I was about 9, maybe 10 years old when I got my first game, Kirby Squeak Squad for the DS. Once you 100% the game you unlock a mode that times how fast you can 100% game. Although this time isn't super accurate, it was enough to get me to try and speedrun it, and then most other games I play at least once. I notice in-game timers are how many get into speedrunning. They tend to pique the interest of players, who give speedrunning a try and often enjoy it. For me the most satisfying part of is coming up with and then implementing new strategies. It's why I like to speedrun a game for a couple of months before checking out any tutorials or guides, so I can see how far I can get using my own ideas. It's also why I like to run some games with smaller communities, there's plenty of potential for coming up with improvements to the run. Hope this helps, and can't wait to see the essay when it comes out!

I guess I'll just not use splits then. I'm fine with doing so, I just thought it would be nice to see my pace during runs. Thanks for the reply!

I noticed there is a tutorial in guides about setting up an auto splitter for PC, but what about doing so for the console versions (in my case the Switch)?

Looking forward to helping this game in the near future!

I plan to post as many matches of the tourney as I can to a SMBC YouTube channel once the tourney is over.

I'm not very well versed with this game, but if I had to guess it's because frog skip doesn't work in 1.3.0, the fastest version of the game. Over the course of 3 hours the timesave from the latest version adds up.

I was planning on running the game when RF 4 Special came out, but I noticed the rules section doesn't include any rules. What are they?

Thanks for the help, I speedrun several games with small communities and one game I plan to speedrun in the future basically has no speedrun community, so both yal's answers are decently helpful.

A ton of fantastic speedgames often get overshadowed by the more popular choices, so I was wondering if anyone had any tips on growing a game's speedrun community.

Personally I'm on board for making difficulties separate, but this runs into the issue of having too many categories, something we've been trying to eliminate since the leadership change a couple months back.

In regards to the no video runs, after the rule changing requiring WR runs (top 3 for Any%) to have video proof, those were verified back when the mods in charge allowed p much any run through (which is no longer the case thankfully). They were still allowed after the leadership/rule change, since they were still un-optimized enough to be easily beaten, which has been slowly but surely happening.

I know it was mentioned earlier in the thread that this feature got obsoleted by a newer version of jQuery and they the WR History charts are currently being worked on, but I was wondering if there were any updates on this?

Super Mario Bros Crossover https://www.speedrun.com/smbc

This is a game that lets you play through 3 Mario Games (SMB, Lost Levels, and SMB Special) as 1 of 10 characters (Mario, Luigi, Link, Samus Aran, Bill Rizer, Simon Belmont, Ryu Hayabusa, Mega man, Bass and Sophia III.)

Reasons to run -Short run, with longer categories taking about half an hour, with the more ran categories all being less than 10 minutes. -All the crossover characters feel extremely accurate to their source game. -Still quite a bit of room for optimization, especially for Warpless since it isn't as popular as Warps. -Welcoming community. -Free. -Easy to stream. -Good beginner speedgame. -Quite a bit of variety between the characters.

Downsides -Although the crossover characters control and feel perfect, Mario and Luigi feel quite bad to control oddly enough. -Although the community is welcoming, it's small size means competition isn't quite as fierce. -Whether or not short runs or long runs are better is a matter of personal preference. As previously mentioned this game is good for those who like smaller runs, but if you prefer larger games than this isn't for you..

I know it seems counter-intuitive to list the downsides in a thread like this, but I may as well be fair and list them anyways.

Does anyone have some decent Japanese roms of the game? All the ones I've found have graphical glitches on the loading screens ranging from minor to major that make me question the accuracy of the rom. Probably a stupid question, but I figured it was still worth asking.

I'm thinking about picking up this game and was wondering what a decent beginner time is for this category.

Currently practice IP clip. Just to make sure, are these clips possible in 1.2.0? I'm playing on that since I'm not currently good enough to make use of 1.0.0 strats, and I know there are some clips that don't work in 1.2.0.

I kinda wanna begin learning World Peace, but I haven't been able to find any good beginner tutorials. Any suggestions for a decent guide to use?
