Deleting all of your previous messages is also a pretty bad look.

Leviathan has been a mod for weeks. The site got rolled back after a problem with account passwords, so his moderator spot on CE was removed from the roll back. You don't have a "spot".

Both RE2 and RE2 Extensions are not looking for more moderators at this time.

Here's the discord link. There are a few channels in the DMC5 category, so feel free to post any info/discoveries in their respective channel.

It's completely up to you how you run the game. As long as you abide by the rules, you are free to post a run here. Will you get your own category for not using a knife? No. Although, the Category Extensions leaderboard forums would be a better place to discuss the possibility of adding it, as others have also thought about not swinging a knife.

Runs are not being accepted before the 22nd of March. This is to allow enough time to sort out categories, rules for said categories, and allow time for all of the moderators/verifiers to play the game.

Depending on how the Deluxe Edition and DLC works, this is just a general idea of some rules that have already been thought of.

New Game category will not allow DLC and Unlockable/NG+ content. This does not include purely aesthetic changes, or changes to the soundtrack.

NG+ will allow Unlockable/NG+ content, but DLC will still not be allowed.

IF PC and Console have major differences, these theoretical categories may be subject to change. They also may change based on how Deluxe Edition/DLC content works.

At the moment, we have no idea how this speedrun is going to turn out, so I ask that everyone remains patient during the two week period. A team of moderators has been chosen, and we will do our best to update everything based on community decision. During that time, I suggest that everyone just has fun with the game. Feel free to post your discoveries and ideas in a forum post for everyone to see.

Let's rock, baby!

Every moderator does work and wants what is best for the community. That is exactly why we wanted to ask the Glitched runners what they want to see with the boards after this latest patch. They put in the time and the effort to understand and run the category. If you don’t have any interest in running Glitched, or helping with the advancement of the category in general, then please refrain from trying to change it to what YOU see fit. This is a community discussion, but the people participating in Glitched have priority on this.

From what I can see so far, everyone agress that 1.00 will most likely be faster than 1.03 accross the boards. Thankfully, it’s not so hard to downpatch. If you don’t have a physical copy on console, then that’s unfortunately going to be needed for 1.00. Perhaps a Variable will work for now, and it cam be officially split further down the line with more discoveries/research?

If you agree with that, please tag me and let me know.

As for the random drama that spurred...let me take a moment to defend myself and the other mods. @666deadhunter I moderate a ton of games and have NEVER had a community member be so outraged with me, proclaiming that 1 out of 8 other mods/verifiers is doing everything. You are completely unaware, and sound like a real moron right now. I have done a lot of moderation on this website, and I have helped many games with more concrete rules, and healthier boards. Some have even seen spikes of activity, thanks to my work. Keep your misinformed, bullshit accusations to yourself.

@Eleval, I helped DMC immensely so whatever you’ve heard is probably from someone who just didn’t get it their way. Yet another situation where I turned to the community for their vote, instead of just doing it my way.

I promise you that I am more than fit for this position.

We won't consider your vote, seeing as you don't run the category, or care about glitches. We asked for the OoB runners to give their input on the category that THEY run. Besides, you just insulted everyone who has put work into discovering strats/routes in this game, and simply called them monkeys. How are we supposed to take you seriously with that kind of attitude?

I fixed everything up to match the main leaderboard. Going to keep the current categories as they are, but feel free to post some challenge runs in the forums and we'll discuss whether or not to add them. Have fun!

I don’t post on the forums very often, but this is one where I simply must share my thoughts.

FPS: This has been discussed countless times. I, and other mods, have explained that things are subject to change. Making 60 and 120 their own category isn’t just off of the table because it isn’t implemented every time someone makes a forum post whining about it. You are extremely impatient, and completely unaware of how much thought we’ve put into this. Be patient, and we’ll get to it eventually. There’s even a Variable setup for easier implementation in the future.

Changing Res/Graphics: There are quite a few people who would love to run at 120, but there CPU/GPUs run a bit short to do the Knife Strats optimally on boss fights. It takes about 10 seconds to change settings and let’s those runners compete against other 120 runs. The WR for Claire A Standard is a great example. I see no problem with this at all, especially since this is PC. Many other games, including RE7, allow this.

OoB: The OoB run, despite being the “true any%”, completely throws away the greatest things about RE speedrunning, and survival horror in general. It’s no surprise that people would rather run the normal categories. It will remain the way it is, and does not need to be messed with. If people want to skip most of the game, then they can. A category doesn’t need to be a main category, or even be on the LB for people to run it. People were running Knife Only before we even added it to the Extensions.

Now for the Rules that TLAU asked about.

Audio: YES, you need distinguishable audio for your run. This is almost like an unwritten law in speedrunning that should be upheld. We don’t want to hear your spotify playlist, and we don’t want your vids muted. Is clean game audio really so much to ask for?

Pausing: Pausing for a couple of minutes to go to the bathroom or quickly let your dog/cat out of the room or outside is totally fine. Answer an important phone call or talk to a family member that needs your attention. As long as its only a couple of minutes, it’s fine. That rule is there because it lets people not piss themselves or let their animal piss themselves for the sake of beating a game fast. If you decide to pause your game for 20 minutes to make food, watch TV, and do laundry... yeah, that’s clearly a rejection.

Display FPS: This is needed for us to verify that Variable framerate isn’t being used, or that someone is running over 60 under the 60 Variable. 120 is a good mid-ground framerate. It’s double the amount of 60, but not set so high that people can achieve it without major PC/Monitor upgrades. If you want to run a higher FPS, then do it. We won’t accept it here, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it and post it online or something.

RES/Graphics: Yes, we allow it because if you want to run 120 and don’t have steady 120 in boss fights, that leads to not being able to do the optimal fights. Nobody seems to need to change these options for anything other than boss fights, so that’s why it says that.

Everyone is up in arms about so much of this stuff, and a lot of the people who have the most to say, seem to have no intention of running the game if things don’t go there way. That’s a terrible mindset to have. YOU’RE ruining the experience for yourself, not us mods. Run the game and enjoy it, despite not agreeing with everything in the first couple weeks after it’s release. Ya know, instead of going wild in the forum threads.

Also... Sephjul, nothing against you, but that last accusation of moderators being “cocky” and vocal, and you wanting us to be removed, is absolutely ridiculous. We’re doing the best we can and it’s extremely ungrateful for you to throw our work aside like that. Your words do not go unnoticed, but try to be respectful to the people who have worked on this, instead of making huge whiny forum posts saying those hard working people should be tossed aside.

That’s about all I have to say on these matters. Some of you may not like what I’ve said, and that’s fine. Just know that we have been working hard since day one, and we DO want what’s best. These things take time and we just hoped people would be patient with this. Not everyone will agree with each other, but please don’t let that stop you from enjoying and running the game. I hope you understand.

It seems your video won't play. It just says "video is unavailable to view".

California, USAmaxylobes6 years ago

Yes, it is necessary. Variables and sub-categories are there for a reason. Easily identifying who is competing with who is pretty important for a game such as this one. I'd like to remind you that this game has been out for one week, and PC and Console could be even more different in the future. Especially with the recent discovery of duping by dragging the mouse quickly in the item box?

So, just a little bit of information about what is currently happening regarding the game for release:

Runs are not being accepted before the 1st of February. This is to allow Moderators to play the game before verifying runs, as to avoid spoilers.

In New Game, DLC and Unlockables are banned. This does not include purely aesthetic changes like costumes and the soundtrack swap. Only items that give players an in-game advantage.

In New Game +, all Unlockables are permitted, whereas advantageous DLC is still banned.

  • For now we've chosen to setup the board in the following way:

  • New Game (Standard)

  • New Game (Hardcore)

  • New Game + (Any difficulty permitted)

Idea behind this is, NG+ is going to be the mode where you run through everything with everything at your disposal. It's a practice of how fast one can perfect movement / aiming, and will be primarily focused on optimization of such rather than ammo/health management.

New Game will be focused around Standard and Hardcore, similar to the original RE2. Standard has far greater depth to the routing / strategy that can take place due to the dynamic difficulty, and will likely require a lot of time put into it to fully optimize that simply won't exist in the likes of NG+. Hard is the game peaked at its absolute highest difficulty at all times, so will require careful play as well as speed to optimize.

We tried to best balance the categories, and this just seemed like the most logical approach to equally balance everything out. You have an equal choice of pure speed (NG+), a balance between speed and difficulty (Standard), and a category that will focus a lot more on being harshly difficult (Hardcore).

For 1st run/2nd run, this will be added, but we just want to play the game to verify how they actually work before adding them. It'll probably be setup similarly to the original RE2, also.

They aren't obsolete because they're done on different maps. They may not be categorized that way, but they are still up there for people to see what the fastest times for each map are.

Hey everyone! I recently acquired new monitors that allow me to play at 2560x1440 Resolution (144hz), along with using DP cables instead of HDMI. Now that I have this new setup, The Suffering is extremely unstable. I'm getting audio bugs that increase the speed of dialogue and sound effects, as well as VERY frequent crashing. I consistently crash on Mission 2 EVERY time it loads. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue, and if there are any possible fixes. I've reinstalled twice, so that doesn't help. I've also turned the hz down to 30 and changed resolutions/windowed mode. I'm running out of ideas.

I'd love to get back to this game with the new routing and skips, as I've learned it all, but I can no longer play the game with my new setup. Thoughts?

California, USAmaxylobes6 years ago

I've contemplated creating a new category for a while. A category where every level is completed, rather than skipping half of the game. Upon Pakachan's arrival to the community, he has put so much work into Any%, as well as routing this new category all by himself. I have decided to finally add it, and I believe it will be a great addition to this board.
