Not sure what it did for its popularity, but Sonic 06 is considered complete garbage casually but seems to have a decent speedrunning scene.

Hey! World Conquest could've been a category, but so far no one has done a complete WC without save scumming and with a video recording of the entire thing. I myself almost managed it but messed up near the end and had to save scum, so that doesn't officially count. Meanwhile, the others that have done it before me that I know of didn't have video recordings, so those won't count either. There isn't much point in having the category on the leaderboard if there are no valid runs, and considering how difficult and time consuming a Vic2 WC is, it's not likely that many others will even attempt it. But if someone does and they manage to complete a full valid run with a video recording, then we could certainly add it!

Hello! As you say, this isn't a full recorded speedrun, which we require for the leaderboard, so even though it's really cool it unfortunately can't be an official world record on this leaderboard. I think it's fairly well known as an inofficial one though!

@AslanTZ Yeah I hate that! I can't count how many times I've tried to click on a run in the level leaderboard, only for it to shift and suddenly I'm recording a run, submitting it, having it verified as a WR, getting invited to GDQ and then starting a streaming career on Twitch. So annoying!

Take this up with the God of War mods. This is a general forum and most people here have no idea of how God of War works.

@Oreo321 That would be a tool-assisted run, not allowed in RTA.

Let me just get some of the old obscure Paradox games and do some runs for them real quick ;)

Hey, I'm a mod for a few Paradox Grand Strategy games, most of whom are open-ended sandbox games without any one definitive goal. The way we've done it for these games is to make a lot of different categories for limited goals within the games, but try our best to restrict categories to ones that aren't too arbitrary. For example, most of these games have steam achievements that are defined and implemented by the developers, and many categories are based on those. Other categories are based on challenges that are typical within each game's general community and clearly laid-out within the game, such as forming historical countries (since these are historical strategy games).

There definitely is the risk of category-bloat though, since even within these restrictions there are loads of potential categories that could be considered (some of these games have over 300 steam achievements for example). But I think that's somewhat inevitable, since the alternative would be to arbitrarily restrict the number of categories even though each one could be considered equally valid. In my opinion, the best you can do is find some clear guidelines for what could be considered a reasonable category, and then try to organize the leaderboard as neatly as possible to accommodate it (for example by using the Individual Level feature).

In some cases, games are simple and/or well-defined enough that you can relatively easily calculate the fastest possible time, if there are always a specific number of possible paths you can take at any given time so you can just find the fastest one. In some cases you can go even further than that, such as with Dragster where people managed to find/recreate the source code, and it was short enough that someone did an analysis of literally every possible outcome from every possible series of inputs, and found that the theoretically fastest time possible was 5.57 seconds.

There now also exists a general Paradox speedrunning community that seeks to create a more interconnected community between the different Paradox games. Feel free to join in there too if you want:

Well hello there, I'm a mod for EU4, Vic2 and MotE. If you have feedback for the Paradox speedrun leaderboards, then why not bring them up in each game's respective forums, or better yet, join the Discord servers and discuss it there (each game's Discord server is linked on their respective leaderboards as well). The current layout of the leaderboards are the result of multiple revisions and input from the people who actually run the games, so if you're going to come along and deem that it's just dumb then you might want to motivate it in a constructive manner.

You can assign variables to specific categories, but would it be possible to also assign variables to specific subcategories, so basically assign variables to other variables that are being used as subcategories?

I'm here to announce that RTA Unrestricted has been officially removed as a subcategory, so henceforth RTA NS5 will be the only real-time subcategory and the use of Speed 5 will be officially banned from all RTA runs. Keep in mind that you're allowed to change your game speed before starting the timer, so take your time to make sure you don't set your game speed higher than 4 before unpausing (hit the speed-increase button/hotkey 3 times to reach speed 4).

The old RTA Unrestricted runs have not been deleted, but rather moved to a new Legacy category found under Misc. This was done just to preserve these runs, so no new submissions will be accepted there.

"If you sort the games list by "most active" or "least active", you will see an active runners count for each game. This is the number of players that submitted at least one full-game run in the last 30 days. The number ignores IL runs."

Seems a bit odd to exclude IL runs, especially considering that some leaderboards are primarily based around ILs.

I also gotta say that the "scoring system" for active players on the statistics page is... interesting to say the least. I really wonder why they would opt to use such a complex formula rather than just counting players that have submitted runs recently, like the value on the games list. At the very least they probably shouldn't call it "Number of currently active players" since that's not exactly what the number represents; it would be more appropriate to just call it "activity score" or something like that, imo.
