Minnesota, USAMacgyver and have began work on 2P. Holy buckets, this is going to be quite a challenge! It's going to be fun learning the game all over again from a different perspective. So, I've been speed running this game for years... is anyone else interested in doing new categories? I have a few ideas:

An Item% where you have to get all of the 4 Items of Sindarin (and maybe a helmet and a shield).

100% - not sure what this would look like, was thinking maybe you need to open every chest in the game that has a tangible item in it (you don't have to open all of the money chests or items that can be purchased at in the store)

Help me if anyone feels differently, but for most games that are very close ports, like this one, their speed running communities will accept all releases of the game to be the same game - so, if we know there is potential to beat the PAL version faster than the NTSC version, you could take advantage of this by playing the PAL version, although most people won't be able to do this since most of us don't have the capability to play a PAL cart on original hardware. This is not true for all games, as these decisions are made by individual speed running communities.
Speaking of Co-op runs, Macgyver_987 and I live very close to one another, there is a chance we will take up co-op category some day soon!
I've been playing it for the last couple of weeks, cannot get enough of it. Very close to sub 8:00, which isn't great, but it's a start. Would like to get under 6:00, which is totally doable.
FYI - I'm sure most are well aware, but for those who are not - all submissions that do not have videos were verified upon their arrival by TheMexicanRunner in an old SDA forum thread.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've taken down the previous 100% category and will start re-routing soon. It's very nice to see so many people interested in Metroid.
@Dragondarch: Can you explain how to do the up, down maru mari ball jump through the floor/ceiling and then through the door (in Norfair)? I've played around with it for hours, but can't figure out what I'm supposed to do. It's the only strat I've left to figure out to seriously run 100%.
Thanks Lighnat0r! So, I have a few questions for everyone. I've always done 100% with skipping the two extraneous energy tanks (since you max out at six, you cannot "obtain" two of the energy tanks), however, Dragondarch runs 100% by getting all of the energy tanks. Also, his run is deathless, but you can save a lot of time with strategic death-warping. My question is - is it okay if we make separate categories for deathless/death-warp, and all energy tanks/6 energy tanks, and what is a good way to abbreviate all this. I have also been planning to get weird with Metroid and begin a few silly%'s, like Kraid%, Fake Kraid%, and Ridley%, where you stop your timer as soon as you defeat the claimed boss.
What are your feeelings? PST.
