IGT is generally inaccurate in the Final Fantasy series, but in the event it was accurate for 15 that would be a good option.
Sorry for the late response. I feel that timed without loads will be the best thing for Final Fantasy 15, but it seems that it would likely have to be a manual process which would be a huge load on people or moderators to take care of as the run will be at least a few hours. While it is something I would prefer a lot, not sure if it's possible. If anything is ever found that can make it possible I would be very ecstatic.
Ah, so doing it manually is likely the only way. That's unfortunate :(. With that said, it's probably something that would be too much work.
With Final Fantasy 15's release getting closer and closer, I've been exploring some possibilities for what we could do to address some of the issues of large variance between the slowest and fastest platform. I have seen some games before that use timed without loads as their standard and I wondered if something like this would be possible for a console game, or if this is only something that can work on PC games? If this were possible, I feel the ideal way to handle it would be the timer would stop during any moment that the game won't accept any input from your controller. The timer would run during a skippable cutscene though, for example. Is this something that is possible?
With two of you having done runs now and potentially more to come from others, that should be enough reason to get it up on the boards now. I will see what I can do.
Edit: Although I was able to bandaid fix the Final Fantasy XV boards, it appears that I wasn't able to set it up in an ideal way that people are happy with. Would it be possible to get a rollback on the Final Fantasy XV leaderboards to anytime before 7 PM EST 4/20?
Edit: No longer set up this way so this is not relevant :)
On the topic of difficulties in regards to Hard Mode. You could start a file from new game, clear Normal Mode, then clear Hard Mode and that would make sense. But NG+ is not and should never be treated as an official category, at least in the case of Lightning Returns. Whole point of speedrunning is to start the game fresh and beat it as fast as possible while playing the game normally. Cheesing everything by being overleveled and using equipment that you aren't intended to have at certain points goes against what speedrunning is.
If easy mode runs were to be done, for very obvious reasons it has to be a separated category. A lot of the game mechanics are different such as 1 EP Overclocks, no time lost on battle escape, etc. Generally Normal Node is most likely to be the most competitive category since Easy Mode trivializes the game very much like MLSTRM previously said. With that said if people start running Easy Mode, then it could be added to the boards as it's own category. However I don't see a reason to put Easy Mode up on the boards if there is only one runner. If it actually becomes something that gets attention and multiple people are running it, then that would make sense.
