AFAIK the mod isn't giving any unfair advantage to anyone, as such I don't see a problem with it.
Would be nice if the mod was more easily/widely available though. I'd be happy to link it in the resources section if possible.
There's a trick to getting those high jumps. It's been a while since I ran the game, but if I recall correct, then you need to land the previous jump without gliding — i.e. canceling the jump at the exact height to clear the edge of the block you land on — then your next jump will have additional height. There's a bit more into here: https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/mighty_jill_off.html
I think some of the latter runs use a new technique that I'm not too familiar with, but I also think that only works with the mod (which appears only to be available on the Discord). I'm sure some of the people in the Discord will be happy to share techniques and stuff.
Ah, nevermind. Checked Discord. Appears that it's an accidental deletion and the mods are currently working with SRC support to get the categories reinstated.
The leaderboards for those two categories are completely empty but the rest seem fine (from what I quickly checked).
I had a bunch of runs awaiting approval and they also seem to be gone.
Anyone know what happened?
Don't know if this is old news, but this happened in a run:
I just crashed the helicopter into the wall as usual but it resulted in me clipping into the wall and warping slowly upwards, just like it happens in level 3 and level 25 when clipping through a ceiling from a slope.
No idea if this is actually useful anywhere though.
Updated the playlist to include, among other things, some better boss quick kills utilizing bounce cancelling and Messenger's ceiling strat on the world 3 boss.
Here: https://www.speedrun.com/izbot2/guide/fmrqd
By all means, let me know if something is missing/inaccurate. :)
I've recorded a few level strats in this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFqdBnz4QwH6LfTBUKOScM2phm5Ac5SO9
Execution is far from perfect, but you get the idea.
Edit: YouTube seems to not want to publish the videos...?! I'm trying to fix it.
Edit 2: Fixed.
Sorry. I haven't started up Discord since forever. I should probably remove it from my profile here.
I messed up and added "Hello Kitty Kruisers" (without the "(Switch)" in the title). 🤦♂️ I even added @Pokehero as a super mod before I realized my mistake. And apparently game titles can't be changed, nor can games be deleted... So yeah, maybe someone can get an admin to change the title? Or I can just add it one more time — this time with the correct title.
However, before I go and do that, wouldn't it make more sense to keep all leaderboards under one title? I don't actually know if you can limit a category to a single console (maybe with the help of variables?), but I think it'd be worth checking out before adding it as a separate game.
Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud. Let me know what you need/want me to do. :)
Yeah, this is all well and good, but as long as it's still opt-out it means literally nothing.
Also kinda curious to know how Elo is going to handle this...
- Where do we go to report illegal content in comments?
- How many resources have they allocated to moderate the content that they've now opened up for?
- Since it's opt-out, are they going to moderate comments on abandoned accounts and on runs where the mods simply don't want the extra hassle of moderating comments?
If this ham-fisted approach is any indication of the future, then I guess it's back to Google Sheets for the few, small games I mod... Generally I feel like the lack of communication from Elo speaks louder than what little communication has come from them. They're doing the bare minimum to appease the angriest and loudest people/communities with absolutely no commitments to not make similar mistakes in the future. I'm taking that to mean that it wasn't really a mistake as much as it was a strategy or at least something they had accounted for. And again, I'll be happy to be proven wrong...
Comments are still opt-out... I mean, I'm happy that Elo has finally decided to let mods disable comments on games, but opt-out vs opt-in is (IMO) where they throw their true colors, and sticking with opt-out doesn't exactly signal concern about their users.
Yeah, enabling comments for runs that were added before comments were enabled is just an incredibly bad idea. In my mind, this is what needs to be done before this is close to acceptable:
• Comments should be made opt-in everywhere, individually for users, and per game decided by the mods, with "disabled" always taking precedence—i.e. if a user has comments enabled but a game has them disabled, then "disabled" wins. • All comments up to this point needs to be wiped. A complete reset. It's ridiculous that runs posted 8 years ago suddenly have comments enabled and people can post all kinds of shit there. • Elo should be transparent about how they intend to moderate comments in terms of both guidelines and resources. It's fine to let the community moderate stuff themselves (if they want to), but when someone inevitably posts death threats, child porn, and other illegal stuff, there needs to be staff at Elo that can act swiftly in removing it and assist law enforcement if need be. • There needs to be (better) modding tools if you absolutely insist on keeping comments around. You can't expect people to moderate stuff themselves and give them nothing to do it with. Notifications for the right people is an absolute no-brainer, with bulk deletion and bans/mutes as close runner-ups.
I gotta say that I'm pretty surprised at how tone-deaf of a move this was. I don't expect things to change but I'll be happy to be proven wrong.
In response to @HowDenKing 's request to have Sanrio Characters Picross added to the Hello Kitty series (here: https://www.speedrun.com/post/h8cdt): Go for it, man! 👍
There are so many fine options for domain names that I think paying an exorbitant sum for highscores.com would be silly. Just a few suggestions that are available (for now):
- highscore/hiscore .guru/.camp/.institute/.academy/.cafe
I think the best option would be to basically dual-brand the site but speedrun.com would default to showing speedrun leaderboards for games while highscore.whatever would default to showing highscores.
I just glitched out the final boss by throwing a potion/bomb while triggering the dialog. I've been trying to reproduce it for about an hour now but to no avail.
Moustache Girl would stay on her throne but she'd simultaneously spawn at the foot of the pile of time pieces and be standing completely still and be able to take damage. I think I beat all of her phases and then the game soft locked forcing me to exit to hub.
No idea if it could make the final boss quicker until I'm able to reproduce it reliably. Anyone else tried something similar?
I also managed to make her disappear from the 2nd phase for another soft lock where I had to exit to hub. No idea how that happened and it certainly wasn't useful.
Since I've been given mod privileges I assume PhoenixRiku is OK with me reorganizing and renaming the categories a little.
"Beat the game" is now "any%" and "All Gems" remains "All Gems" unless someone has a better suggestion — I guess it's technically 100%, so we could go with that to keep it consistent with other games.
The "world X" categories now reside under ILs. (Yeah, it's still not ideal but I think we should keep them since PhoenixRiku appears to be interested in running them.)
I've also added a new IL category: "Best Time (Collect Gem)". Should be pretty self-explanatory.
I'm down for a race too, but seeing as ToRRent and I are in Europe and you guys are United Statesians, we don't have that big of a window to fit it in.
I'm mostly available in the evening/early night — i.e. from around 20:00 UTC (2 PM CST). How does that suit you guys?
