Moderator Note: Re-timed to 2:05:50 This speedrun uses a Real Time timing method. Would recommend the LiveSplit Autosplitter as it removes load times.

PC and Console are separate category's so it is an even playing field - all console players are running against each other with load times included.

load times only make up about 1 minutes of the run's time so the gap isn't huge anyway if you want to rank them all together.

We've already found a Way to Skip Slums 1 and Rooftops (doing Slums 2 during Slums 1) so a Glitchless category should be on the cards - could call it "all chapters" to distinguish it from 100%

The run will eventually reach that stage (no deaths/reloads for top times) so when we get there, i might bring it up again - the consensus in the discord right now seems to be RTA so think we'll end up with that. Just means that there's really no point in showing the IGT at the end of a run.

IGT is fine if you specify runs can't die or reload - which would be the goal as the times are refined down. The limitation of IGT listed above will be a legacy problem after a few months of practice when the top times don't have deaths or reloads.

We should try to future proof the leader board rather than catering to where the community is right now barely a week out of launch.

Compromise Any% IGT but death and reloads invalidate a run; consider it a hardcore run and timing is the IGT at the menu Any% RTA (alternative name "Single Session") includes deaths, reloads, ect and is timed from power start game to loosing control at the end

I'm in favor of IGT for any% and 100% - the game has a built in timer so using it seems the most consistent option for those two at least

I'd be in favour of allowing standalone DuckStation. Doesn't really make sense (unless i'm missing something) to not allow the emu unless it has the required front end.

IrelandZahnZee2 years ago

DuckStation is not available in the Retroarch cores anymore to download so I've not been able to set up the core to run.

The problem is that this Core is the only core in the rules. The Emulator: Retroarch 1.9+ with Duckstation Core

Is there a solution to this, or does this mean that the EMU can't be used in the Digital category?

If there's a difference, seems a no brainer for me to have separate categories. When I ran on emulator, it just "felt" different (now that could have been because I was a worse runner then) but anecdotally, I agree with you.

Hey all, can you pause the game and still have a valid timed run submitted? Assuming that the recording would need to be uninterrupted.

Pausing the game pauses the in-game timers so would that invalidate a run?

The rules say "no desynced audio" but I've never seen a run with the sound muted so I'm not sure. I personally don't think i'd be an issue but it could make the run harder to verify.

I'd personally love if the patch allowed the sound to stay playing when not the active window like you see in many emulators. That'd be the best of both worlds here
