance to catch up, so you can't leave it too long.

Englandrtsmarty10 years ago

end of zulag 4 stuffs

100%:

any%:

The goal in the any% video is to kill the Slig with the second grenade. Timing is a bit tricky, usually I start aiming when I see the explosion from the first grenade, but I messed up and threw it a bit early there (worked out anyway).

Not killing the Slig makes things ... tricky. You can avoid him while getting to the top lever, but he can shoot you through the gate that drops when you press the button on the elevator, so you'll probably have to possess him anyway. A little unfair:
