Hi! I think that should be possible. Some changes will need to be made, however: for the title (which is currently focused on the SNES version) it looks like I'll have to put in a request for it to be updated, since I can't do that myself. There's also few other things, but I should be able to edit those more directly.

As soon as there is a run available, I'll look into the things needed to add the board.

Oh, I see what you mean now! Sorry that I missed it. I'm not sure if it's actually possible (never seen anyone try it at least), but I guess it's worth trying out! Perhaps debug mode (using the cheat code) may help to gather some info.

Hey hey! So this glitch is rather precise, so don't feel too bad if you haven't had luck in getting it to work. The frame window for it is really small - I just did a brief TAS check and I was able to get it working for 2 frames.

It's also a bit hard to describe how to exactly get it, but I'll try my best. It involves a series of jumps (one to the tomb and one on it) that can be set up in multiple ways, followed by a tongue grab. What I personally found most effective was roughly this:

  • Instantly go right when dropping into the tomb
  • The moment around when your sprite touches the side of the right coffin, do a jump (I go for a small one here)
  • When you land on the coffin, jump again towards the tongue - you might need to keep heading right for this if you land on the left side
  • Grab the tongue, keep in mind that it should be barely visible!

I added an image I put together quickly, to show what I did in my PB. (A - the moment I jump, B - where I land and do the next jump, C - the moment I grab the tongue, D - what it looks like before I get launched)

I think it's ultimately something you may want to tinker with a bit, as you can slightly vary with the jumps, with the timing and the height - as long as you grab the tongue at the right moment. If you find a way you prefer using, I feel it might also help with consistency.

This is a cool trick that can save roughly 10 seconds, but if you don't feel you can get it consistently enough, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you try and don't get it, you may still end up taking the regular route (grab the left tongue) to get out of the tomb again, so in that case you'd lose some time. But even without it, you can still get really fast times - I didn't get it in a run until after I got my first sub-19.

Hopefully this helps, good luck!

Yeah, it looks like they're linking to Twitch vods that are no longer there, but I saw the runs are still on koffing's YouTube. You'll have to scroll down a bit, as they're a couple of years old by now.

I'd like to request a moderator role for Samurai Shodown. There's two runs of mine for the SNES version that haven't been verified yet, the oldest of which I submitted a month ago. Neither of the current mods seem to have logged onto the site as of late: one for 2 months, the other for 3 years. There's barely any way to reach them otherwise, neither Twitch or YouTube channel seems to have been used recently. I tried contacting the supermod through YouTube, seeing the more recent activity, but no response.

Thanks!

If you would like to see another mod added for this game, I'd be willing to help out as well!

Yes, Kega Fusion is allowed as emulator. Be sure to use the latest version, which is 3.64. Specifying in the submission comment which emulator you used would also very much be appreciated!

Yeah, fine by me! With a run of this length it makes sense to add ms.

Having run this game recently (I'm playing on an EverDrive N8), I frequently experienced the game crashing on me. In all kinds of ways too, to say the least, haha!

As I found out today (with help from skateman222), apparently it had to do with firmware issues (possibly certain mappers). It turned out that as soon as I downgraded (to v1.16 in my case), it solved the problem. So I'm not sure if this was already known before, but for those running the game who have had similar issues, this might help.

Really good to read these responses! Thanks to both for your input, and also to Behemoth for the additional info. I'm definitely compelled to get back to this and eliminate the safeties I currently take - hopefully I can find a moment soon-ish. I'll make sure to add ms to both your times when I get back home.

Update: as of just now it's no longer a tied WR, so for the time being this question is less urgent. Still, let me know what you think!

This game has seen a bit more activity recently, with someone else getting a sub-16 time! Seeing that the current top times are really close to each other, and seem to closely approach what's possible right now, it brings up the following option: adding ms to the time.

There's one run I haven't verified yet, but that would make for a shared first place if I don't include it. If I do so, the standings would remain unchanged.

I'd like to hear from others before deciding. Do you have a preference for ms or no ms? Thanks in advance!

Having given it some thought, yeah, option 2 seems like it would work. It's kind of like when you first see a confirmation of sorts that you achieved the goal. With my current run, I didn't really have it in mind, but it might've been closer to option 1 then.

Hi! I'd like to request a supermod role for First Samurai. The current mod hasn't been online on SRC for 6 months, and for the past 3 weeks I tried to seek contact through various other ways (Twitch, Twitter, Discord) without success. I have submitted a run that's pending verification. Thanks!

Hey BlackDitch! Yes, runs on emulator are totally fine - in fact, the other run currently on the board is done on one. Emulators I can usually recommend in terms of accuracy are BizHawk or RetroArch (the former is what I use myself for various other systems).

Glad to see you're interested in running this game, have fun with learning! If you have further questions, feel free to ask. :)

Hi there! I'd like to request a "Tomb Raider" series tag for the game "Tomb Raider (NES Bootleg)". The game was recently added to SRC. Link: https://www.speedrun.com/tombraider_nes

In addition, I was wondering if the game "LEGO Batman (Genesis Bootleg)" (https://www.speedrun.com/legobatman_gen) could receive a couple of series tags as well. These are: LEGO - https://www.speedrun.com/lego Batman - https://www.speedrun.com/batman DC Comics - https://www.speedrun.com/dc

I'm the moderator for both games.

Thanks!

I decided to split the board into two separate sub-categories: for runs on emulator and those done on an actual Lynx. This is something I've been sitting on for a while, and after watching various runs, I found the performance between both to be too inconsistent for them to share the same category.

Just so you're aware of that option now being available when you submit. ;)

(If anyone else wants to chip in on this, let me know!)

Okay, so important update here: @FinnKaenbyou discovered that you don't need to grab the coconut in order to pull off the warp! You can destroy it and perform the same inputs while being in the position where you'd normally stand. Keep in mind that you still have to press and hold down Y throughout the process, the same action you do when getting the coconut.

This definitely makes the warp a lot more consistent.

UPDATE 12/18: And on top of that, if you happen to destroy the rock in the fantasy zone, you can still warp! Just hold down Y when you're standing in the required position!

In the game it's possible to warp from level 5-2 to 6-1 by doing a series of inputs that takes you to a fantasy zone. Up until now it hasn't been used in runs before, but since the info for it can be derived from hints in the manual, I decided to allow it from now on.

For those unfamiliar with how it works: in order to activate the warp you have to grab the last coconut on the ground just before the exit gem. While holding it, press Up, Down, L, Down, L, R, and R. In the fantasy zone, grab the rock. Make sure you don't destroy it!

Keep in mind you only have one chance to try it - in the case of a mistake you either take a death or continue on to 5-3 etc.

Yeah, I recently resubmitted my PB because it didn't show up for me as pending action anymore, but that was bug related apparently. So if it's still there, that's fine at least.
