There's recently been more runs submitted that use gear glitches so I was wondering what people's stance on them are. The main two glitches utilizing gears would be gear clipping (clipping through walls by quickly equipping and unequipping a gear) and gear speed glitching (offsetting center of mass by using an emote like /e dance2 and jumping diagonally for more speed).
I've been wondering whether there should be a category split to seperate these glitches from the regular emote clip & wallhop runs. The main options would be:
- Keep these glitches in the same category as it is right now.
- Create a new sub-category for glitches utilizing gears.
- Create a variable that tracks whether a run utilizes gears or not. (Would keep them in the same category but marks if the run utilizes gears so that people can then filter the leaderboard themselves)
In addition the current gear clipping runs that have been submitted all use gears that comes from the Typical Crate (Board With a Nail in It and Crowbar) https://www.speedrun.com/tcr/runs/y6vergqm https://www.speedrun.com/tcr/runs/zxqp8e8m https://www.speedrun.com/tcr/runs/yoxl7w5y
If we decide for a split I would like to discuss whether or not these should be included in the same category/sub-category/variable as the Typical Crate is currently unavailable in a few countries due to laws against lootboxes. (This restriction can be circumvented by using a VPN) There's also the potentional for gears coming from events (Advent calender, seasonal shop items, gamenights) to be utilized, as these gears would be more limited in availability it might be smart to split those in a way to.
I'm currently gearing (accidental pun oops) towards option 3 of creating a variable that tracks whether a run uses gears, and also tracking the source of where the gear was obtained. This would mean a variable with 4 options: No, Yes, Lootboxes, Events. We could also potentionally simplify this to 3 options merging either lootboxes & events, or merging yes & lootboxes.
Hoping for a productive discussion surrounding gear glitches in this thread, feel free to come with alternative solutions or things I might of missed too.
Game was remastered which came with a complete visual overhaul and some control/physics changes, guessing most if not all runs are pretty much obsolete now
There was recently a run submitted that uses a cornerglitch to skip a part of a floor to finish the map faster (currently sitting in verification cause I'm not sure what to do with it yet)
so my question to the community would be:
Should there be a category added for runs that include glitches (Clipping through walls, corner glitches, dance clips, wallhops)?
If yes would adding a whole new category or making a sub category for every map (that benefits from glitches) be the best option?
If no glitched runs wouldn't be displayed on the leaderboard in any form and any runs submitted using them would be denied.
another option might be to just turn the current category into any% and allow both glitchless and glitched runs in the same category.
feel free to discuss and share your opinions in this thread, any and all voices are appreciated.
Due to the update to the map Retro Wave, I've decided to split the map into two sub-categories, the default map version and the RB Battles version. This is due to the versions being vastly different. https://www.speedrun.com/tcr/Retro_Wave#Glitchless
The CrusheR had an update on 11.01.2020 which in addition to adding 28 maps (which were added to the Individual Levels leaderboard) the ingame timer underwent a change making the timer start when the blue floor in the map disapears instead of when the player loads into a map. Due to this update all runs done will be 10+ seconds faster, and therefore I've manually changed the time on all 249 runs that were done before the update to take away 10 seconds from them.
P.S if you find any runs where I didn't update to the new time or updated to the wrong time please notify me of it
The main blue moon shortcut was patched, so a few runs needs to be invalid now instead (this includes my 1:30 and 1:31 + anna's 1:31 and 1:32
As we all know there was a update to the game changing the 100% and adding nightmare mode, I would request a leaderboard clear for 100% as its now outdated and a new catogory, nightmare mode and also the ingame timer being used
