news.bbc.co.uk is relatively speaking an unbiased news source. Bias does still creep in but nowhere near as bad as most "news" sites.
Streets Of Rage 4, although I'm trying to get more into platforming this year.
Also, please make sure you put the same names in the 1P and 2P box each and every time. Otherwise it leads to messed up leaderboards with the same pairing in it twice due to switching the names around (either accidentally or nefariously).
- This is the introductions forum. It is for introducing yourself, not for general discussion.
- What the heck is a troll speedrun? Anything with "troll" in the name automatically sounds bad.
Yeah.... this is something you really need to talk to the specific mods about, if that fails raise a complaint with the site mods. Nothing we can advise you about here I am afraid.
Out of curiousity, did you ever ask the reason why it was rejected then?
@SuperAL1 we need forum mods, someone to actually take an active role in modernising this place.
As it stands, only the highest tier of content moderator has forum mod privileges, which is nonsensical. Surely forum moderation should be the lowest tier of privilege? It is basically janitorial duties, with the exception of if they allowed someone to actually update the forums properly.
Agree so hard with @Timmiluvs
Just some responses to this thread would be such a big improvement to morale. Also, we are on page 100 - surely it's time for a new thread? (Just one of the many, many gripes we have with the forums in general).
Ancient earth? Is that like from the Doom speedrunning days?
So to sum up:
"Splicing" is the terminology for a form of cheating.
"Segmented runs" is the terminology for legit competition.

Hahaha this reminds me of the glory days of forums, when people would genuinely post topics like this. Talking 99/00/01 era.
Oreo you are a hero you made the 11 Page of this Thread!!!
Hey Jack!
Honestly, even if you don't have your recording etc setup, there's nothing stopping you from starting to speedrun today :) practice offline, or even set up a phone to record your TV while you play. No time like the present - speedrunning is all about having fun, more than having a "proper" setup!
Enjoy
Noticed yer from Fife pal, welcome. Always good to see more Scots around.
@TheImperialZone you would need to check with the moderation/verification team of whatever game you are submitting. I'm not sure how streaming to YouTube works as I've never done it before, they may have an issue with you submitting a 5 hour stream for a 15 minute run for example, but if you can timestamp it I don't generally see why it would be a problem.
Streets Of Rage 4 has individual level leaderboards now.
17 characters; 5 difficulties; 12 levels; literally hundreds of different ways to compete, if you are interested in that type of game. Levels are typically 2 to 12 minutes long, averaging about 5 minutes.
The next step up would be the "Boss Rush" mode which would take around 7 to 17 minutes at a rough estimate. The game is also like £10-£12 for the PC version.
This is really a question for the specific game's community.
Personally I think it is incredibly unhealthy and shouldn't be encouraged. Communities should (in my opinion) factor in short breaks, with a short pause in the timer, for health reasons. We are here to push the limits, absolutely, but nowadays we should be aware of the detrimental effects of sitting playing a game non-stop for multiple hours.
But it is for the specific game's community to decide. At the end of the day though, you shouldn't feel forced to NOT take breaks on a personal level. Who cares what a "world record" on this website says? If you can beat the game in X amount of times, while taking breaks and looking after yourself, and your time is faster than someone else's but it won't be accepted to the leaderboards here - well, I say that is healthier than forcing yourself not to take a break just because of someone else's rule.
Hello,
Not typically, however you should always read the specific rules for whatever game you are going to run - some require a face cam, some require splits, some require your controller to be in view, etc etc.
On the whole, streaming via PS4 is usually fine even without a face cam / splits however some games have specific rules so be sure to check first.
I am assuming you will be doing the same as I did - streaming straight to Twitch via your PS4 then just highlighting the Twitch VOD? If so, make sure you remember to actually HIGHLIGHT the VOD or it will be automatically deleted after 14 days. Alternatively, you could download it, edit it, and re-upload to somewhere like Youtube.
Hope this has helped :) good luck, have fun!
