A request should include the ruleset and a link to an existing run.

I'll just say that I did verify runs this month in category extensions and lost levels, but we want to have the same mods on 1/ce/tll/ann. I also used to do most verifications and other work back when this leaderboard was new and even before by compiling the best runs on other sites. I was almost the dictator and added mods and made up rules and categories as I saw fit. Obviously this is not the ideal situation so I added other top runners like darbian, Kosmic and somewes because I believe their input should be valued and it's not just 1 guy and the guys he added arbitrarily running the show. Putting nickj as worthless is unfair. He did a lot of verifications and other work some time ago. I don't know how it looks recently though. Well over the last few years my interest has waned a lot and I don't even know all the top runners or other important community members anymore. I thought about removing my mod status but it's not like that would speed things up. And I don't see other mods who don't verify much as a problem either besides that the long list might give a false impression. On getting more mods: As I said back then I would have just added some arbitrarily and then kept them or removed them depending on their performance, but it's a group decision now. Actually I was not involved in the last addition of mods besides the vote. The problem with the removed mods was that they got added by 1 super mod without any notice, which we thought we should undo out of principle, and that one of them verified a cheated run immediately, although I don't believe that should block someone from being mod forever (I've verified at least 2 cheated runs myself. ?). Well since as I said my interest waned a lot I'm not really the ideal person to suggest which mods to add anymore. The last 3 added mods got randomly messaged and asked if they want to be mods, so I wouldn't be so hard on them for lack of motivation. I think there should be some way to apply so we know who is even interested and so we can add enough people to actually get the verifications done quickly without 2 people doing the majority of the work.

You are correct. I took the earlier cycle without checking if the run length matches. ?

My view was always that FDS-only tricks should only be allowed in categories that are explicitly for FDS or allow FDS explicitly in the rules, but it doesn't seem to be written anywhere.

Hold on. "We don't accept Flash Games anymore" Is that the actual policy?

GermanySaradoc6 years ago

Nice. I also think it should be a seperate category (but maybe add it only after a run exists).

1 firework loses 2 frames and you need to lose at least 1 frame to avoid it and it never saves a framerule.

It's allowed, but you have to set displayXpos = false; and displayFrameruleCounter = false; in the script, since that information is considered an unfair advantage.

How to record input files:

FCEUX: Config -> Map Hotkeys -> Bind "Record Movie To" to a button to change save location from the default: Config -> Directories -> Set Movies to a folder

Now press the hotkey to start recording. You can keep recording for a while including resets or you can use the movie hotkey as an alternative reset key. FCEUX will keep numbering the filenames.

Bizhawk: Config -> Hotkeys -> Movie -> Bind "Record Movie" to a button to change save location from the default: Config -> Paths -> Global -> Set Movies to a folder

I don't recommend using the recording key as an alternative reset key for Bizhawk, because Bizhawk does not number the files and you might accidentally overwrite a PB movie.

Don't have Nestopia installed atm, but the process is similiar.

@Tecate Is there a specific reason you want to use OpenEmu? It seems to me to be just inferior to running FCEUX (via WINE if on Linux/MAX) (or Nestopia, but I haven't tested that on WINE).

@tomyancy: What is the issue? It works fine for me.

I get asked all the time why I hold Up and it's just that I make very sure not to press Down, which does slow you down.

Are you talking about SNES? The framerule in the SNES version applies on titlescreen + 1-1 in its entirety and also after taking a warp or continuing after 8-4 the framerule doesn't apply.

So titlescreen + 1-1 1-2 warp + 4-1 5-2 warp + 8-1 8-4 + 9+1 all share a framerule together.

For titlescreen + 1-1 this means you can try adjusting when you press Start to save a bit of time over starting randomly, if you play consistently enough, but for most players it doesn't matter and they just land at some random point in the framerule depending on when they pressed Start.

You are not allowed to post ROMs on this site. This is not the mod's decision, but Pac's/Nintendo's.

EDIT: To find the ROM I recommend looking for complete FDS sets.

"And the games run a little different." They're almost identical copies.

I think SMB1 runs should be on the SMB1 board. This would just unnecessarily divide the community over 2 boards.

Any argument for why?

There isn't even a run submitted for Air and it has 7 mods because they automatically got assigned to romhacks back then. It's pretty weird you single that one out.

When millisecondss aren't shown, they just get cut off. When milliseconds are shown, they get rounded to the nearest millisecond. I know it's inconsistent and basically only done that way because that's how it's been for a long time and maybe we should switch to always rounding down.
