Since OpenRCT2 runs are now allowed for this game, I wanted to introduce a category that permitted the fast-forward feature. However, I thought it made more sense to have this mode respect the time requirement of each scenario (complete by October year 3, for example). I didn't give it much thought since I prefer playing the game at 1x speed. What are your thoughts on the FF category? Should the runner have to wait until year X or no?

Hello everyone.

Not too long after I became mod, Sphinctus approached me about the current situation for speedrunning RCT Classic. At the moment, RCTC runs can be found on the RCT1 leaderboards under its own category. While I think that was a fine place to start, especially to gauge if there was any interest or not, I believe that it needs it's own game entry if it's going to continue to exist. The reasons are as follows:

  1. RCTC is its own game. It's a remastered game. There are plenty other remastered titles on speedrun.com that have their own pages. Both RCT Deluxe AND RCT Classic are available for purchase on Steam. And neither one is definitively better than the other.

  2. It's not just a remastered version of RCT1. It's a remastering of RCT 1 AND 2. It has scenarios that aren't included in RCT1. Because of this, the RCT1 leaderboards can't completely accommodate RCTC's scenarios. It also doesn't fit in RCT2 for the same reason.

  3. RCTC features a fast-forward feature that isn't present in the original game. As a moderator for RCT1, I don't really know how to treat this feature since it is beyond the scope of the game I moderate.

  4. I am generally unfamiliar with RCTC's differences and quirks. At the moment I can try my best to look at and verify runs, but the bottom line is I don't know much about the game. Sure, much of the actual core gameplay is the same, but there are many changes that I'm plainly not familiar with.

I'd like to hear what everyone thinks. Is my reasoning sound? Are there any major reasons I missed? Is there any reason RCTC should not get its own game entry? I'd especially like to hear from community moderators HotCoffee and yesimbill as I feel they should be involved in the final decision making.

I have 5 runs that have been awaiting verification for 3 weeks. Could I please have someone look at them? Or you could just mod me, I don't care. Any feedback at all would be nice.

I'm not sure what the rules are for using custom track layouts in a run. Personally, I'd be in favor of allowing the use of custom track layouts that were saved during the run, ie in one run, you built it once, and saved it with the intent to copy it during that run. You get what I'm saying? I don't like the idea of being able to use custom track layouts that were saved prior to the start of the run.
