If you guys are going to look at this user's 80 round run, then I think you should also look at his 10 round and 30 round runs as well.

I think if we were to accept B-type speedrunning, it would be full categories, like 100 Lines or 100 Lines, Level 0 Start.

We would have to figure out what rules we would enforce on these types of speedruns, and to be honest, I'm not sure how we can enforce the run to eventually become anything unique that would be different than A-type speedrunning.

The issue I have with this is that B-Type only adds garbage at the beginning of the run, but once you clear it, there's nothing that makes more garbage appear, so in that instance, it essentially becomes the same as an A-type speedrun.

I can definitely see the appeal of a 9-5 category, but I'm just not sure how many people would want to play it. If you can show that at least 10 or more people would want to run this category, I'd be more inclined to confer with the other moderators to see about adding it, but seeing as hardly anyone has responded to this post in 8 months' time, I don't think there'd be enough interest in the category to add it at this point in time.

Category Change:

Due to it having no activity since the category has been created, the VIRUS BUSTER NORMAL 0-99 category has been removed.

If you disagree with this change, please feel free to start a new thread and/or send me a private message.

Yes, you can use the mistake to guess a cell, though I wouldn't want to do it myself.

I'd like to appeal to the community at large if they have any ideas for any new categories that could be added to the leaderboards. Please note that I'm more looking for runs that would fall under the Miscellaneous run or runs that have odd or interesting goals.

The moderators will go through and decide which ones will be added.

Thanks again and we are looking forward to see what ideas you guys come up with!

I've gone ahead and made the two 50 Level runs Miscellaneous runs because of the length. If no runs are submitted to the 50 Infinite Levels category by 4/1/21, I'll be deleting that category, if the other mods are in agreement.

Given that using a touchscreen in addition to a mouse would give an unfair advantage over those that only use a mouse, I believe that mouse only is the only allowable control scheme one can use for this game.

Look to our rules for the categories for which emulators are allowed:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1apP69VDIzUx-iVO_sj5YjTxBAE2ukHPa6kl33AOW9hA/edit

More specifically, this: "Mesen, Bizhawk/NEShawk, puNES, Nestopia and FCEUX are the most acceptable emulators, listed in order of accuracy, most other emulators are not accepted. Retroarch should not be used."

That should answer your question.

Unfortunately, any smartphone emulators will not be allowed.

@WilyTheDr

This category can now be done! Please read the category rules before you attempt it!

Ruling change:

The Do Not Scare Me option can be used in any and all future speedruns. This does not work retroactively! This means that if you did a run before today's ruling change, your run will not be retimed.

Moderation change:

After talking privately with Monsterracer , it was mutually decided that he would be stepping down as a moderato as of today due to not playing the game any longer.

Please give him a big round of applause for all the work he's done for the DemonCrawl speedrunning community over the past half a year or so!

Please also join me in welcoming Pinballwiz45b to our moderation team!

The only reason I deleted them is because of what other people have said above (memorization is literally all you have to do to get good at them), and also because they've had 0 activity since I've been a part of this community.

Ruling Change:

Special chests are allowed in every category. This might change in the future depending upon how unbalanced it makes the speedrun in terms of Scout vs. Spy/Snowflake, though.

Furthermore, this rule will not show up in the rules pages of any of the categories because it is implied.

Yeah, I don't see any reason to keep the 100 Levels categories.

By the way, I've already deleted Any%, 100%, and 500 Levels No Reset.

As it stands right now, I think keep every category that's here except the 100 Levels categories, and that would be good.

Wisconsin, USARazorflame4 years ago

To be honest, the way they are set up now, I don't consider it to be much bloat, but in my opinion, I'd keep 50 over 100.

And I would also keep 10.

Category Change:

Due to lack of interest and runs in the Classic 0-99 category, this category has now been changed to a miscellaneous category.

If you disagree with this change, please feel free to start a new thread and/or send me a private message.

I'd probably also say that this should be done with the All Squad% as well because this is where the most time would be saved because of this discovery, though I know it would be a lot of work to do so.
