I basically want to see some more awesome speedruns but have ran my YouTube watchlist dry!

Anything goes: races, world records, Bingo, anything as long as it's great

Scotlandckellyspeedruns4 years ago

Interesting, he spawned super far to the left there

Scotlandckellyspeedruns4 years ago

Is this what you mean on Stage 1? Causing the two sewer Donovans to not spawn at all. Or something else?

Scotlandckellyspeedruns4 years ago

My friend @deadofthesean also recommended me this video when I mentioned this today. In it, it describes the level as being the background moving around the area as opposed to the area itself.

I don't think this video particularly explains this trick, not sure if it will help us discover more exploits, but it was an interesting watch nonetheless so I'll add into this discussion.

Hi all

I noticed that if you goad the Barneys etc to the left of the screen, then get to the right of the screen as the "Up" appears for the traffic lights, if the Barneys etc get hit by it off-screen, regardless of health they seem to die.

This can be really useful for getting into the Estel fight early. If you time it right, you can even get rid of the first group (Barney + 2 Dicks on Easy) in the first cycle then the second Barney on the next cycle and really cut out time fighting them.

Hopefully I have explained it well, you can see what I mean at 28:30 onwards on this run.

You can see I first throw the items away to the end of the screen (gets them into Estel fight btw), then I move forward, I throw two Dicks away, they had so little health left that the traffic light hit kills them anyway, but notice the first Barney has not been touched. The light instant kills him because it hits him off screen.

I then kill Dick, throw Barney to the left and walk away. iirc, the damage from a throw plus a traffic hit shouldn't be enough to kill Barney, but as he is off-screen, the traffic light pushes him to instant death and I am ready for Estel (with two tasers and a pipe).

I have not seen this piece of information discussed anywhere at all, so I'm not sure if anyone else is aware of this. I also haven't practised it on Mania so please let me know if it works or does not.

Hi all! I know a lot of newcomers to Studio Ghibli will be watching some of the movies for the first time on Netflix and HBO so I have started doing spoiler free movie reviews on Youtube for them. I will hopefully review all 23 films over the next two weeks, hopefully this is something you might enjoy?

Please feel free to talk about your favourite Studio Ghibli movies here but try to keep it spoiler free for new fans to try to decide which movies to watch first thanks

Hello

My segments for the SOR1 Blaze leaderboard thanks :)

NOTE: I will be uploading a 56:26 tonight which improves two stages further over this video -- Stage 1: 4:32 vs 4:35 and Stage 5: 4:27 vs 4:54

Scotlandckellyspeedruns4 years ago

To start us off, here is my segmented SOR1 Blaze in 53:11 (Easy difficulty).

Dissection:

Stage 2 I have played hundreds of times to get that time, and I actually made two "mistakes" that may have accidentally saved time (I normally try and keep 3 charges on the taser vs Murphy, and I dropped the stun jab on Commissioner twice, yet finished nine seconds faster than my previous PB, which I already thought was the absolute ceiling of the level). So I'm quite confused as to whether there is actually time to be saved there, or if my theories on the taser and the stun jab are just plain wrong.

Stage 3 I waste about a second trying to hit Dylan offscreen when I haven't actually moved far enough right to load in him and Galsia. This type of nonsense happens throughout the run.

Stage 4 I feel I could have saved a few seconds if Estel (boo hiss) didn't troll me so hard for that final jab.

I know for a fact that Golden Axe has a 2:40 on Stage 7 so there are at least a further two seconds to be saved there. Again, my hatred of Estel is never-ending.

GA also has a 4:12 on Stage 10 vs my 4:31 (19 further seconds to be saved) but I am admittedly awful vs Max as Blaze1.

I also know for a fact that Stage 11 can be done at least one second quicker, as I have an offline speed of 4:59.

Finally, Golden Axe again has me beat on Stage 12, with 6:49 vs my 6:58. With cleaner stars I could maybe reach that, but that's another 9 seconds left on the table.

So adding all that up saves us a guaranteed 31 documented seconds, and I feel with better execution overall [there are a few sloppy sections of almost every Stage here] I could maybe save a further ten or twenty seconds, but the question I now have is, could a sub 52 run be technically possible with SOR1 Blaze?

I have exhausted my own faculties and abilities, so I am hoping someone in the community can look over this video and Axe's WR run to maybe point out some potential time saves that I've overlooked?

Hi all,

I know cestpatou is maintaining the individual levels leaderboard.

I felt like there may be a place for people who want to put together full segmented speedruns, so... here is a space where you can share yours and we can discuss areas for further optomisation, competition etc.

Hi all,

So I've been thinking about making a weighted leaderboard to try and encourage people to run more categories.

The SOR1 Blaze categories are finally getting some love, but there are like 85 main categories.

So my thought was a weighted leaderboard, where the top five runs on each category get a certain amount of points, giving you a total "high score". I'd be doing this for fun, much like cestpatou's IL leaderboard, and isn't to be taken super seriously. Just something I want to do off my own back.

Where I'm looking for input though is the weights of the scores.

So far I have thought:

Easy = 1x, Normal = 2x, Hard = 3x, Hardest = 6x, Mania = 7x 5th place = 1x, 4th = 2x, 3rd = 3x, 2nd = 6x, 1st = 7x

And then a tier list of characters is needed in terms of difficulty.

S = 1x, A = 2x, B = 3x, C = 4x, D = 5x

It's the character ranking I really need input on.

Shiva is obviously an S rank, SOR1 Adam is obviously a D rank, but what about the others? Is five rankings enough? Is SOR1 Adam 5x harder than Shiva or more or less?

As you can see, it is just in the draft stage right now and open to discussion. But using this first draft for instance:

BillDupond's 1st place SOR1 Adam Hard would be worth 105 points 3lo's 1st place Shiva Mania would be worth 49 points IDemiiK's 1st place SOR1 Adam Easy would be worth 35 points and so on

I don't instinctively think a SOR1 Adam Hard is necessarily twice as worthy as a Shiva Mania, despite Adam being much harder to play with, so I'm also thinking of adding a multiplier bonus for runs that are under an hour, maybe x1.5.

If more people ran SOR1 Adam Hard then it would get under an hour, but as it is BillDupond has an easy 105 points by virtue of being the only run on the board, which I guess is kind of what I want to get out of this project - more people running more categories.

It's all really first draft stuff at the moment, but it's an idea I want to develop regardless if anyone else is even interested, so happy to hear some feedback and especially character tier lists.

Thanks BadMoon, I think you're right on the money there. I had thought it was overloading the barrel but I think your theory about the barrel in that state being interpreted as a new barrel makes a LOT more sense mate.

Fantastic work, great post.

So it looks as though it is either going to be multiple inputs (wish we could see what buttons each player was holding) or my original theory that using a special on the barrel right as it explodes has overloaded its HP and caused two stars to spawn, rather than some kind of pick-up glitch.

If it was to do with the item itself rather than the actual barrel I just feel as though we would have seen this happen in multiple places by now.

Can both of you confirm - what difficulty, and was it Arcade both times or Story / Stage Select?

Wow I expected Adam/Cherry/Shiva but I wasn't expecting to hear a Floyd run managed to lock it

Scotlandckellyspeedruns5 years ago

I know where you mean Truncated, the BTs/Galsias can get stuck in Stage 5 pretty easy.

There's also a section of Stage 8 (Art Gallery) near the end when there are two chairs, if you don't destroy the bottom one then the BT gets stuck there almost all of the time.

Scotlandckellyspeedruns5 years ago

Hi all,

Managed to capture me softlocking the game with Adam. Have done this before with Cherry too.

Tried with Shiva as I figured the dash was a part of it but didn't seem to work.

Anybody else experienced this? Anyone with more knowledge than me lol

Something weird happened during a SOR1 Blaze game I was playing, Normal Arcade

Used my star just as I landed on fire, it took the star, played the audio, but did nothing gameplay wise

Strange huh?

My theories so far:

  • You forward special the barrel as it is about to explode - maybe overloading the barrel's HP caused the duplication (my main theory)

  • You have a combo which is confirming as you pick up the star (my second main theory)

  • You forward special over the star, but I doubt that means anything

  • The way you pick up the cash then immediately turn left to pick up the star might have something to do with it?

That's what I'd be trying to replicate

Very interesting. I like how you have it syncing up every so often, not a huge fan of the overlapping commentary but I don't really know what else you could do. Maybe have one person commentating each stage, 3 each?

Already it's cool to note that Shiva has the slowest Stage 1 boss but obviously more than makes up for that across the run.

Scotlandckellyspeedruns5 years ago

Yeah Yoshi I ended up streaming it but the chat wanted to read the story so it took a while to get to Act 7 haha

But I can feel my speed coming along in the first 3 acts already :) just need to really practice Fusion mode I think
