If you have any trouble/queries in the game you can ask in the forum about them if they're too complicated for you to handle, but all in all it's totally up to you how to deal with them.

Some splits do show both real time (IGT) and game time (LRT), but some show only the latter, and people usually tend to use them in order to figure out the game time that excludes the time the game takes in loading, since on speedrun com it's a necessity to know the LRT clearly so as your runs to enter in the leaderboards, if you're playing on the steam version. (On console versions all the runs are ranked by the IGT that is shown at the end of the runs in making your final (and first) save in the typewriter. You can see it from your save datas in the typewriter, so it's not mandatory to use splits to be aware of your LRT instead of your IGT, to which you can have access to know only by the use of splits)

I'm not entirely sure on which version of Game cube you're playing the game, but given that you always accidentally start your run by hitting the start on the main menu I suppose it's on NTSC Gamecube, since on that version you can play the game only on Normal difficulty in your first playthrough and it doesn't give you the chance to choose one of the difficulties to play the game at all on the main menu. (On other editions of Gamecube you can select either normal or easy difficulty on your first playthrough, after you beat the game on one of these two difficulties the game unlocks the hardest difficulty and lets you have access to it.) You have only ONE available difficulty you can play when you're new to the game, so that's why it feels the game automatically starts immediately on hitting start in the main menu.

As to the timer, just as Sawken said above the timer on your gaming screen is basically only supposed to serve as a reminder for you to check out the time saves and time losses at each section of the game more easily, and many of the players prefer using it since it lets them see the timesaves/losses directly while they're still playing the game before they finish it, so that they can easily and quickly figure out if the run went good/bad without the need to bother to finish the entire run once. On steam runs it's basically necessary to use the timer and display it on your screen if you want to post your own time on this website, but when it comes to the runs on gaming consoles(including Gamecube version you've been playing on) it's not a must to use it, as on console versions the runs are timed by IGT which is the time that shows up in saving the game at the end of your run (actual time you take to play through the game on your console), and the leaderboards on every category are based on that time, so it's okay for you to submit runs here and for the moderators to add them to the leaderboards, only if you know that IGT time on your saving screen at the end and the moderators can see the runs you did are legit without any trickery whatsoever (full recorded runs without emulator, etc).

I see Sawken already answered your query justly, but hopefully this reply would help you understand the things better, and good luck on your runs if you're going to play the game for your record and submitting your runs on here in the future. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Eifel There can be some minor differences if you decide to play on a different console, but when it comes to submitting, I think you can hit in the panel "XSX" tab for doing so, thus that would be no problem. ;)

There's no grenade launcher in the game, did you possibly mean rocket launcher or mine thrower? (Or the run with only grenades?)

For sure both systems are counted as in the same category in RE4 in both the submission system and in the leaderboards so far, and that's probably because the game doesn't make as much difference as between other consoles with similar titles in the same console series (or there's a case that one version is a "sub" version of the other with only some minor differences which wouldn't affect the criteria to categorize the records, in comparison to differences between more "full-fledged" versions where the differences tend to be bigger and more notable), but it can also be due to the game being newly launched for that console and still lacking concrete infos as to the differences on that version for that console between the games for other consoles, so if that's why these two systems are put in the same category, in a certain while the leaderboard system can make some changes in how they show the records/ranks and in the submission panel.

Yes you do, you can select it from the category when you post a run here.

Yeah, that way anyone interested in the game can claim they had a great result in the game if not a WR in a particular category, by copying someone else's result screen and pasting it on the website, but it might make the moderators wonder if that person always had a great achievement and always got ranked within top 10~20, or when there are too many of the new comers whose credibility in submitting records the moderators aren't aware of, who had a result pretty close to WR record in a certain category. So I guess asking the players to show their video footage to make sure it's "their" record they did themselves is going to be a better idea than asking them to post only the images(or short clipped video) of the result screen, which doesn't really give the moderators a clear idea if the players really pulled off that achievement or not. ;)

As an "entertainment" I've been playing RE Revelations 1 a lot recently - I intended to play that on a regular basis just for watching for the progress of the records I've been making on resident evil net at the very beginning, but personally I simply found it fun to monkey around with the enemies on raid mode for some reason, so I've been playing the game just for real fun, or only for picking up a tiny bit of fun from that in my life. :D

The one I've been using atm comes from the photo of one of the Japanese actresses and a member of idol groups, and I've been using it for quite a long time :D

I guess it's a good change to make, if it makes it much fairer for the players on PC consoles to submit times and compete without different loading times taken into account - in order to keep those playing on that PC with faster loading time from being always ranked up high in the leaderboards thanks to that whereas those with one with slower loading time always falling behind them.

Welcome to the forum :) as Lumous said above those players having played the game you're being into a lot would be able to help you out, no matter what video game you're playing. And there are plenty of people accomplished in speedrunning the games over here, so you can always keep learning from them if you have any doubts / questions about certain in-game tricks.

Chiba, Japanderinse7726 years ago

Well that's a great achievement for a man who have tried speedrunning a game for the first time :o

welcome to the forum, and I hope you take pleasure in doing speedruns in other games too. :)

Chiba, Japanderinse7726 years ago

Unless you do a speedrun in the game modes which don't show the clear time you took to beat, you can basically check that out at the end of the game by the result screen, so you basically have no problems with that. Plus if you have your own timer by other gadgets you can use them instead as well if you can accurately measure the time with them. :)

Hope you have fun / good luck with speedrunning. :)

Like the others already said above, the faster the loading time is, the more sense it makes to use the ditman glitch since it requires you to open/close the inventory as much as you can. If you want to play the game and eventually endeavor to speedrun the game on a console with faster loading time, then it's gonna be worth a try for you, but if you're planning to play the game in earnest on a console with pretty much sluggish loading time, then it won't make much sense to stick to using the said glitch in every map, unless you're in an exceptionally vast map like where you encounter the Salvador for the first time in chapter 1-1.

Zero I talked with one of the guys on here on youtube about using the ditman glitch on PS2 the other day, and he said for the slow loading time on the PS2 it really didn't come in handy to use the glitch. if it takes only 10~12(or less than that) seconds to go to the other map, I guess it's faster to go without the glitch for the lags that the console is prone to have. :(
