I'm mostly posting this on the off chance anyone else tries to run this horrible trainwreck of a game.
Today, while practicing for a NASA pre-stream, I discovered the existence of a run button - it's bound to Shift by default but you can change it in the Unity options menu - and causes you to move at roughly twice the speed. While it doesn't explain all of the inconsistent glitches in the game (namely how sometimes you'll get super-momentum coming off bounce pads) it does make the game significantly faster. My first run shaved 43 seconds off the previous WR run - and that was without really being acclimated to the run button and taking an unnecessary death.
One mystery still remains in the controls menu, which is why there are several buttons listed under single-letter identifiers that don't seem to do anything. I'll probably chalk it up to shovelware.
This thread will be primarily for any unlucky runners who get suckered into somehow following in my footsteps, discussing theory and how to make the run faster.
In recent testing, I discovered that the game's graphics quality setting seems to affect momentum. My first run of this game (and all of my runs up to this point) were using lowest graphics settings in the hope of reducing inter-stage load times. However, my tests have shown that there is no discernable increase in lag or load times when using "Fantastic" (highest) quality versus "Fastest" (lowest) quality.
What I did find is that shots are more responsive on "Fantastic" - the collision seems to calculate more quickly and thus you can in theory shoot the hanging log in Forest from off-screen and save yourself having to hit the jump pad before it. This is still inconsistent, however.
I've also noticed that bounce pads seem to respond differently on "Fantastic" - many of them give slightly higher momentum values than they do on "Fastest". In theory, this will allow me to shave several seconds off my previous WR by staying off the ground more and moving at the faster in-air rate.
Finally, I've noticed that the "elevator" in stage 2 is actually slightly faster than the death warp provided that you stay on the extreme left (against the wall) to avoid being knocked back down by the red orb.
