I'd love to join the commentary couch or host for any of the following games if the runners will have me:
Land of Illusion Ninja Gaiden SMS Castle of Illusion Alex Kidd SWAT 4 Dragon's Crown FFXIII Another World FFIX Sonic CD
Regarding my own runs, anybody is welcome even if you don't know that much about Batman or Wizkid, just let me know if you want to join :)
FFIX Dance: Very HYPED for this. I actually know irish dancing so if anybody wants some pointers we can at least make it semi-pro :)
Batman: Arkham Asylum: There are several incentives I can add.
- Difficulty Bidding War: Easy vs. Hard. My estimate assumes I'll be playing Hard Mode. Easy mode is 10 minutes quicker than hard because the goons go down with 2 hits each and I can bullet-sponge my way through the predator rooms, allow Bane/Titans to plow through me with no consequences, etc. The glitches and route are actually identical.
2)Party Pooper. Always a popular one - at the end of the game there are 20 Joker goons in party hats cheering your entrance. There's an in-game achievement for beating them all up. Medium incentive, takes about a minute.
- Ivy's secret. In the run I trigger the Ivy cutscene after she escapes from her cell. This leads to a hilarious cutscene which normally gets skipped (because, y'know, speedruns) but for a low incentive I can let it play. Adds about 30 seconds to the run.
Example here:
Wizkid has a Language Bidding war: English vs. French vs. German
As an incentive, there's also an optional introduction with an abridged version of the 1812 overture in true Sensible Software Style. Takes one minute, low incentive. Can be played before or after the speedrun (preferably before)
The only video I could find with it also has a lot of me typing in the background, so sorry about that (but you get the idea):
The Wizkid run estimate can be reduced to 40 minutes. My recent practice runs have all been around the 35 minute mark so even including time for the 1812 overture and the ending sequence (1 minute each) we should be fine. I notice that there are a few magneta times around my run if you want to distribute the extra 10 minutes :D
Those of you with limited schedules or if you're running/commentating during the Live Finals: we will try to work something out if we know about it in advance. It might get messy but we'll try to accommodate :)
And yes, you don't have to enter if you submit games, and you don't have to submit games to enter. Obviously I hope that you will do both, but it's not required ;)

ESA 2015 Mystery Tournament – Interest Thread
What is this? I will be running two mystery tournaments at ESA – a speedrun tournament and a vs. tournament. Chucat has agreed to lend a hand and I'll be happy to accept assistance from anyone else who wants to offer it.
The Mystery Game Tournaments will use the double elimination structure, and the intention is to play the final rounds on the yellow stream. I may combine these tournaments into one big competition depending on numbers and available time to broadcast the finals on stream.
Similar to the #mystery tournaments on SRL and Chucat’s tournament at last year’s ESA, in each round you and your opponent will be given a game and immediately you will race to a certain goal, or play a vs. match without having the chance to practice first. Players may encounter games they've played before, seen before, or may have never even heard of. The competitions are designed to determine not just who has the most gaming experience, but the best overall gaming abilities.
Do I sign up here?
This is NOT an official sign-up thread so if you register interest here you aren’t committing to the tournaments; sign-ups will happen at ESA itself. But if you are interested in taking part please let me know in this thread so that I have an idea of numbers.
I would also be interested in hearing suggestions of games we could play. As this is a mystery tournament if you do submit a game please __do not tell anyone what it is __as that will ruin the “mystery” part!
To suggest a game please fill in this form.
As an example of what could work as a suggestion:
Name: RoboSparkle Game: Shaq Fu System: Genesis Can you bring a copy to ESA? Yes Will you bring the console to ESA? No **Suggested Goal: **vs. match – best of 3 **Likely Duration (ignore setup): **10 minutes **Comments: **It’s very much a meme game at this point and while most attendees will have seen/played it before due to previous appearances at GDQs and ESAs, nobody actually practices this game so we can still be assured of a pretty even match and it would work great in the live finals as well! **Video: **
Note: It's extremely likely that someone will set up an impromptu Shaq Fu tournament at ESA so we/re not having it in the mystery tournament. This was just an example ;)
I have Supermunchkins and some booster packs from other Munchkin sets, which I bring with me every year; this year will be no different :)
I improved my PBs of all my submitted games (Arkham Asylum, Alien Breed and Wizkid) and I feel confident in reducing the estimates of Alien Breed and Wizkid to 20 minutes and 40 minutes respectively.
