As I said, the rewards (tank, scrolling text + music, etc.) are just indicators that you won, same for the IRL trophy on the table.

There may be legal ways to obtain the prize (glitching the door of the tank, giving a large sum of money to the actual winner of the race and buying their trophy). One can also roll the credits, or have an interview with the local sports network before actually finishing. This doesnt mean they beat the game/won the race.

One could also glitch the tankspawn and prevent it from spawning, or they could trip after finishing and knock over the trophy and have it shatter into a million pieces. This still means they beat the game/won the race, despite having nothing to show for it.

I still say marking suburban as passed is the best technical definition of any%, used interchangeably with shooting down catalina, picking up maria, and fading into the cutscene (both are valid definitions imo, and as I said I dont see why only one of them needs to be used). If a glitch is found that does stuff and it does not meet either of these criteria, I wouldn't call it having beat the game.

edit: I agree on rephrasing it, was gonna give it a mention but I didn't think it was relevant to the poll.

Here's another run that triggers both the credits AND the "you finished the game, congratulations" screen early, but it clearly doesn't count as beating the game. (59 seconds into the run)

Credits are meaningless without context. The goal of a game is not to reach the credits, it is to get to the end of the game (which is usually accompanied by credits, but not always.) In gta3 this is The Exchange; it wraps up the storyline, it is the final mission in a chain of missions, it sets certain variables to 'true' and it rolls music + credits. All these are INDICATORS that you have beaten the final mission and thus the game, and do not themselves mean having beat the game.

It is clear that The Exchange signifies the end of the game, therefore: Passing The Exchange == Beating the game.

The only question is, what does 'passing the exchange' mean? It is quite obvious that if you instapass it like blowfish and mark the mission as completed, it is passed and thus the game has been beat. Rolling credits during Liberator does not seem to instapass The Exchange.

Other people would say 'start the final cutscene that incidentally also shows credits' counts as having passed the mission. Heck, this is the definition that's been used for 14 years now, and its a fair enough definition.

So there are multiple definitions of 'passing The Exchange', and I don't see a reason to pick one over the other for the any% definition. Both definitions work, just achieve whichever you want. However, merely rolling credits during Liberator, which does nothing other than print text on the screen, is not one of those definitions. It doesn't mark The Exchange as complete, it doesn't roll the cutscene, and you can still do The Exchange afterwards and roll the credits again.

This is going to be a trial to see if people will do it.

One poll question:

Lets say it is faster to dupe an asset anyway, do Cap The Collector, and then do the 7th asset after having done Cap The Collector already. Would this be allowed or not?

I personally don't care, so I abstain from voting on this.

NG+ Any% was a thing for Vice City?

So basically the game has two different flags for passing suburban, which IMO is congruent with passing the entire storyline (any%). It seems like a good definition should some kind of skip for killing Catalina be found.
it will lose its "traditional" relevance pretty quickly.
AM never really had relevance to 100% anyways, since 100% is a lot more than simply doing missions. Runs like "all hidden packages" or "All USJ" are a lot more relevant to 100% practice than "All Missions" is IMO. (Or you can do 92% , which is a pretty short run but gives you almost all the hundo practice one needs.)

All Missions is exactly what it says on the can: All Missions. Most people who run AM don't do so because of 100%, they do so because of All Missions.
## In-game 100% NG+ ##
IMO a category becomes worthy of having leaderboards when multiple people do runs of it. It took the longest amount of time for "All USJ" to become a category on the vice city leaderboards, because nobody but overcooler actually did runs of it (unlike All Robberies or All Packages). Seeing as in VC more than 1 people actually did runs for it, I think its acceptable to have for VC. I'd be fine with removing it from the GTA3 boards, but since its already there bleh, why not keep it. I think Gael is persuasive enough to make other people do GTA3 IG hundo NG+ to compete with him. Just keep in mind for adding future categories that they actually need to be competitive. I personally think NG+ is stupid, but if that's what the majority will run for IG100%, then that's what it shall be. (basing this off of VC here, IDK about GTA3)
Definition of Any%
I looked up the code for GTASA as it was potentially possible to skip the final mission, and there is a variable in the final mission code that gets set at the end which basically means "storyline progression".

Quickly dove into the SCM for gta3 to look for something similar to what SA does, and there's this in CAT1_6818: 034C: shoreside_complete This doesnt actually do anything from what I've googled, but hitting this seems like a good definition for any% (similar to how 100% requires hitting all 030C). It occurs after the credits in The Exchange though. I'd say for the sake of what we've been doing in the past just end the run as the final cutscene starts, but if someone were to hypothetically find a way to instapass The Exchange, Id think this would be a good definition for any%.

Also in CAT1_6818: 0004: $FLAG_ALL_MISSIONS_DONE = 1 Obviously this flag doesn't mean what it says (since it will be set regardless of whether you did Marked Man, Love's Disappearance, Fuzz Ball etc.), but from looking at the context it seems like it means "storyline completed". Someone look up what this is called in the code left in the mobile version, it might be an even better definition than 034C.

Who needs the checklist anyways

Friesland, NetherlandsS.9 years ago

This isn't really any more tool assisted than Lighnat0r's checklist tool is. Heck, it may even be less TAS-like since it doesn't hook into the game's memory addresses directly and in real time.

It is less fun though, but then again so is using Lighnat0r's tool so I don't see the difference.

Any run that is run a lot and is taken serious enough can be considered a main category. The notion "any% and 100% are the only main categories" is SDA bullshit (along with low%, which is SDA bullshitting on its bullshit). Hence why 16-star is a valid ShitMario64 category, despite not being any% (ignoring Pete's remark, which is correct.), and why inbounds runs are a valid category in Portal.

All robberies is being run more than All Missions I think, but it is not taken nearly as serious by its runners as AM seems to be by some of its runners. So All Robberies remains a misc category.

Friesland, NetherlandsS.9 years ago

lighnat0r just said that VC AM already is equal to III AM

I'm fine with keeping AM a main category, its a good mid point between any% and 100% and people seem to respect the category. But if its misc, fine.
