I'm not the best person to be answering this, but you can wrong warp by transitioning off of screens in directions that you aren't normally able. For example, I think you can use transformations to chain together extra jumps, and then transition at the tops of screens with nothing above them (like the castle).

Iirc, it's difficult to perform and very likely to crash, so I don't know how RTA viable it is anyway.

I'd recommend checking out the TAS, because I'm pretty sure it does it a couple of times.

Nope. It's far too early to consider Switch emulation.

I just stumbled on this and can shed some light.

The issue with this autosplitter is that the memory scan it does is incompatible with r649. It looks like the author just modified one of my scripts, but hasn't bothered to update it. This autosplitter could also easily support other emulators like BGB/Bizhawk, but it looks like he specifically copied the only script of mine that only supports GSR.

Also, adding autosplitters to your layout is fine, but I would generally recommend simply activating them from your split options.

Unfortunately the 3DSVC doesn't seem to emulate the game accurately, so it's not allowed for the leaderboards.

That being said, there's nothing wrong with using it to learn the game or to just do runs for fun. Something to keep in mind, though, is that the VC version is v1.2 whereas we speedrun on v1.0 for most categories. So the run would be fairly different due to less glitches.

Hey sorry for the delay. I've got some time today to look through it and get back to you.

Sure, just make a PR on the repository and I'll give it a look. I should have cleaned it up a long time ago :P

I don't mean for them to share a category; they would still have their own leaderboards. It's just an oraganizational thing.

Here are some examples of sub-categories (pokemon being closer to the situation here): https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnredblue#Any_Glitchless https://www.speedrun.com/ladx#Any

Sorry to double-post.

Another idea for the leaderboards is to make US and JP leaderboards sub-categories under each real category (i.e. having US and JP under a single 'Any% ' tab). Would just help reduce clutter on the page and keep things organized.

Would also be nice on the Quest RPG page ;)

I'm not a runner (yet), but I very much agree with Bing's #5.

I would stay away from non-official hardware for submitting runs, though it would probably be fine if you're just using it for practice.

If you're interested in running the game, you can always do so on PC with an emulator (either BGB or gambatte).

No worries! :) It's always fun looking into these things even if they don't pan out.

Sounds good! I don't know if there's many people who know too much about ACE anymore, but feel free to join our discord if you want to share info or ask for help. The forums aren't super active nowadays. :)

Sounds like 0xDB95 is getting set to 0x00 (opening sequence) instead of 0x01 for the credits sequence. I've never really dug into ACE so I can't help with the "why" unfortunately.

Which emulator are you using? The currently known credits warp for LADX only works with gambatte since it can be inaccurate and is less prone to crashing. So use gambatte if you're trying to recreate the known LADX credit warp, but BGB is your better bet if you're trying to find a console viable warp.

EDIT: Sorry, I just saw you mentioned that you're using gambatte. I've never known of anyone using OpenEmu, but that core does seem to be based on an up-to-date gambatte build.

Yeah, you can get GBPs pretty cheap when you get them without the disc. You'll just need to make sure that you've got what you need to run homebrew on the GC. There's a few options including the SD Media Launcher, a generic SD card adapter, or a softmodded Wii to load GC memory cards with.

And yeah, a standard GC controller is the easiest option; but the dpad on those is hot garbage (mainly the diagonals), and you'd have to get comfortable playing with a joystick. In addition to the Hori pad that Zorlax mentioned, you could also use a GBA as a controller if you've got the cable, or you could look into one of those raphnet SNES-to-GC adapters.

Just a couple of notes to add to the above:

  • Game Boy Interface (GBI) is only for the GameCube, NOT the Wii. It's a homebrew app that lets you use the GBP without its startup disc. If you do decide to check out the GBP, though, definitely give this a look; I think most of us with GBP's use it.
  • While the SGB2 is legal, I'd recommend against using it for LADX. The SGB2 can experience lag when used to play black carts (combo GB/GBC carts) like LADX. The SGB2 is fine for grey carts (GB carts) if you ever decide to run the original LA.

Also if you don't already have hardware to play/stream GB games, don't feel like you need to buy anything right out of the gate. The community is very accepting of emulators (BGB and gambatte).

Feel free to join the community discord too if you have any more questions. (Forums are fine too though :P)

I've replaced the old component autosplitter with a new ASL script.

Changes in this new version:

  • No longer relies on pointers, and should actually work for everyone
  • Added support for BGB 1.5.3 and gambatte-speedrun

If the old version didn't work for you, try this one. If this script still doesn't work for you please let me know! :)

So this component was bad and probably didn't work for anyone. I've just replaced it with an updated ASL script.

Changes in this new version:

  • Syncs LiveSplit's IGT directly with the game's speedrun timer, instead of just load removing.
  • Supports both the Steam and standalone versions (v1.12).
  • Should actually be reliable as it no longer relies on shaky pointers.

I've tested this thoroughly on the PCs available to me and it works great, but if it doesn't work for you please let me know. This script should be 100% reliable and I want to make sure that it is.
