Long jumping is the fastest way to get around. For Mario, doing a Wiimote spin in midair will give you more height, whereas with Luigi, doing a Nunchuk spin in midair will give you more height; and be sure to hold A while doing so with either character! Other than that, I guess uh...watch high level runs and see what you can pick up, and don't die too much lol
@_abyss Dolphin doesn't run the same way on every computer. Your experience will vary depending on the specs you have. At least on console, the experience you have is consistent, as the game runs the way it was actually meant to. Dolphin won't run very well unless you have powerful enough specs to run it smoothly without frying your motherboard. I think it's fine if you don't really like the unofficial emulator board, I created that sheet IN CASE anyone WANTED to use it. I don't care if people use it or not, I made it just so it could kind of exist as an option.
@_abyss so here's the problem, right? Dolphin is an emulator with TAS capabilities. Now because of this, if Dolphin were allowed on the main boards, someone could just whip up a suboptimal TAS, and try to pass it off as a real run. But that takes more effort than it's worth, and if it does happen, and a mod asks you if you can display gameplay at a similar level, and you can't do it, then you've already failed at cheating. Literally just make the effort to get a copy of the game and learn how to run it normally, it really doesn't take that much, and it's way better than cheating and trying to cover up the fact that you cheated. If you even try to cheat, the mods will immediately know that something's fishy.
It generally makes more sense to request the category when the 3 runs have already been done.
@Beesches Now I'm going to play the Odme card here and ask, do YOU even run this game?
Y'all. Hardcore beat that WR with 2P. Also this is stupid and an old forum, I highly doubt anyone's gonna take anything said in here seriously lol
Well, loads can still play a role for certain ILs, like anything in Good Egg or Toy Time (at least, if we're comparing disc to VC and Switch lmao)
Generally if you wanna suggest a category, you should probably do a run of it yourself lol
If anything, TASes are a better showcase of how far any given run can go. There’s 2 SMG1 Any% TASes in the works; one for Mario, and one for Luigi. And as far as I remember, the Mario TAS has made more progress than the Luigi one lol
Bro you can literally just…disable the pause hotkey, and do another run with the tips I gave you (whenever you have time for it). Just because this run was rejected doesn’t mean all of your runs will be rejected forever and ever. You just need to fix the mistakes that the mods are pointing out. They’re trying to help you, believe it or not.
As for the “custom route” question, no, there is nothing wrong with using a custom route for your runs. As long as you follow the timing rules, and you get the correct amount of Stars (in this case, 71), you’re good. The route posted in the resources tab is there as a recommendation to both new and experienced runners, because it has been tested and proven to be the best route (er, until someone finds an improvement) for runs. But if you want to use your own route, that’s absolutely fine. Just understand that you will likely lose time to the fastest route.
Well here’s the other thing. You can’t submit a TA run to an RTA leaderboard. That just wouldn’t be fair. As for the other oddities, those can simply be remedied by starting a new recording before each attempt (at least, that’s how I do it). And obviously it also helps if your run is done RTA, if you want to submit it to the leaderboard. Hope that helps a little bit.
It’s probably worth it to review your own footage to see if the moderators’ claims are actually true. Maybe they noticed something that you didn’t. There’s no use trying to call them out here. I understand that situations like this are frustrating, but may I also suggest taking a calmer approach. Maybe the mods are wrong, maybe they’re right, but they are also humans like you and I. Cut the attitude, because they’ll be less likely to help you if you approach them this way.
I think for that, you might have to do a separate run. But that's still a neat idea!
