This looks to my untrained eyes like some sort of duplication glitch, which would be allowed in that category, which allows for glitches. The main difference between glitches and cheating is that glitches can be done without any external tools, meaning if you were skilled enough, you could do the same thing.

If you want a more specific answer, you might want to ask in the leaderboard's forum or Discord.

Your video might also be improved if you don't change the aspect resolution of your feed.

There's lots of capture cards out there, Elgato is a popular brand. Cards can get expensive, however.

@NoisyVetle Depends on how you set things up. You can select options such that LiveSplit is always on top of the screen (at least, if you don't play in fullscreen - I don't quite know the details).

I would recommend making a different post for your questions.

@Oreo321 Actually, it seems this user is playing Super Mario World's GBA port, which is a separate game titled Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World. The appropriate forum would be here.

The category's clearly just to have a little fun and only has two runners, I don't see the harm. Especially when there's an actual game attached.

Since many games have important distinction between subcategory variables, it would be nice to make two changes:

  1. When clicking the "Submit Run" button while browsing the leaderboard for a non-default subcategory, have said subcategory be already selected in the run submission form, instead of the default subcategory as present behavior is. Without knowing how this works, runners may not notice that the selected subcategory has changed, leading to inaccurate submissions.

  2. Likewise, after submitting a run submission form for a non-default subcategory, return the user to that non-default subcategory leaderboard, not the default subcategory leaderboard.

Both of these changes, if possible, just make sense.

This answer will vary based on the community for the game you are playing, but generally a timer is not required.

@CriscoWild The requirements detail pending runs, not verified runs. Makes the problem moot in most cases.

This is a question which has an answer that varies by each community. There's good arguments for each, it's really just up to preference. If you prefer having a record of all runs, despite some not being accessible after time, keep all runs. If you want the transparency of anyone being able to look at and inspect runs, toss out removed runs. Personally, I like to follow the wise words of @Pac: "no vid no did."

@FootFartRP For...hopefully obvious reasons, this won't be allowed on the site. I'd consider doing something actually useful with your time.

United StatesQuivico5 years ago

Don't bother with this method, it's not worth your time. Instead, just point a different camera at the screen you are playing on. Most games will accept this as valid video proof (when in doubt, ask the game's moderators or check the game's rules).

@Bluely did, as seen if one checks out the first pinned post on this subforum.

It'd still be a game running on mobile. I see no reason why it generally wouldn't be allowed, but do check with your specific game.

Welcome! Every game's community is going to do things differently, but trimming your recording is generally a good idea. Just make sure not to cut off the start or end of the run.

Check out @Daravae 's unofficial guide on setting up leaderboards. In short, you need to create variables and then select the option to use them as sub-categories.

The cartridges should be identical to the best of my knowledge, but keep in mind that PAL games won't be Identical to their NTSC counterparts. SMB1 seems relatively close, but the vast majority of runs on the leaderboard are still performed with NTSC setups.

@Oreo321 Delete the period from the end of the link. Demo is referring to a playback file which captures game inputs (think Quake).

I'm not familiar with the software or game at all, but looking at the OoB WR, combining these files may not be necessary. Consider asking on the game's forum or Discord.
