I tested this a bit ago, but the walkmesh triangles behind the guards are all turned off at that point, so even if you could get past the guards, you can't reach the loading zone to get to the next screen.

You realize NMS is and has been a category for a while, right? "New guy" is not a mod, it's dean0. Your claims are exactly that, claims, not evidence. All I see is text from you in here which isn't actual evidence. If you want to prove something, that onus is on you, not me.

Anyway, the first post of this thread and this last one tells me all I really need to know about this, so I'm locking this thread. If you actually want to have a discussion about stuff, you can message us about it.

These "facts" you claim are hardly facts at all. Snowboarding didn't just appear. There was discussion in the discord about adding it, and no one was against it except when Ptown wanted to stir shit up.

Mods did not make the FF7 WR history video. Personally, I was asked if footage of mine could be used and I said yes; that was the extent of my involvement in the process. If you have such a huge issue with that video, the mods aren't the people to be directing your complaints to about it.

I legitimately want to know why you think the mod team is corrupt. What actual evidence do you have that supports such a claim? Whenever we've made changes to the leaderboards since I've been here, we've always had discussions between us and the community and we haven't done something like toss out the community's choice and say "this is how things are because we feel like it", so I'm really curious what your evidence of corruption is.

If mods can't be trusted to verify their own runs, why would they be a moderator in the first place? I personally don't like self-verification myself, but it shouldn't be some huge cause for alarm if people do it.

Why should "sonic discs" get banned? They are official hardware and since we've narrowed down which discs are fast, it's not even an issue of wondering why people are saving/losing time to loads. If you don't want to play on hardware, there is emulator, PC, or HD consoles you can play on (HD consoles likely have their own issues with various speed differences between consoles).

Overall, your posts are very inflammatory and they honestly just seem like you are trying to continue the misinformation/accusations/drama that we put a stop to with Ptown; they barely provide any substance and are filled with "he said, she said" kind of stuff, in my opinion.

You seem to be really hung up on the FF7 WR history video, which Luz was very critical of (which is fine), but like I said, why are you directing your issues with it to the mods here as we didn't make that video? We moderate the leaderboards and the discord, that is all. If someone makes a video about FF7 speedruns, saying whatever they want, how is that our responsibility?

Also, I know Luz says MC has WR over Zheal because of load time differences, but how do you know the exact same RNG would've happened in MC's run if he had the fast loads? You can't say that, because the load times actually affect the battle RNG as the global frame counter is incrementing during load times, so they are, in fact, part of the run itself.

I'll likely be locking this thread soon as it seems like a lot of going in circles, but I'll leave it open for now for actual productive responses.

I heard about this a little bit ago. Seems we'll have to decide on a different setup for Digital runs. Probably standalone Duckstation would make the most sense, but we'll see. If you have Discord, you should join this server as it's easier to communicate everything there: https://discord.gg/cYavTQWVTU

You could look for an auto key clicker type program to use with keyboard for turbo.

CanadaRJTheDestroyer2 years ago

I haven't noticed less people running since turbo was allowed.

I haven't tested it yet in a run to see if my FPS drops a lot while using turbo, but I know it can/does if mashing fast, so turbo might actually lose time compared to mashing in PC runs (not 100% sure on that point though).

I personally don't see a negative to allowing it, but we'll have to see how turbo runs compare to non-turbo.

I can agree about the point on people that don't run voting for it, but then again, who says they won't run it eventually and having turbo allowed may be what causes them to run. But yeah, maybe there should be a vote from only current/former runners (or at least their vote should count for more or something compared to non-runners).

Overall though, I wouldn't say allowing turbo has killed the categories for non-turbo runners, as there's only been 1 submitted turbo run so far and many more non-turbo runs since it was allowed.

For the PSX version on a PS2, the IGT seconds you want to close your menu at and enter Bone Village are 12, 28, 44, or 56 (don't do it right as it switches to that second, but a tiny bit after). Then you just run up and talk to the guy to dig for the Lunar Harp and mash through the 3 textboxes. The "Stone" value that you want to set to 49 is done so when closing the 3rd textbox to start the digging process. My understanding is the actual IGT that you are trying to hit when starting the digging process is ~7 seconds after the IGT you close the menu at, so on PC and its ports, I'm guessing the IGT to enter Bone Village would be ~2 seconds later (so 14, 30, 46, or 58), but I haven't tested this (just basing it off the difference between the versions for the Mayor Password earlier in the run).

In Cosmo Canyon, you count 3 rotations of the satellite dish and then run inside Bugenhagen's Observatory, but during this time, if the wind dial moves, you have to start counting from 1 again until you get to 3 rotations of the satellite dish without the wind dial moving. Hype_gh0st told me to wait ~1 second after counting the 3rd rotation because sometimes the wind dial will still move a bit after counting the 3rd rotation. After counting 3 rotations without the wind dial moving, you have ~10 seconds to run inside before the "List" value (field RNG value) changes to something different.

The last part of the manip is when you leave Cosmo Canyon and go to the City of the Ancients, but it's not so much a manip here as it is just having good movement and mashing at certain points/screens (if you're too slow, the manip will fail). You also need to have good movement in the Northern Cave at the end (on the screens where field RNG advances), and depending on how well you did the City of the Ancients, you'll either have more or less room for error in the Northern Cave.

I think that basically sums it up, but if anyone has anything else to add (or if I am wrong about something), please say so.

I checked your most recent twitch vod and you definitely don't want to be mixing setups together. You have to follow 1 specific setup fully (Reactor + Sewers before Aps). Also, the setups are very precise, so don't try rushing through them or you will miss the pre-emptive Aps fight by a little bit. Use the bonks on walls and such to make sure you are wasting enough steps (running/walking earlier than intended will break the setup).

The setup I would use for the PS4 version is this:

Reactor Setup:

  • After freeing Jessie, force encounter after the gap (which you do)
  • Walk Left off screen
  • Run Right until you bonk at the end
  • Release all buttons
  • Press L1 + Up to Walk until stopped
  • Add O + Left (so it would be L1 + O + Up + Left all together now)
  • After getting around the corner at the next staircase, switch from Up-Left to Up-Right (while holding everything else) to run into the elevator
  • Run Left and mash Confirm to talk to Jessie
  • Run Down and mash Confirm to talk to Biggs
  • Run Down until past the doorway, then add R1 while Running Down (if you bonk on the railing, just let go of R1 for a split second to get around it, but you want to stay close to the railing while exiting the Reactor)

Sewers Setup:

  • While falling, hold O + Down + Right and talk to Tifa once you bonk on her
  • While clearing the dialogue, hold O + Up + Left until bonking on the wall
  • Release O (to Walk a little bit)
  • Add O and Release Up (so it should just be O + Left) until you bonk on the wall
  • Switch from Left to Right (so O + Right) until bonking Aerith, then talk to her to start Aps fight

If you followed all that correctly, it should work, but you have to follow it exactly from the forced fight in the Reactor up to Aps or else it won't work (any deviations in movement from what I wrote will likely break the setup completely). And like I said, don't combine different setups with each other; just choose one and use it for Reactor + Sewers.

Hope this helps!

It's a glitch that just saves some time in Northern Crater when you decide which way the party will go (not sure how much it saves, but somewhere around 30 seconds maybe?). You basically "use" the Save Crystal as you're grabbing one of the stalactite/ladder things and wait for the text box to glitch out before saying 'No' when it asks if you want to use the Crystal. Then you pick which way the party will go and can then just run off the screen to advance the game without waiting for everyone to talk and run off.

I know on 3x speed at least, the PS4 runs faster on field screens compared to the Xbox One version (or at least my regular PS4 is faster than my Xbox One X on those screens). I'm not sure if that is also true for normal speed and I have no idea about the Switch version for the same screens, but there very well could be some difference there. Other than that, they should all be the same for the most part. I think the Save Crystal glitch was patched on PS4 somewhat recently, but don't know if that was the case on the Xbox/Switch versions.

This is the best guide for that category at the moment (there is a google doc link between the videos in there to the written guide): https://www.speedrun.com/ff7/guide/549d4

Also, here is the guide for setting up the 30 FPS cap with links for the downloads: https://www.speedrun.com/ff7/guide/5m4jc

I think most people use LiveSplit for doing splits (it's what I use as well).

Best of luck learning the run and hope this helps!

Yes, what fhelwanger said is the case. The 1st set of results you have listed are correct for the PC/PS4/Xbox/Switch versions of the game. The 2nd set of results are for the PSX version. The difference, as he said, is due to the time it takes to load to the next floor.
