With my post regarding all bosses:

@Akezhar just to clarify, I wasn't suggesting to replace the current category at all. I was suggesting it as another split or sub category to glitches. Also, wasn't trying to say it's a new skip either, was just merely saying what gave me the idea to a boss required category and that it seems to be feasible.

@Nar and @Anderson like I said, this was an idea for a new category and also an attempt to have glitches not just skip the entire game and add in more routing which might also make the glitches categories more attractive. Yes, the result will be a slower time for the new category

Hope that clarifies things :)

I was thinking about this earlier and especially while watching some other youtube clips. I saw a clip from vipeazone that he just posted:

The video is showing airwalking and slight oob to go from the library and into the clock tower skipping the club key.

The main thing that stood out to me is that you still fight g1 (but still skipping some of the game). This got me thinking about another approach to take to this category.

What if instead of making splits based on patch - we make a new split that introduced something new. Something like a category/split that was still glitch based but required you to still do the bosses. I think this might help bring in some other people to the category too as it doesn't just simply skip the entire game and important aspects of the game. Instead it can also bring back routing/customization and what not that seems to be missing from the glitch category. I do believe there actually a lot more of these types of skips out there - i'd have to look back through my testings and others also to know for sure.

One thing is that it would still have to be determined how feasible this actually is.

Anyways, just a thought I had and perhaps another approach to solving the actual issue(s) at hand.

I'd like to hear what others thoughts are on this.

the only time that matters is the in game time that displays at the end of your run.

Splits are just for you and to help you learn where you need to improve.

So, you do not need to display any timers from outside of the game

My overall goal has always been to open the category up to as many people as possible which is why I started making the howto's - not restrict the category.

Here are my thoughts from the unofficial thread:

"This is a hard topic because I can see where it's coming from.

But to compare it to something would be to that of a normal categories route. It's up to the runner to decide the fastest route.

In this situation, it's up to the runner to decide which patch makes them faster.

The reason why there are splits for other categories is for issues such as pay to win due to fps limitations - not because knife is faster in 120.

All in all, there is still two major skips in both patches now that 1.03 has found a sewers skip - so even in that regard they are similar"

The name is in the category, its GLITCH (as in break that game as much as possible) - find the patch that lets you as the runner do the run faster - its about breaking the game and the quickest way possible.

At first no one could do the 1.0 airwalk that everyone is now saying is easy. It wasn't until people were forced to learn it that it became easy. So limiting it to a specific patch just because one is slightly easier than the other just shouldn't be an excuse. As CursedToast said '"It's harder" doesn't mean "it's impossible".' Find your groove and own on the leaderboard through practice of which ever patch you're most comfortable and ultimately fastest with. As far as being able to tell which patch the runner is on, it's extremely obvious to tell based on which sewers they use and if the character hurdles the railing.

I think, if we start splintering it, it'll cause a divide in an already unpopular category if we were to say only run on patch x when both skips are still highly doable and feasible. A category only grows with competition. Splintering it also chances killing any competition as does a barrier to entry (having to downgrade the game just for running glitch category - not to mention, some setups simply can't run anything but current patch).

To me, changing the leaderboards to support multiple patches (splintering) or only accept one patch, both seem like unnecessary overhead (overhead being runners being on the same rule-set AND verifiers having to fight with "but my run was faster, you mean i have to use patch x?") when the point in the first place is to break the game.

not an hour after i posted about us still looking for a sewers skip....

Vipeazone found a sewers equiv skip!

While I can see and possibly agree that it might become necessary for something to change with the categories - right now its just far too soon to determine that for sure.

We are still working on finding replacements to what was patched - could be any day/time that we find a new sewers equiv skip for instance. Or not at all...

At the same time - capcom has made it obvious that they don't really want airwalking to exist and will most likely keep patching it out until they finally fix the animations... Which is only continuously resetting this scenario

So, to determine if we need a new category or changes - its simply just to soon imo... unless we want possibly weekly revamps to the leaderboard

Here is a new tutorial for enabling airwalking in 1.03:

at the moment, no one can get sewers to work. But at the same time - since the character now just hops over shit - there may be new skips found soon.

Airwalking Lives - with video proof

Finally got a video of another successful attempt:

it seems that moving towards the railing after the animation still allows airwalking!

This is on pc btw

my guess on the oob type glitch attempting to be fixed is simply because they are still adding dlc and it can conflict with large portions of it... But the funny thing is - they didn't actually take the time to fix the mechanic but instead changed some values. Until they add in a new animation for the front leg - air walking will always be somehow achievable unless they add in some funky ass code. Reliability, though, is another issue and is probably what they were trying to disrupt

I saw that in a video too before 1.03 and ive only seen that done once (by accident). The thing is - labs seems to be pretty closed in and lickers dont like to leave their rooms meaning you cant get out of the actual room once airwalking is enabled

https://www.speedrun.com/re2remake/thread/91th7/ i made a post about this and what we know so far

So some bad news today with patch 1.03.

As of right now - it seems that the patch has modified the auto correction zones that enabled air walking. Though its not completely impossible, it is rather hard. I've only been able to do it once so far and will be continuing testing to figure out exactly whats different.

With this successful attempt I had some notes...

  • Leon hopped a few times before auto correction finally failed and air walking was enabled
  • Leon ended up OVER the railing, meaning head on with the stairs might be what changed
  • some failed attempts seemed to possibly have added in a slight movement backwards during the zombie bite off steps

For the time being all I have is a picture for proof that its still possible...

The picture shows that the patch is downloaded on steam also

As always I'll try to keep everyone here informed on what I find

I found a way to get the bolt cutters from oob which also skips the helicopter crash, Claire cinematic and marvin call all at once. I also added on the parking lot skip into the video since a lot of people were getting soft locked without the bolt cutters.

Edit: turns out something similar with the bolt cutters was in one of the runs that I missed. Anyways - for those that need an explanation on it - Enjoy

Was messing around today when I came to realize.... OOB isn't safe anymore:

Wondering if we can manipulate these oob zombies the same way to re inbound a locked character?

I also found a way to get the crank, diamond key (which is this zombie btw) and activate the kennel shutter all from OOB before you activate the first doggo cutscene. Still working on getting back in bounds from that though, I'll share that video soon too. I'm trying to figure out a way to save more time on Leon's run...

One of the major differences for example is: the knife does more damage the higher fps you have (this doesn't cap at 120). For things/mechanics like that you have to even the playing field to have a common achievable "standard"

I made an in depth guide as to why oob works and how to trigger it. Hopefully it'll help people to get oob more consistently from an understanding point of view instead of RNG seeming.

Is this the rdp library and too low for the push down? You can walk up the library railing to the correct height then walk over to where the floor breaks to trigger oob.

Also, I know about the parking lot terminal https://www.speedrun.com/re2remake/thread/wqvg9 , trying to trigger something past that area for a better skip :)
