We are working on going through them right now and working up a schedule. I'm hesitant to give an exact date in case we miss it but I'd like to believe that we will have a final schedule within the next week.

This will be feedback coming from an attendee / tech guy as well. There might be some overlap in feedback but such is life.

Hotel:

(Positives) Having a full breakfast was nice, and the food was pretty good for a hotel like that. Any breakfast with eggs and sausage are a good breakfast for me. The location of the hotel was great, with lots of food and entertainment options nearby, including a giant arcade. The rooms having microwaves were awesome, since we often had leftovers from dinner the night before, and the event rooms having fridges were great to store communal food and drinks.

(Negatives) As everyone else has obviously said, the internet was the only real glaring problem I saw with the hotel. I think the best option would've been to tweet out on the nasa marathon twitter that they need someone to check the hotel internet, as that would have likely found more willing people than whatever method was used. The fact that even the wired connection required us to log in every 24 or so hours (it was never consistent) caused the stream to go down at unfortunate times.

Overall, I really loved the hotel and its location, but unless they improve their internet I could not recommend going back in a future year.

Tech:

(Positives) Lurk already shouted out all of the people I could remember who mainly helped with the tech over the whole marathon, but it was great how well all of us were able to work together to solve most of the stream problems over the first few days. I would like to note that the skill levels of the tech widely varied from quite proficient in audio and video to relatively uninformed, but we were all just volunteers who stepped up to help because there were not a ton of people there volunteering. I am also glad that we always had a least one tech there at all times over the whole marathon, which could've been a problem as I will discuss in the negatives. Finally, I love how willing people were to share their gear to help improve the marathon quality. By the end we probably had gear from around 5-10 different people, which I feel helped improve the stream quality a lot.

(Negatives) Since I mostly focused on running the stream and helped less with the initial video and audio setup, I cannot provide much feedback into that (look for a post from Dark-Aries later for more feedback on that). Obviously we needed to have better communication about what tech was being brought by which people, because there were times when certain people did not bring gear that would have improved the stream quality because they were told it wouldn't be needed. I think for a future marathon people should bring their good gear unless they know someone else is bringing something better.

My biggest feedback from the tech area is less about the gear and more about the people. There was a volunteer sign-up thread before the event, but I feel that it wasn't really used. It was more the case that once we determined who was willing to help with the tech, we made sure that they were trained to a basic degree on everything they had to interact with, then they joined the tech rotation. Since there was no type of volunteer schedule, we had to determine on the fly who would be watching the station at any given time. Since we all had things we wanted to do outside of the tech station as well, sometimes it was hard to find a person to watch the station, or there were some cases where people were pulling a shift for 20 out of 24 hours in a day. As well, since not everyone had the same level of technical proficiency, there were times where there was a stream problem and the most proficient people were sleeping since they just finished an 8-10 hour tech shift. I think for the future, we should better identify volunteers, and come up with some sort of basic schedule to ensure that there is always at least one tech at the station.

Other:

(Positives) For the marathon as a whole, I feel that everyone I interacted with was very friendly and easy to get along with, and I was amazed with how much I enjoyed this event. I never took place in any of the mafia/werewolf/casual room games, but there did seem like there was something to do for everyone here. Having no filter on stream was great because it made the stream seem much more relaxed, which I feel most people enjoyed (myself included). The twitch chat can fall under the positive or negative depending on when you tuned in, but I was always towards less moderation so that was nice. I also enjoyed making sure that every run (during my blocks at least) came under estimate :)

(Negatives) Speaking of twitch chat, I feel that next time we should have better guidelines on which mods we add and what we allow in chat, so we don't get inconsistent bans across different people. I found that during the marathon, it was hard to identify different people since most of them I had never met before, so having name tags that people could optionally use would have been really helpful, especially since people came up to me asking to set up for their run and I would always have to ask them for their name and run. As for the official staff of NASA, I feel that they should have been more clearly identifiable so that people could find them easier (though it seemed as the marathon went on, the person running the tech station became the go-to "staff" member if a question needed answering).

Overall, I had a great time at this marathon. I met a ton of new people, and learned a whole bunch of stuff about stream setups and the tech behind it. I would definitely come back for a future year, and I feel like a lot of things will be learned from this event that would allow for a much smoother event to be run in the future.

I didn't proofread any of this so if it doesn't make sense, too bad.

I will be leaving from around Niagara Falls, ON early on the 18th, should arrive at the hotel 8-10 hours after that. After I get checked in I will be willing to help setup whatever is needed.

Depending on how experienced you want the volunteers to be, I can help with either position. I have had some basic experience with both audio and video, but moreso with the audio side of things in the past

I will pay at the event

I have volunteered to help with tech, and have some friends who will be running at the event (and may commentate if they need someone). I was wondering if you need to be doing something specific (such as helping with tech, running, or commentating) to attend? If so I was going to wait to book a hotel room, but if not I was going to book with friends sooner.

Sounds good! I'll be giving that a try when I wake up tomorrow then.

Hi everyone,

I will be participating in the 12 Hour Speedrunning challenge over the next few days and am looking to learn Ori and The Blind Forest. (Just finished my first clear blind today)

I was planning on learning All Cells, because that category looked interesting to me, but I was wondering from the community if 12 hours would be enough to learn and do a full run of All Cells. If not I will look towards one of the Any% categories.

I live right near 2 of the people looking to volunteer above, and am also willing to help with anything/everything as well. Most of my tech experience was back in high school as well where I've worked with mics, lighting, and audio. I have not used XSplit but would be willing to learn if more people are needed, and would just be willing to help around with whatever would be needed in general.
