Are starting codes allowed to be used for a run? I was under the impression that you couldn't, it isn't specified in the rules. I definitely wouldn't have wasted time doing non-code runs if it's allowed. Thanks for clarification
Is there a reason that the hardest difficulty is required? I'm unfamiliar with this game. Wondering if it was because you were the only runner. Maybe a category of either conquest on any difficulty?
Is there a different ending for doing both on the hardest difficulty? Thanks.
Is there a route written up for this game? Or is are there too many decision points and you actually have to know what's going on? Thanks for any help.
Timing begins when pressing start on Round 1 before any of the blocks have appeared. Precise timing starts when "Press Start" disappears from the Round 1 screen. Frame 0 is the last frame that Press Start is visible. Frame 1 is the first frame after Press Start is no longer visible.
Timing ends the frame that "Round Clear" appears on the final round of the category.
The category rules have been updated. If your run was incorrectly timed, feel free to reply to this or send me a message.
Current rules state: Win a game of one on one against the computer. Can choose any character. Timer starts when selection possession type. Timer stops AFTER victory music.
This is nearly impossible to tell when frame counting. Proposal to change the timing rules to the following:
Start - first frame that the court/basket fully appear after pressing selecting possession type. End - First frame that "your player" won appears after winning the game.
Also, should put milliseconds in this game.
Thanks!
Big 20 was announced yesterday and 50,000 points is the goal. This is a high score category, and is consistent with a lot of shmup NES games similar to Life Force.
I saw that this category was requested, denied, and the thread locked immediately (lol) without welcoming any input from anyone else. I thought that this category would bring some life to a board that has had 5 total submissions in over 18 months.
If anything, it'd probably get people to run the main, full-game categories. Thanks for consideration.
Hello SMRPG enthusiasts:
Welcome to the new leaderboard for Super Mario RPG - Switch version. The current plan is to put a moratorium on accepting and validating speedruns for the leaderboard until at least December 1st, 2023. The reason for this is to allow leadership and community members to explore the game and be able to establish thought out guidelines for the speedrun and its categories.
Please join the SMRPG Discord for discussion regarding the game and the speedrun!
In one of my first runs, I spawned a warp point to planet 7 directly by the ship. I don't know how it happened. My theory is that I carried something through the warp point. See this VOD for how it happened.
(new warp point) (from before the run started)
Hello, I am bad at this game and would like to propose a Lose a Game category. This category exists in several other NES baseball games, and I personally find it to be more interesting. Thoughts?
I changed the category from "any%" to "1 Loop" to make it clearer. Also the term "any%" doesn't make sense for this game.
We are going to sort the leaderboards by "Timing without loads" from this point on. It will be much more work to validate, but I think it's best going forward. To time your run without loads, count the time that the WAIT text is on the screen and subtract that from your final time.
I use VirtualDub to count the frames on my local recordings. I suggest that all runners work to diligently calculate their times. I'll go back over them when submitted, but your help can go a long way. Thanks!
