For video submissions, please include the results screen that occurs after the run. For clarity, the results screen is the screen that shows the course leaderboard for times and the fastest lap (for non-Reverse courses).

Requesting PS4 and PS5 be added as platforms for the game, as the game was released as a title for PS+ Premium on those platforms (and is a very good version of the game to boot): https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP0700-CUSA33740_00-RIDGERACER200000

Also requesting to add fastest lap categories! Please and thank you!

Since some of the records are offsite, I've created a spreadsheet for tracking all known WRs. There's an added bonus in the form of the Other ILs sheet which tracks best known times without using specific shortcuts that are not categorized as Skips on a few courses.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1smQBE8lgMRj5ozIFz86JqXKJlPBXhyOj3PBg1g77w8s/edit?usp=sharing

I'll be attempting to keep this up-to-date as long as possible, but it should have a timestamp showing the last update if I get behind at some point.

Not sure if this could ever be useful for speedrunning, but there's definitely something weird about certain bits of geometry. More investigation needed.

I determined how to accurately re-time runs, so I figured I'd put an explainer here.

I use Avidemux to re-time runs, as it is a very simple and straightforward program that allows you to set an A and a B point, then determine the elapsed time between them exactly.

For RTA runs in Excitebike 64, the timer starts when the player presses A on the Rounds preview screen, but the game takes a moment to acknowledge this press on-screen. Therefore, simply timing from the first visible change (the right side of the screen begins darkening) to the final frame (the frame the "Press START to Continue" dialog pops up at the end of the last race) is not correct.

I used Bizhawk's N64 emulator with frame advance to determine how long between when the A press occurs and the first darkening frame, and came up with 6 frames, or about 100ms.

Therefore, to accurately re-time a run, measure the time from the first darkening frame on the Rounds preview screen to the "Press START to Continue" text appears, then add 0.100 to the final time.

Reference timing frames: https://i.imgur.com/6aTP4sO.png (The above frame takes place 0.100 seconds after pressing A) https://i.imgur.com/RwWxCBa.png

NTSC

Valid: 0, 1, 3, 5, 6, 8
Invalid: 2, 4, 7, 9

PAL

Valid: 0, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8
Invalid: 1, 3, 7, 9

These are the values the game may award for the final digit in the decimal (centiseconds) for in-game times. The game will never give a time ending in 7 or 9, on any version. Times ending in 1 or 3 only occur on NTSC, while times ending in 2 or 4 only occur on PAL.

Excitebike 64 bug?

It happened by accident when I was playing properly at the beginning of the release. It was interesting, and it didn't seem to be on Niconico yet, so I gave it a try. Here's how I found it:

  1. Choose the special course Excitebike 3D
  2. Change the rider to Nigel (didn't happen with other riders)
  3. Make all 3 other riders fall right after the start (It might be easier to do it like a video) That's

it. There may be other ways, but this is what I found.

I wonder how many people have found this to happen...

Looks like this occurs when you impact a slope while the nose of your bike is facing close to straight down. More investigation needed.

Found a JP runner who was active in late 2020 who set tons of impressive times - some of which are still WR today. I've reached out to this player, will let you know if I hear back

This has been an observed rule for years now, but it is now an explicit, listed rule.

https://www.speedrun.com/stunt_race_fx is weird. @thegamer1185 's runs appear on the IL summary page, but don't appear on the main pages unless you set the Flashcart variable to the value it is already set to by default. Nothing is hidden and all the variables are set as usual. I'm not sure what's going on here. Any ideas?

Moving to a more open leaderboard with flags. Use the filters to exclude runs you don't wish to compare.

  1. FXPak/SD2SNES is allowed. Do not use SuperFX Turbo - standard settings must be used. Mark the run properly with the flag.
  2. Speed Trax is allowed for ILs. Mark runs properly with the flag.

Emulator has been unhidden by default on the boards. Preferred emulator is the latest version of PCSX2. Remember to write the version of the emulator used in the description! Thank you!

Below is a link to a pre-configured Mednafen emulator setup to ease getting set up for King's Field speedrunning, as other emulators are banned. Mednafen normally works from the commandline, so we've included Mednaffe, which provides a graphical user interface and makes working with the program much easier.

https://www.mediafire.com/file/4aud7e8kcw8clkb/mednaffe_clean.zip/file

Instructions:

  1. Extract the .zip archive to its own folder
  2. Add your PS1 BIOS files to /firmware/
  3. Add your disc image (bin/cue, etc.) files to /Games/
  4. Launch mednaffe.exe
  5. Double-click on the .cue file for the game you wish to run
  6. Press Alt+Shift+1 on the keyboard to enter input configuration mode
  7. Press the requested buttons on your controller or keyboard Input mapping notes:
  • You have to press each button twice for (1) and (2)
  • When it asks for Rapid, just press the same button again - Rapid is disabled in the settings

That's it! Let us know if you have any questions! Join the Discord!
