Correct me if I'm wrong, and definitely not trying to call anyone out or dispute a run, but I believe the 0-Start WR is done on Emu and Keyboard with no input display? I don't see in the rules that an input display is required but I do think that is a good idea. Just looking for some clarity :)

I don't have a problem with it, I just don't know how many people will run it for speed purposes. I feel like the main goal of a maxout is just that, but maybe that's just me.

Just an FYI, as far as I know, Retroarch emulator removes lag (at least newer versions do) so it is going to be inaccurate there as well. Feel free to double check me on that but I'm pretty sure that's the case. We don't allow it for NES games usually because of this feature that cannot be turned off.

I'd reach out to the runner rather than just deleting it. It was verified long ago, and it must have been verified for a reason. As sYn said, if it's not WR then who really cares anyways?

Yeah I kind of like how it is now, from start press to loss of control basically. Certainly the start would be harder to time properly as Danny said with an offset, or even doing it manually. The ending I suppose COULD be changed, but that's just gonna make all the runs longer :D

Oh wait this seems to be for doing runs, not calculating afterwards. Oh well hehe

Massachusetts, USAjustinman1144 years ago

Oh wow! Does this mean my run on 360 might actually have a better time now? :D

Hey, this is just me probably, but the scrolling background on this page really makes my computer work to display it :D It also is kind of distracting when reading, just wondering if we can make it a still image instead.

If not no worries, I know I'm probably in the minority here. I feel like I should have asked this a while ago but I always forget.

Full disclosure, I don't use game audio when I play, as I play while listening to music, and I prefer to keep the audio as just the music. I do livestream all my attempts, and would be glad to play the game live if anyone ever questioned me. This has never been an issue in the past and I hope it continues to not be an issue.

As for aspect ratio, I understand not wanting to see 16:9 stretch, but 4:3 is also technically not the "proper" aspect ratio for NES games. "NES resolution is 256 (*8/7 PAR) x 240. This means that the correct ratio for uncropped video is 1.219:1. (Close to 11:9) Typical emulation defaul crops the top and bottom 8 lines, for a 1.306:1 ratio. (Close to 13:10) In order for 4:3 to be technically correct, you'd need to be showing 219 and 3/7ths of the 240 lines." I don't think this will be an issue as many runners do this across all games, I've never seen anyone questioned about it.

I am definitely not trying to bust chops or anything, I just wanted to put in my 2 cents on a couple issues. I'm not sure a generic rule list can truly work for every game out there. I understand wanting to make things more standardized, and I do agree with many of the items on this list. I think there are also a few that can be amended or not applied to every game. I do understand the reasoning for game audio in many games, to help detect splices. I'm not sure this game is quite the same. It would be really hard to splice a run with the same pieces on the board, same pieces used, etc. Maybe on emulator? I'm not sure. I'm up for discussion, but mainly just wanted to point out a couple things.

I was part of a race last year in which 2 teams of 4 raced the first 4 Zelda games, and both teams finished within 2 seconds of each other. I believe the total race time was somewhere around 5 hours.

I don't have a problem with it, but it's a lot of work for someone to go through and retime all the runs. I'm not sure how many people care if it's down to the millisecond, unless there is a tie at the top. I certainly don't, but I'm not against it either.

Yes but the problem is, this glitch lets you start the game with free points, meaning you don't actually have to gain 300K to finish the run. I think it really just makes it seem kinda lame to be able to use it. It's already an arbitrary number that we are trying to achieve, why use a glitch to gain an advantage on times that are already posted?

And again, this is banned from use in tournaments and such, for what I assume is the same reason.

I'm not sure all the pieces are selected at a single global frame when you start the game, or if they are generated in real-time as you play.

What version of Windows is that :D

Massachusetts, USAjustinman1145 years ago

I'm not a fan of the moving backgrounds either, it makes my computer work harder lol

I noticed this in the NES Tetris LB a while back. To be fair, my computer is bad and I should feel bad, but I agree with Random that it is also distracting.

I'm not a mod here but just my two cents...probably not going to be allowed. Even though it's just aesthetic, it's still technically not the original game, so even if mods know it's legit, not everyone at first glance will understand.

I don't see the reason to be a dick to the guy, he's probably excited. Just read and move on. It happens.

I assume my comment got deleted during the hack today. It was well thought out and detailed and I don't have time right now to write it all again, but tl;dr:

I verified your runs, I do all my due diligence to ensure runs are submitted properly and accurately. I may not have seen every second of your run, but I use timestamps, your timer, comparisons to other known legit runs, etc. to help verify. It is always possible something gets missed but I do my best to ensure that doesn't happen. I'm not sure why your videos don't get the "view" though. I usually play runs from the embedded page here, and more often than not there will be a fast forward/rewind at some point, as well as not letting the video completely get to the end.
