Some people have started running the game emulated on their PS3. The emulator loads everything much faster which allows people to reach otherwise impossible times. You can see a comparison video here, emulated run on the left and original console run on the right.

Here are links to the two runs in their entirety if you want to compare specific sections of the game.

I rejected this emulator run but the runner in question claims I am abusing mod powers and not communicating with the community, I would like to see and hear this community he is talking about before doing anything further. Feel free to show yourself in the thread here and voice your opinion on this situation. The run is back up and PS3 emulation is allowed for now. I'll contact any runners I know and ask them to post their opinion. Let's have a public discussion here on what we should be doing with these runs.

Personally I would prefer banning the runs. It is a blatant unfair advantage over runners who play the game on the original console. If you want to play the game competitively don't move the goalposts around and expect every other runner to go and buy a first edition backwards compatible PS3. Everybody who runs this game already owns the console the game was designed for, and nobody else has randomly started running the game on something different until last week. Getting the fastest time should be decided by how fast you are at playing the game, not by playing on different hardware that plays the load screens 5 minutes faster than everyone else. This is my opinion.

Looking at the most popular PS2 game on the site here the standard seems to be not allowing PS3/emulator runs at all. http://www.speedrun.com/kh2

Sorry it has been a bit of a messy process but we haven't had people drop in and post impossible times on the leaderboard before. Let's take our time so we end up with the best solution for the Klonoa 2 speedrun scene going forward.

People have recently started running a PS2 game on their PS3.

The emulated PS3 version loads sections a lot faster, and it has resulted in an otherwise unreachable time blowing out an old record in the most popular category by more than a minute.

Here is the game in question. http://www.speedrun.com/klonoa2

If you see it from us old runners point of view we have spent a lot of time routing and improving at this game, and we would prefer not to see all our old times effortlessly getting blown out without any new gameplay-related time savers.

It's a bit of a divided community and we cannot ban PS3 runs without pissing the other half off.

I think everybody would be happy with a solution where you can have PS2 and PS3 runs side by side while still keeping both consoles equally competitive.

Something like an "adjusted" time as seen in the Guitar Hero community would be perfect to allow people to compete on both consoles.

Here is an example of a leaderboard with adjusted scores. http://www.scorehero.com/rankings.php?group=2&game=0&diff=4&song=619

The only time difference between PS2 and PS3 is the time spent loading in between sections/levels, I will be happy to time this if it can help out with this problem.

If that is not possible another solution could be to have seperate leaderboards for consoles, which is also seen on this Scorehero page.

It doesn't make sense having the PS3 runs unadjusted alongside the PS2 runs because of the enormous time difference, it is impossible to compete on the original console in any sort of full game category.

I hope you can help us out.

After some thought we've decided to add PS3 support to the leaderboard here. It might sound like a no-brainer but load times are different on the PS3, making it difficult to compare runs between the two versions. Please specify which console you are using when you submit a time. PC emulators are still off limits, please do not post runs from these.

yo this page here http://www.speedrun.com/cscz is very lacking and the sole moderator is impossible to talk to. I've tried talking with the guy but he tells me he has no idea what I'm talking about and disappears/ignores me. Please let me set it up properly. here is an example speedrun of the "Tour of Duty (Normal)" category that is most common. http://www.twitch.tv/quubespeedrun/c/3580789 . other categories I will add are Tour of Duty on Easy, Hard and Expert.

please add categories for the tour of duty campaign. tour of duty (normal) is the most commonly used speedrun category for this game and I would be happy to see the other difficulties on here as well (easy, hard and expert)
