Diablo 2 full screen can be very odd and messes with other windows, especially because D2 is a small resolutionn and Windows is forced to change to that resolution when it goes full screen. You can play D2 in windowed mode but have it maximized by right clicking the shortcut you use to launch the game, under "target" you'll see the filepath of the game, and at the very end tack on -w after a space so it looks like this: "C:/......diablo2.exe" -w You can then double-click the top bar of the game's window to maximize it to the largest size it can be on your screen. Or you can play in the tiny window. This is how a lot of runners play You get the benefit of being able to alt-tab out without screen flashing and whatnot, you can put a chat beside your game window, can see your timer and use it/display it properly, etc etc
most recent development with regards to sorc (and potentially other classes too - I definitely utilized it in my recent Barbarian record run) is leveling in act 2 Far Oasis with beetle bosses to at least 18 to take advantage of Teleport earlier. Definitely requires RNG to be in your favor (decent waypoint in Far Oasis close to Beetleburst and ideally more boss groups present, Especially Champion beetle packs)
Run submissions need to be cut down to a bare minimum of jsut moments before the run start and just moments after, to be consistent with every other run submission and for viewers to avoid having to click to find the start.
Also, if you are not partnered, your regular stream vods actually get deleted after a month. Highlights do not get deleted
Just use the highlight feature on Twitch to shrink the run down to the required length and resubmit the run. It takes less than a minute to do
the run has to be in 1 go, recorded in one shot - you can't play different parts of the game at different times and piece together the video later. This is what it means by RTA, or Real Time Attack run
it's a feature(?) of the game that once you type any players setting, it will keep the players setting until the game is closed. Save/quitting and making a new character will even be on the last /players setting set. As long as the game client is never closed, you dont have to keep typing /players 8 every time you save/quit.
You should however type it at the start of a run to show that it is indeed a /players 8 run
that would only make sense for anyone who's completed a run across all classes anyways
Not really interested - it's too fast, too hacked, too easy. Pop open your first chest and get 25k item, buy 20 mana potions and maybe a few health, skill only static, light mast orb and cold mast, go in for the kill. Could easily be a minute or less. I think act5% is about as "hacked" of a short run I'd be willing to do, tbh
For those that use Diablo Interface, there is now an option to display the /players value in the widget in this small update
https://github.com/Zutatensuppe/DiabloInterface/releases/tag/v0.4.3
I do agree that it should be included in the rules that the character needs to be created in expansion mode, just for clarification. The name of the game in regards to this leaderboard IS d2lod, Dialblo 2: Lord of Destruction, which is the expansion and it should be understood that this is only for the expansion.
However, I say if you have an idea about a new category, by all means, play test it out, show us what could be better or worse, why it can be fun or challenging or even improving upon the current categories. If people didn't start running what they want to run, so many games wouldn't have the speedrun categories they have now. Pacifist wasn't a category until proofs of concepts and lots of discussion were made. Concept was 7 hours long, now the record is 2.5 hours since it became a category. Same for act5%, there's a new thread about it, and even though it's not an official category, I ran it anyways, and plan to run it more on top of my normal runs when I get back from my vacation
Just do it. I'm personally interested in seeing the outcomes of those runs
Is this possible/tested with the summoning seals in Chaos Sanctuary? Could be worth speccing blaze instead of fire wall/meteor in hell sorc runs if we could totally prevent spawning de seis, and use blaze with Korlic following you instead
Sorry to revisit this old thread, but not being able to play the game while I'm traveling has got me thinking on various topics, this being one of them -
Is there a known reason this skips waves? Is it because of lag, or too many sprites? Is Blaze the only way to do it, or can we also fill the screen with minions/charged bolts/bone wall-bone prison/fire wall/portals/items? Could be worth testing if these haven't been tried out, especially since some of these skills are maxed out for some runs (mostly bone wall)
If these waves could be reliably skipped you could shave a decent minute or three each difficulty, depending on class
That looks correct - it is right after the loading screen
I do notice that it occasionally lags for a moment after character creation - but I think if it really came down to milliseconds for a record, then the VOD timestamps can be compared in those cases
Is there a benefit in terms of speedrunning to this? Will it help you progress through the game faster?
If there is a trick to permanently enable the "up arrow" method of repeating the previous message, then I vote that we should leave macros out
Did a run of all classes:
Sorceress: 7:06, found a Magus wand. Orb/static main spells
Paladin: 15:31, hammerdin, all extra points into vigor, 1 point into charge. could be improved with Magus wand or teleport staff
Druid: 19.26. windy. pretty bad time tbh. Could be improved with tele staff and magus
Barbarian: 22:34, war cry. I found a tele staff. Maybe could be improved with concentrate if a crushing blow weapon is found, for fighting Baal because that was the longest part, or a Magus wand
Assassin: 15:20 , lightning Sentry, burst of speed. Only real improvement could be a tele staff
Necro: 18:09, found a Magus staff. Bone spear, Golem/iron maiden for Baal. Could find teleport staff
Amazon: 16:33, charged strike. Found a +jav skills javelin. Tele staff or +attack speed javelin could help
All these are just rough tries and proofs of concept, could be greatly optimized
When I was doing the Pacifist route I had asked if macros were allowed for changing /players and I think the answer I was given was a definite no. But I wouldn't complain if it was allowed now. It can be hard to change it on the go, and can be argued that it is part of the difficulty of playing Px
Magus wand* but yeah, 7:06 now :D recorded it this time, I'll have to find some time to upload it somehow (I'm abroad right now)
This is a surprisingly fun category to run, other classes should be fun to explore!
LOL just found a magic wand during shopping, 8:19 now. I should start recording these
Neat! I did not know you could do that. Seems interesting with all the menuing right from the start, and a quick, fun and dirty category. Would be fun to do a sort of race with this, race for an hour or two with multiple tries, or set number of tries, and see who gets the fastest time within that time
I just did a few runs, fastest time I've got so far is 10:03 with a frozen orb/static field build, and skip shopping for a belt. Get lucky with drops, hopefully, move on without it, just requires more potion management
I did Amazon in about 15 minutes, too
I did a small test run for Paladin and it took me 2 hours to beat Andy LUL. fun little challenge run but definitely very slow and tedious and you're not gonna get anywhere without charms. Damage reduction armor and shield are helpful early. Nadir helm is the only other runeword than Stealth that could even come close to helping you out here, since everything else is a weapon
