few things you can try;
uninstall the game and reinstall, then delete the bio2.exe file (don't even open the game before deleting the exe) and replace it with the directx fix exe from here - http://www.speedrun.com/re2/resources (at the bottom of this page)
If this still doesn't work download 1.1 from here - http://www.speedrun.com/re2/resources After you click the patch and it creates the new 1.1 exe make sure you move that exe from the folder it creates into the game directory (usually it will be somewhere here) C:\Program Files (x86)\CAPCOM\BIOHAZARD 2 PC
once the game is installed check to see if your registry files for the game are correct if not you can change them. Heres mine.
to get here just search for regedit on your computer. your biohazard 2 folder may be in a different location to mine but it will be there, somewhere.
the value for "MovieEnable" can be set to 0 to disable movies which could result in more FPS
most problems seem to come down to sound, whether if be drivers, software or just the regedit files for the game so have a play around with it
¤ Moved Emu to their own Subcategories ¤ Added 2 new mods, FurryWulfz & Roofress, picked by me, Dara & Zenix ¤Still no reply from any inactive mods so if someone wants to msg Kirk, Pac or anyone about removing them go ahead
¤ I'm moving house tomorrow so i will be inactive for 2-3 weeks, but we have 4 active mods now and 5 when i regain internet access
you can also try the 1.1 patch from the resource section, since it has an SRT and auto splitters now
i had this problem on windows 10. All i did to fix it was reinstall the game and make sure the ISO is unmounted after installation.
EDIT: This first happened to me after a win10 update
Psxfin seems to already be the emulator that people use for ps1 emu runs, atleast for this game. Adding Bizhawk to the PSP/Emu Sub category would be really unfair to the people that go with Bizhawk since it is much slower than PSP and PsxFin, not sure how to handle that. Since we have no way to choose which emulator was used during the submission process.
I made attempts to contact the inactive mods 2 days ago just waiting to hear back, otherwise yeah i'll give pac or kirk a message.
As for the Emu Sub categories themselves, since we aren't getting much feedback it'd probably be a good idea to just go ahead and move the runs over to them soon, maybe then it will motivate and bring awareness that Emu is a thing for this game.
@FurryWulfz i've never looked into Bizhawk but i've heard good things about it. The only thing that could be a problem with it is speed, correct me if i'm wrong but bizhawk tries to be as accurate as possible to the official hardware right? because in that case the current best time on Emu (PsxFin) will never be touched by a Bizhawk runner.
Hopefully they are similar though, more options is good
The main reason i bring up the Hard mode sub category is because it was never fully discussed before being added and most of the Hardmode runs on the current leader board were migrated from the wiki and not much has been added since then. Also only 2 versions of the game have it but it's shown for all platforms which we can't change. But either way we should wait until we at least get some input from someone that has done hard mode
PsxFin has been the recommended Emu for a while and it should probably stay that way now, since kasumarii is very close to PSP times and in some cases beaten PSP with that Emu, It's also in the rules that it is recommended. It'd also be nice if we could get an autosplitter for PSEmu since PC and dolphin have one it'd make sense to have one for PS Emu aswell, If i get time i'll look into it.
Hard mode/Nightmare mode is only available for PC and Dreamcast, correct.
By inactive mods i mean mods that have had no interaction with the game by speedrunning, Verifying runs or gotten involved with the game in any way. They may be active on the website but aren't actively doing anything with this game. Srwatcher is a good example to use.
Completely agree that PSP/PS Emu could co-exist in the same category just depends what Emu runners have to say about it. Currently though there is only a 12 second gap between the top times for PSP/PS Emu so it's definitely something to consider.
i made some quick test changes to the leader board, split some categories, added some for Emu but used the "Show All>>" feature so they aren't all default viewed when opening the leader board.
This way we can have 2 lines of Platforms without it looking like an ugly mess and Emu runs aren't hidden behind a filter within the leader board itself, with this they will be separate.
I can change the ordering of whats shown/ Isn't shown and it can always change depending on the activity of the platforms.
Another thing i wanted to bring up is the Hard Mode Sub Category, is this really ever gonna be active? Carcinogen originally added it but does anyone else want it?
Personally i would prefer just "Any%" "Knife Only" as Sub cats and keep hard mode as a filter option like it always was instead of a Sub category.
Last thing i want to bring up is inactive mods. We have mods that have done nothing for a long time and tbh they just don't need to be there. It'd be nice to replace them with active runners that could co-exist and work with the current active mods.
Thoughts?
one thing you could try if you haven't already is install the game with System Memory instead of video memory.
other than that... i've got nothing. Never seen or heard of this before
This isn't about Console Vs Emulator, this is about keeping shit fair for everyone.
why does someone that downloads some software + a ROM deserve priority over someone that has in most cases imported a console + games? wouldn't it be more FAIR for everyone if there was a Console AND Emulator WR? because that's how it is right now. for example....
because emulator is faster it should be like this? Kasumari now has the 1st place spot (which he already had btw if you check his profile or unhide emu with the variable)
And now Console is barely top 10 (it also had a first place spot if emulators are hidden)
it's the same for gamecube but...i think it's obvious the point i'm making.
i appreciate not everyone can afford to import stuff but that doesn't mean the people that do should be worse off than someone downloading software. IF emulator was the only thing keeping this game alive for speed running (which it definitely isn't) then i would understand the point
This wasn't a change that we implemented recently, and when we did implement it we made it clear in a forum post as to why we did it.
"all of this priority over emulator is garbage if that is the way your looking at it then really your just an elitist and just ignorant over such matters its about running the game."
There is no priority over emulator on the Resident Evil 2 Leaderboard. A lot of communities on this website don't accept emulator at all. So just be glad that emulator categories are even a thing for RE. we are far from "elitist" i prefer the terms "Logical and "Fair"
^ Pretty much this but also they are hidden so that an emulator isn't first place by default over an official console having emulators hidden means that on the runners profile it will show both the disc and emulator to have a 1st place spot instead of just the emulator
similar situation on the re2 board, someone split some categories and added an extra sub category without mentioning anything and it seems to be around the same time this change happened on re1, interesting.
Why did someone randomly think it was a good idea to start splitting categories? we already discussed the full game leader board layout in detail in another post and it was agreed by the community that the layout was fine.
Pretty sure i know who did it, i reverted the change because it wasn't even mentioned or discussed.
That's not how things work, it should be a community decision and nothing should be decided and changed based on what one person thinks is best.
Hi,
As some of you already know, we found a bio2 China version about a month ago, myself and dara tested the version and found A LOT of things wrong with it.
For example..
This is a BAT file that is used to start the game.
to start Leon or Claire you have to input either 1 or 2 to start the game. Seems really dodgy and at this point most people will be presented with the same error box as Sourcenext "Failed to initialize Direct X" since no patches exist for this version most people can't even run it.
The installer is the same as the original JPN PC version (and mediakite?) and it's buggy as all hell.
Here are all of the files that we got,
the file called "Biohazard2.reg.fix" from what i can tell is supposed to fix the installer but it gave me an error, although it did work for others.
Texture Bugs
MIssing Ladder...
After lowering the ladder and descending down the ladder it will go back up, But it can still be used.
Plenty more texture bugs but i think these are enough, the ladder is just dumb.
Main Menu
This is the Main Menu screen to the version that we have, another exists that looks exactly the same but has green text instead. Both of these versions look the same (ladder still missing and all of the texture bugs)
Darazanjoll tried out Claire A and it crashes at the Annette cutscene in the lab, from what i remember this also happens in the mediakite version
Text Speed Very slightly faster nothing huge. To be honest it's not even that noticeable.
All of these problems and all we would gain is VERY slightly faster text, it doesn't seem like a version we could ever add to the leader boards and take seriously.
We won't be sharing this version as there is no reason to do so.
the main purpose of this thread is to share information about this version of the game, not to discuss whether it should be on the boards.
The way we did it with RE2 is PS3(Digital download) is merged with PSP because it's the same version of the game. Although they are merged that doesn't mean they are the same category. Just the same version.
PS Category is PS1,2 & 3 on Disc Only.
in the case of RE2 it is faster to run the disc copy of the game on a PS3 rather than the Digital version so making them the same category didn't make sense. (i assume this would be the same for RE3?)
out of all the disc versions the PS2 will be fastest and again being merged with PS1 & 3 Disc versions doesn't make them the same category
That was our logic behind it anyway.
i would consider pause cancel & Rebecca skip to be Minor Glitches
Major Glitches / No Major Glitches are much better category names IMO
New Rule. "runners must now have a moderator present at their house in order to prove they are not using an SRT"
fail to see how SRT compares to a game version, though in all seriousness.
