@MicroElf If the runner can run the game and LiveSplit on the same computer it's entirely automated. The only problem to worry about are the different versions since they don't all share the same memory mappings. Otherwise it's really easy to use.
And when are you getting the discord server? We got over 100 peeps now.
#1) I'd do both, honestly, though I'm also someone who tries to keep track of more things than necessary.
When making the timing methods for Command & Conquer I ran into problems with both real and game time. Real time is generally the best method, but since this a PC game, load times can vary and be potentially unfair. Game time would have been the seemed to be the obvious choice, but then saving and reloading screws up the final time. Banning S&L is unfair and extremely punishing to those learning the game. I eventually settled with using a custom method: Real time minus the times between missions. This keeps track of the actually relevant parts of the run, including the saving and loading, without compromising the timer. I have my old Battle.net account back so I can make an auto-splitter to do this automatically like I have with a few C&C games already, and I'd offer to manually time everything that's been submitted thus far.
#2) While file manipulation is a dangerous thing to allow, it's apparent Blizzard's video files cause more problems than their worth and even risk killing a run, so deleting them seems like a fair decision.
#3) IIRC you can ignore the prologue and go straight into the Human campaign. While it is canonical to the story, it just serves as a tutorial for new players and can be rather annoying to keep dealing with in a full run. I'm not completely against it though.
I'm good with my time slot. If you need to accommodate runners I can be moved to an earlier time.
There's a discord channel for Real-Time Strategy speedrunning: https://discord.gg/dy3GRjw
I agree with a general "Mario" series. "Super Mario" refers to the main series of Mario platformers while the entire franchise is often referred to as Mario.
Dawn of the Tiberium Age is a modification of Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun.
It can be activated in LiveSplit in the Splits Editor. Settings are available one it's activated.
Automatic start, stop, and reset are available for all categories. Auto-splits are available for Any% and 130 Star. If you plan on running Any%, I'll update it for the latest route. For 130 star, it'll automatically split once a level has all its stars; the other levels will still need manual splitting until I can know what the best route is.
Generally having a completed run will ensure a leaderboard being added.
@Konasumi You make really good use of the space around the game. Widescreen games make good layouts difficult. @PreFiXAUT Lots of dead space on the bottom and the chat doesn't blend in well. Maybe center the game more? Otherwise works well. Like the input display. @biskuit I can't tell if that's serious compression or improper scaling. If sources are properly scaled they can look very crisp. LiveSplit layout can be improved, especially by removing the gif. Simplicity is nice though. @howdenking Like the one above too much empty space on the bottom. Try filling it out some like Konasumi does. Put some contact information and such. Besides that it looks great. @Yoshipro101 Is that rescaled? If you're going to be near that resolution use 1440x810 instead. Otherwise good because you know to keep the game on the right side of the screen.
Now here's mine:
I'm a stickler for proper scaling. Results in really good compression for the bitrate and a crispy look. It doesn't help a lot for analog feeds though. LiveSplit timer font made by myself. Notifications are all on the left side of the screen so nothing EVER interrupts the game video; I hate it when layouts do that. I'll be changing things around once I have a webcam. No widescreen setup yet.
Cleaned up code so it's much easier to read.
Edit: Okay, it has settings now so please start using it.
If there's actual interest in this, I can write something that can record IL times during a run.
I can get the auto-splitter to save the in-game time lost from a game over.
100% doesn't exist FrankerZ It works. If you think it's a problem, make a pull request. I'll remove the other splits for now.
Activate it under 'Edit Splits...'. Report any problems with it here.
In-game time is tracked in LiveSplit so you can optionally watch that instead. Auto-starts on touching the file door (should be on reset . . .) Auto-resets for Any% but not any other category right now. If resetting isn't at all viable, I'll make it work for the others as well. For Any%, there's 11 auto-splits: • Coconut Clip (enter BFC) • Bowser's Fiery Castle (begin Bowser fight) • Bowser (exit level with key) • Cannon Skip (enter Shadow Factory) • Shadow Factory (get trapped in with Shadow Mario) • Shadow Mario (exit level with key) • RMC Clip (enter Rashay's Moon Cellar) • Rashay's Moon Cellar (enter Rashay's area) • Rashay Phase One (music changes to Phase Two) • Rashay Phase Two (Final hit on Rashay) • End (once the screen is totally black after the last peach message)
All other categories only auto-split when a world has all their stars and at the final splash screen.
Here's the code for it: https://github.com/ROMaster2/LiveSplit.AutoSplitters/blob/master/LiveSplit.SM64LI.asl
It's also easy to write an auto-splitter starting from reset. Slow resets aren't an issue at all.
I agree with Jumpyluff on removing it. Unless people submit runs to it, or a mod is willing to re-time the 150 runs to stop at 149 and add those, there's no point in it being there.
Usually when campaigns have continuity with each other, like Warcraft and StarCraft, there's a whole game category, otherwise they're treated separately. Real time strategies usually don't have something close to 100%.
On a side note, there's an RTS Speedrunning Discord server, if you're interested: https://discord.gg/dy3GRjw
