Idea brought up by TheMaster & mr.deagle. This thread will represent all rulechanges made to game, so that it is clear why and what chages over time. It makes for people who wonder "why is this rule a thing", "why is that allowed", "why is that disallowed" to find answers relatively quick without bothering every single person imaginable.
Copying it into Ultimate Doom and Doom II, because people might have questions. Main thread - https://www.speedrun.com/doom/thread/e2kno/1#xwchs
First I need to say that doom speedrunning community is one of oldest in existence and amount of runs done on IWADs (ones that you can find here) is bigger than couple of thousands in different categories, including ILs, TASes, episode runs etc. Ofcource it is impossible to port all that into sr.com without turning it into complete mess. So why creating doom series on sr.com? It is very simple - to provide RTA competetion for most known doom games and to show what game is capable of. Normally doom is about demos, that's how it was/is/will be , but that doesn't mean that those who just want to run game semi-casually (or not entirely seriously) have no chances of appearing on any sorts of leaderboards. That's why we created series page.
!!!!!!!!! Where to find all those thousands of demos? There is one big archive right here - https://dsdarchive.com/ - it is being updated every now and then. Please note, that DSDA is an archive and not just leaderboards, so it has all times for every map, which were ever made and sent there. Also I'd recommend joining doomworld.com forums, for all recent activity inside community. There is also a discord where some people are discussing mapping, runs and stuff - https://discord.gg/zNxGGKQ !!!!!!!!!!
This thread is created for main discussions and questions that you have. Feel free to ask anything here.
so I figured it wasn't clear from rules (how did I miss that) and apparently people took different approach on what's going on with timer at the end of a game. Answer is - Timer stops NOT after last boss is dead, but AFTER you lose control after last boss (UNLESS it happeneds at the same moment, like in BFE). I don't see any reason to stop it earlier since game is still going and ingame timer still counts that standing time until cutscene starts. I now will go over all runs on lbs checking endings. For single-segment runs it doesn't matter cause they just check IGT and are good to go (so if you bring arguement, like Dylaneka's Normal TFE it won't matter, cause it is single-segment run). I will double-check that final RTA is still calculated the same way over all runs. Old games have "Playing time" which is somewhat like "IGT without loads", but I'd rather not use that field, and you have load removal tool for most of SS games now, just check inside your livesplit. I bring this on forum, cause not every runner is on discord. I'll add timing line on Rules for every game mentioned in header of this topic. Discussion here will be closed, please come to discord if you want to talk about it.
I'm gonna start doing something about this, cause it still seems like FUN side-category. @Molotok - if you have any interesting notes about routes or certain KFs post them here please ;)
So I was thinking of the best way to define segmented runs, also was thinking of overall quality of LBs and found a perfect solution for it, which, after lotsa thinking, seems to make a lot of sense.
Since speedrun.com kinda supports subcategories (I once said that it doesn't but apparently something like this http://www.speedrun.com/sms#Any1 exists) - all difficulty levels will be put on a lower level as subcategories and top categories will look like any%, any% coop and ILRush. And if I have to donate something for that - I probably will, unless the price is obnoxious (I have no idea how to actually create subcategories right now).
Now to topcategories: Any% is still same thing, you have to record your FULL run of a game from start to end, all loadings/saves must be included, if your game dies and you decide to continue - you include that in a VoD and it counts towords final time (not gonna really go through rules now, since everyone but ImFuryPro suits them).
Coop stays same - the only thing that gets changed - amount of players goes as a variable.
Now to ILRush - that's something I was really considering for a long time as of how to better name it or pull it off. So first - name "ILRush" basically goes from the fact that in every stage you get a certain ammo/weapon/health pool which you start with, and I could basically just name any% like that, but then the rule of "run must be recorded from the beginning to end" sounds arbitrary as hell.
So this is basically a segmented category where you do all ILs as fast as you can with no restrictions - so it is, technically a faster category than any%, but it is not named any% because you can split your run and complete parts at a different time - (do ILs and submit IL compilation).
I do remember that we have a IL leaderboards, but this is mostly done because of ImFuryPro, whose runs are segmented. I haven't though of any reason why someone else would do a segmented run of IL based game, though I though it is pretty reasonable to make an IL compilation, to not make people go through every single of small VoDs (which you probably still would have).
So basically that means that your "ILRush" is basically your compilation of all ILs, but WITHOUT a restriction that a every single IL must be a full recording (which is the case for ILs). So it is kinda misc, and it will be in misc, but it sounds reasonable, it fits game.
Gonna leave that post for a time being - share your thoughts if you care. I will try to respond to any idea you have.
Hello, I want to ask you all here 1 question.
In classic series after you finish game, which of 2 timers, that are shown on stat-screen, is more accurate?
Right now the rule "IGT if no loadings" seems a bit nazi. I was considering doing that for a long time now and will be adding separate IGT and RTA columns, also "Has manual loadings" variable with yes/no answer.
Please spread that post to other runners, I need info about that. (REALLY NEED EVEN)
Thanks.
Since old games got so much interest I simply can't handle all that alone (there are some things needs to be done to LBs and I don't have time for that this November).
Big_Jim is THE mod, though not really active (like at all :D) as a runner right now.
Freezard is missing T_T
Yoshipro does some stuff from time to time, but I need a dedicated person that will do a certain thing (that will take some time, though not much).
That might sound like some hard and serious job interview I'm trying to start, yet it is not.
I need someone sane, without lust for power and friendly, so that we can make series LBs better.
As for now main difficulties are Tourist, Normal and Serious as they add the most reasonable Difficulty curve to the game, changing some strats and making some impossible, also adding some challenge to game other than tricks.
There was a discussion long time ago between me and Freezard, after which we decided that for ILs main difficulties will be Tourist and Serious as the biggest Curve between tricks/survival, though that was about HD series which don't allow to RJ on Tourist, yet it's the easiest difficulty to do harpy/gnaar fly tricks.
For ILs having something inbetween would make no sense, since you can grind it on easiest for speeds and on hardest for challenge (Mental is hardest since difficulty doesn't differ from Hard (not Serious) + enemies become invisible from time to time).
For HD games adding fullgame Normal and Serious makes no sense so far, because they are just much longer. Maybe they will be added under Misc if interest to those categories will appear at all.

This pretty much describes a thing. Description: http://pastebin.com/eWrJ9bwr Registration: http://goo.gl/JZnmhi
¤EDIT¤ I recorded new one, so check it, I still leave old one open, but it is outdated.
I've been running this for a long time now, so I've done a tutorial VOD which explains all the stuff about that game. Also gonna link SDA topic since it has all tricks in single VODs and all the old strats. https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/you_are_empty.html
I know that these are not all games. But I never seen somebody playing anything but these. If you run other SS games or know somebody - let me know - post in this thread.
since games are pretty optimised for 1 player but there still are some boring parts which (probably) can be speeded up by coop. Also sign up for 16 people coop :D If you are interested in trying any coop - post here and also post which game you want to coop. (probably SS2 coop might be a thing since game isn't that fast as others)
All the work has already been done by BigJim. All shoutouts go to him. http://www.youtube.com/user/Big1Jim - here you can find all the tutorials you need.
