Verifier's note: Please include a timer on screen next time so it's easier to see run time without having to do math
Console players can still submit runs to the leaderboards. It's not required that you play on pc for that.
We already know about this glitch and use it in the 100% run. We've played around with this out of bounds for a while, but can't seem to find anywhere useful you can get to other than valves, and even that is only useful in 100%. Feel free to see if you can find anything else with it though.
We had a category for that for a while but no runs were submitted so we deleted it. We can re-add it if a run is done of it, but at that point you might as well just run any% since it's the same run but theater is faster.
It is just as simple as it looks. First door you jump over to the gate blocking the door and jump right over it. The second one you land on the gate again, stand back so you aren't touching the door itself and jump while crouching to get through.
1.) To turn 2 levers in the theater at once, you need to be running on an older patch of the game as this was fixed in one of the newer versions, including current patch. The download for the patch we do runs on is in the resources tab.
Once you have that patch downloaded, you use the wasd keys to highlight one of the arrows while you hover your mouse over another one then mash both your interact key and mouse 1.
2.) I don't believe there is a console, no.
Also yes, we did know you can see the last area from that window. There's not much out there, so they probably didn't expect anyone to actually climb up there and look out of them.
It could very well be possible for glitchless current patch. The current time for that loses a bunch of time to to not having run it in a while and being rusty. I don't know what my sum of bests is for that category, but they're definitely slower than my actual fastest times for most puzzles.
Overall, yes, it could be possible if we bothered to run that category enough to do it.
We used to have a category for this, but removed it because no one ran it. If you would like, we can add it back if you can submit a run following the the timing guidelines in any%.
I'll likely split it up into patch and no patch however because the only real difference between those two is having the patch saves about a minute and a half in theater.
If you do a run and can post a video of it ready to submit, message me on discord chasebeleren#0170 and I'll get that remade. I just don't want to make a category and have you back out of doing it and have it left empty.
I'd say that all red berries is fine for that catagory personally. "All strawberries" could be confusing as it would imply that the golds are collected too as they are also strawberries, just recolored
If you would like to use the glitch, you can download the patch in the resources page and copy that over the files in the we were here folder. You have to make sure both players are on that patch though.
I mean, even if they are ruing the speedrun of their games, there are a lot of games out there that are ran on older patches as well. In the end, they are just making it so their games are among those.
I posted this link in the forums of the We Were Here leaderboards as well. We have a Discord up for speedrunners and casual players to come together and discuss both We Were Here and We Were Here Too. Whether you would like to see what all the other runners are up to or just check it, here's the link: https://discord.gg/3hJsF86
If we can, this makes looking at a 3:45, and maybe even 3:40 possible. Especially considering with current strats we have it down to 3:52 now.
We discuss a lot of strategies to speed things up and save time there. We already have the top 3 explorer players and two of the best librarians on there in the server as is. Even if you just like the game and wanna see a little more about it, feel free to join us.
I have made a discord for We Were Here runners to discuss strats and post their best runs to if anyone is interested in joining. This will also make it easy to tell if someone has beaten your run, even if bwunt hasn't gotten around to verifying it yet. Here's the link if anyone is interested https://discord.gg/3hJsF86
Thanks man, I know both you and Jeph can get your sub 4 runs here soon. I'm willing to bet it will be before the week is through honestly.
I think it would probably be best to swap to timing there instead since that is the frame you lose control of the character. It would be more consistently timed as well if it was on a fully black screen rather than some time when it starts fading.
Also, just to be clear, this was not to call anyone out at all, I simply thought the game was getting to the point that we should make it consistent how we time since the runs are getting pretty close to the fastest they will probably be without a new strat.
I think now that a few of us are getting to the point of needing to save fractions of seconds on each other, we should establish a uniform method of timing. For my runs, when I would go back and retime them for frame accuracy, the way I have been doing it was starting the frame the character loads in and ending it the frame the screen goes fully black at the end of the run, after it does the weird blink thing.
Not saying the leaderboards should change or anything based on what I have been doing, but I simply think it would be a good idea to set standards for timing for future runs.
So, I was grinding out some runs last night with a friend of mine trying to get the sub 4:00 time I have been wanting (Which is absolutely possible, here are my sum of bests ), but I guess the recording stopped in the middle of a good run. I wound up getting a 4:02, but because it wasn't recording, I can't post that and have it officially recognized as a run. I at least have a screenshot of my splits during the run, but I know that's not enough for it to be official. Here are those anyway
Moral of the story, if you are grinding runs, make sure to double check the recording is alright so you don't lose a WR because of it.
My pal and I were testing this for a solid 3 hours earlier and found nothing useful. Unfortunately, I think Jeph may be correct in that it's probably not doable. If someone proves us wrong, good, let us know how you did it.
