Apologies if this is already known, but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.

I was playing the game just now, and ended up making a mid-air jump that seems to be similar to SMB1's wall ejection jumps. This happened on a 1.1 cartridge (DMG-ML-AUS, though I doubt the region would matter) played with genuine/unmodified GBA SP hardware, and I don't have a recording (sorry).

The jump happened at this location on level 1-3: https://i.imgur.com/IRLMmnN.png And followed a trajectory similar to: https://i.imgur.com/NrTULA3.png

I believe I collided with the side of the pipe at or around the second horizontal line, which may meet SMB1's criterion of hitting on a block boundary if the bug is actually the same. The only other thing I can think of that may somehow be related if it's not SMB1-like is that this pipe has a pirahna plant in it which iirc was heading downwards at the time - perhaps some collision with the edge of that?

As for what this means for the game... likely not much. Even if this can be replicated anywhere at will, so much of the game is already played at a full-run that the only potential saves might be not having to wait for a vertical platform in some spots and that's hardly significant considering the current time losses due to human error in even the best runs at the time of writing. So unless there's a way of wall-jumping off the screen and somehow breaking the game by doing so, at most this is probably just a few seconds off of the TAS time.

Still, I thought it was interesting enough to share with everyone.

Just providing another report in case the info is eventually useful - I had this happen just now on hard mode at the end of the star power around 2/3 of the way through 2-2. Also this was with an AUS region v1.1 cart on original hardware (GBA SP) instead of an emulator.

You're right. For my run (the first link) I just asusmed that because it wasn't going to be worth gold (because I didn't pick up the bonus) it must have been a silver. I've submitted an edit - thanks.

There's already a list of gold medal requirements here http://www.speedrun.com/rogue1/guide/6wqty but it doesn't contain what the requirements are for silver/bronze because it idea was probably for anybody wanting to do 100% runs. This could end up being a bit of a hassle, though, if you end up having to look up tables of requirements every time you submit a run.

I think I saw one of yours with the wrong medal as well. It doesn't really matter IMO, at least as long as the times, etc. are correct.

Correct, I put the wrong thing in the form - I saw the gold background and didn't think to check the scores.

I've put in an edit to both of those runs, which just need to be verified. Thanks for pointing it out.

See, if 46:22 in that video isn't allowed (and I can totally see why), how different is that from 47:02 really? Not saying that the rules should be changed for either, but it does illustrate the need for clarification.

The community should probably decide on if "clipping" in general should be allowed, but as of now the clip in the boat is not allowed.

I agree that in principle this would be better because it would be a general rule rather than being specific to one trick, but it might turn out to be more difficult to get people to agree that way. The alternative would be to make a list of all known clips and then have some sort of vote on what should be allowed in a manner similar to the Glitchless categories in games like Ocarina of Time. This is a less elegant solution but at least it would be clear what is and is not allowed.

I general I think at least more detailed explanations of the rules would be helpful, though, as I've seen a lot of new players pass up the (arguably easier to learn) Glitchless category because they can't find an explanation better than Arie's pastebin, which is basically what is listed here anyway.

Can you give a video example of the clipping just so that we are all talking about the same thing?
