I was watching the Questing for Glory 2 video on the Limit Break channel and noticed Smelly had written down most combinations of the tetris puzzle. Since each square corresponds to at most 1 switch, would it be faster to look at 6 squares to figure out which switches you have to press? You could look at the corners and then the left column for example.
