Any timer will do, livesplit is just a preferred option to most if not all speedrunners. All runs are retimed anyways so you don't need a timer, its just good to track your own progress mid-run
I believe livestreaming through YouTube is a valid option for PS4 Share, its been a while since I personally have used it so I'm not entirely sure myself lol. According to PS Support YouTube livestreaming is still supported

If you have a computer, you can invest in a capture card and capture your gameplay to a program like OBS which allows for much longer recordings. Unfortunately like you said PS4 Share only exports a maximum of an hour so there is no suitable workaround for this. You can alternatively stream to Twitch directly from PS4 Share and export a longer vod like that.

From what I know, the only tracker we have is for map progression. The mod team and community is working on a 100% speedrun definition in the discord, you can join to discuss that. Otherwise there is not a clear 100% progress tracker yet
Typically most people buy their newer copies of Sly 1 from ebay or a retro game store or similar. Little scratches and scuffs should not affect gameplay unless there is significant scratches on the disc. In regards to the cutscene freezes, the ruleset allows for you to pre-make a file that skips those cinematics for the run, see guide here
Jailbreaking your console isnt allowed unless it is for region-unlocking your PS2, and emulating the game would require a disc (to play off of, or to create an iso) anyways.

There is already an in-game timer integrated with the LiveSplit autosplitter, you can configure that by setting livesplit's game name to Sonic Frontiers and Enabling the autosplitter
From what I've been reading in the Frontiers discord, boosting in Frontiers simply multiplies your speed. I'm not sure if its known or faster exactly, if you post in #science in the Frontiers discord you may be able to know for sure
Hey, feel free to join the discord server. We are discussing a lot about the speedrun for Frontiers in there including individual island speedruns. From the outside understanding there may be plans for Island-specific speedruns from the mod team however we are just waiting for the 2-week embargo to finish until we see any leaderboard progress
Hello everyone, this post is put in place to alert everyone about a minor leaderboard change. The 1,000 Mass and 10,000 Mass categories have been renamed to 1,000 Score and 10,000 Score. The timing definition has always been based on the score rather than the mass of your cell (which is a seperate counter), so the category name has been updated as such to better reflect the category itself.
This is a pretty minor change and doesn't fundamentally change anything, which is why this is just in a little forum post instead of a News post. Thank you all for reading
If you submit your runs under the PSNow platform (and the hard drive submitted based on your system's hard drive), you will be totally fine to submit a run on the leaderboards. Though it is not the fastest version, it is still allowed for the leaderboards as its an official means to play the game(s).
Since this thread was brought up again recently i guess I'll chime my input in on this and say that ILs on this site are still being worked on or are on indefinite hold or something.
Most IL times are submitted through The Sonic Centre, found at https://www.soniccenter.org/ though honestly good luck navigating this ancient website and submitting an IL on it. A better and more modern medium (i.e. this site) for hosting ILs would probably be very beneficial, but from what I can tell its still just being tossed up for mod debate for whatever reason
