Hello, Speedrunners

Blue Isle Studio is holding a 5 year anniversary for Valley, therefore they are handing out steam keys for the community to stream on the 24th of August.

Valley is a First Person exploration game with amazing movement techniques. Learning the hardest strats can take a long time, but getting through the game with most strats is not too bad. The game is very short casually, so even if you don’t want to claim a key and participate on the 24th. We would still recommend picking up the game on sale and trying it out.

We reached out to them to see if we could get some keys for some sort of Valley speedrunning community event. We have gotten 7 keys so far, might get more if we have enough interest to sign up.

The plan is to give out the keys on Monday 23.08 to everyone who signs up (who does not have the game already). On the 24th everyone will have the whole day to learn and complete speedruns of the game. We want to see who can get the fastest time possible after learning the game from scratch.

We recommend that you play through the game normally first on Monday to get a feel for the game and its levels. It’s a short casual experience, only 2-4 hours.

Me and TRS (TheRedSock) have put 100$ in the pot for first(60%) second(30%) and third place(10%). Anyone can also donate to this pot if they wish. Only people who do not have a leaderboard time are eligible for prizes. But we still encourage old members to participate and help the new guys out.

By accepting a key for this event you agree to stream the game for some amount of time on the 24th for the 5 year anniversary event.

If you are a community figure and want to share this event message on any number of platforms, feel free. For signups and more information, please join the discord linked below.

So you can actually die and fail "finishing" the game after placing the third artifact while getting shot by the final boss. Doing this will not get you to the credits and will just restart the bossfight. Under the current ruleset this is totally fine as all you have to do is place the third artifact. Just wanted to ask this question before starting to run the game.

Tomatoanus has made a new indepth updated tutorial for the game, if you are interested in speedrunning the game, watching this is a good way to get going. The link below takes you to the Guide post.

Usually we have been using a private discord to share strats, but seeing as there are more and more people joining the game. Having a thread to publish new strats might be helpful.

Basically just a place i can put all the old tilt videos. Alot of these are proof of concept and really old / bad. Just showes potential and whatnot. Feel free to add your own.

This game has been out for a year and unlike the other Bethesda games that came before it, we have been playing through the intro, an intro with little to no tech or skill required to do faster than anyone else.

Much like Skyrim, there are arguments to be made about you doing inputs to create your character and such, still the time investment to watch the intro cutscene is not required to do a any% run of the game.

Fallout 4 admittedly is abit more expansive in this aspect, but the idea still counts. This is something we should have done a year ago (when it wouldn't have been such a pain to implement).

As a community we did a poll a few months back, wherein we overwhelmingly decided that it is ok to start your runs when you get full player control. This being after the freezer cutscene. (This poll was conducted on the Fallout Discord server which is linked in the "Resources" tab on speedrun.com)

Now comes the problem about how to time this into runs. One solution would be to remove the intro from everyones times on the leaderboard, i don't have a problem watching everyones runs and doing so by hand.

There are other solutions that would be more messy. Like starting from a set time, adding time after completed runs.

Like i said, the poll was conducted more than two months ago and has been available to vote on for that length of time. So as a community we have officially agreed that this is ok. I have therefore added a standardized autosave for the start of the run, you can find this in the "resources" tab. You may make your own autosave to start the run from, how to do so is explained there.

I simply want input now on how to fix everyones times.

Estimated time save : About one minute

Do V111 like normal and set up a coverslide

Run to the bushes of Sanctuary to make sure you discover Sanctuary

Continue East until you get to Robotics Disposal Ground, pick up Fat Man, Mini Nuke, Circuit Board and Fusion Core. Run towards USAF Satalite Olivia, Coverslide to Greentech when you discover it.

Kill raiders at Greentech for guns, sewer is normal (When you leave the sewer, you can make a save to do all your fast travels from now on, even the ones where you actually have to get to Virgils(thank bubs)).

Don't steal the Fatman + mini nuke in Goodneighbour, instead FT to Mass Fusion after shopping is complete.

DC is normal

Get the mini nuke at the top of the Coast Guard Pier Roof with a cone climb, you get the cone when you leave DC. ( you can still get the one in Goodneighbour if you feel unsafe about this strat )

Set up a coverslide at Crater of Atom, run to Virgil, Hardsave and FT to Greentech, get PA, FT to RDG and coverslide to MoF.

Leave your armour outside MoF, don't get the fusion core, PA or minigun at MoF.

Kill raiders, Kill deathclaw with mini nuke.

Get in your armour after talking to Preston and completing the quest, FT to Crater set up coverslide, Coverslide to Kelloggs.

The run is the same from here, except you FT to USAF Olivia when you kill the settlers at Tennpines.

Problems we need to solve: Get enough XP for Solar Powered before shopping is over, would save 10 seconds.

Far Harbor is supposed to come out sometime in May.

With that, are we going to run this as a Standalone adventure? Are we going to do it as a part of Any% + DLC? Mabye we should already make the Leaderboard for it?

Or am i just the only person hyped to find strats for it?

(Im sure running it will be terrible)

So apparently you can Fast-travel with a coverslide active, in this video im using it with an alernate route to get to Fort Hagen in a very short time.

We need to find more places this can be used. We need a new route. We need another fusion core. We need more jet. -sanic
