I saw your submission for it, let me do a bit of checking on the demo, but probably could include it in an IL if its similar. Will let you know.

Thanks. :)

It has been a category that has been considered in the past. Main reason it isn't added right now is because very few people run any% due to the length which soul emblems is obviously going to be longer. But if there are runs of it then there isn't a problem with it being added.

Texas, USAOh_Snap1 year ago

Would need to look at 100% definitions first, I know there was discussions around it when the game came out, but those are lost in older discord server. In general if you have a run that you are interested in doing you can either drop a link to it in the discord server, or if you are unable to use discord for whatever reason you can just submit it under any category and give an explanation of the run in the comments and I can take a look at it and see.

The reason for that which was discussed when they were released is again minigame skip removes gameplay meaning you do not need to ever do what is being skipped. Multiple homepoint if used which when released and still exists the possibility that it may not be faster, does not remove any of the game as you need to reach said homepoint to set it. It was seen as more of a QoL of the game, the developer of this game has stated that they believe in keeping the original game the same as much as possible, so most QoL features will probably end up as a toggle option if more release as well. Which when released was early enough that it was originally decided that we can just take the QoL update and allow it.

This is a quick poll that is also in the discord, but putting it on the forums as well. As with any poll or opinion based discussion please be respectful of other people's opinions. Feel free to discuss or just out a 1 or a 2. Please choose to vote on discord or here, if you end up voting on both I'll still count it as a vote for one. I think either of these options set ourselves up relatively fine assuming no crazy options get added in future versions.

Option 1) Removing unrestricted and putting mini-game skip as a category filter.

-Boosted XP and Unrestricted are fairly redundant currently as the main point of these categories is to go as fast as possible the only option that is the current separation is skipping fish racing. This is similar to what we have currently in the sense the same categories that existed before still exist just shifts Unrestricted to a filter slot to accommodate one other option which is standard XP with mini-game skips.

Option 2) Merging Boosted XP and Unrestricted into the same one and keep rest as is and any other mixed combo of accessibility settings will require a category extension.

-Again these are fairly redundant as the main point of these categories is to go as fast as possible the only option that is the current separation is skipping fish racing. This then would also include any future accessibility settings that get added in future versions of the game.

I'll start with the point of the topic first.

So your point was that it is too hard and random to win with rent-a-fish so we should turn on mini-game skip while understanding that you cannot win with rent-a-fish with mini-game skip enabled. If you have mini-game skip disabled your options to get a permanent fish are to win game with rent-a-fish or go take the rent-a-fish to violin. If you have mini-game skip enabled your options are win game with rent-a-fish or go take rent-a-fish to violin. So I guess your current argument is that you don't like doing fish racing with any of the fish mounts so it should be allowed to skip. Which comes back to the concept which other runners have stated mini-game skip just removes gameplay for the sake of removing gameplay.

As for your second point this isn't time consuming at all. I see you have moderation experience so I don't need to explain the basics. But obviously we aren't going to add every possible scenario of category without someone doing a run of it first. If you want to do a run of something you are correct you can and we will either have a category extension of it or if it fits and makes sense on the main board we will add it here. If we did what you are suggesting we would need a category for every combination of accessibility option and even potential the amount of xp boost available. No one at any point had nitpicked you for wanting to run said combination. You suggested mini-game skip be allowed with no specification of a separate category and it has been explained why it is not allowed on the current main category. I suggest and welcome you to hop in the discord where I ask the runners what they would want and take their input into what is done.

And I appreciate pointing out the rule mistake.

Texas, USAOh_Snap2 years ago

As I mentioned your scenario doesn't change with having mini game skip enabled. If you skip the mini game with rent-a-fish you do not get 1st, you get 10th. You get 1st with skipping with violin. Which again just skips gameplay since its designed to be winnable with violin.

Mini game race skipping will not be allowed currently for at the very least a non boosted xp category. Reason behind this currently the reset fest you are talking about isn't a thing, if you skip mini game with rent-a-fish it doesn't give you first. Second no one has even looked into manipulating rent-a-fish racing. Third if you do something like this and it turns out there is a perfectly reasonable strategy you can do to win with rent-a-fish and it is faster, then we have to keep the skip in and we just cut out gameplay due to a quick knee jerk reaction to a new game (because obviously skipping is faster than doing the race even if you win so old runs on a different ruleset have X amount of time advantage meaning invalidating old runs or keeping in an arbitrary rule).

The short: Currently not a problem, so not going to create a potential future problem until something is a current problem.

Guessing you are the same person who I let know on Twitch, but verified my old run for an example as I do not have a written guide. The run was probably my second attempt so definitely there can be improvements. Not a lot of usable sequence breaks in the game as dialogue options do not appear to progress if things are done out of order, despite you being able to get to king and even the blimp at start of game. There may be more same island sequence breaks that haven't been explored yet however.

Hello, recently it has come to my attention that in one of the newer releases of DBZ Kakarot (not exactly sure which one since there were 2-3 updates between my last run and they don't make patch notes) there was an update that makes the ending of fights significantly slower than earlier versions of the game. So this is to serve as a guide on how to downgrade versions on Steam.

  1. Have .NET core to use the DepotDownloader tool (simple google search for ".NET core download" should bring to you Microsoft's website)
  2. Download DepotDownloader from github (this is used by other speedrunning communities, the method to download old versions via Steam console does not work anymore) https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloader/releases
  3. Once you have downloaded and extracted DepotDownloader, navigate to folder in a cmd window
  4. Once in the directory where DepotDownloader is extracted use the following command to download DBZ Kakarot version 1.10 the username and password will need to be replaced with your own (if you have 2FA it will prompt you for your key in the cmd window after running this command) (additional command documentation is in the README located in the folder with DepotDownloader)

dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 851850 -depot 851851 -manifest 6028075188618766858 -username testuser -password NotMyPassword123

If you wish to download a different version of the game you can search for a different manifest using steamdb.

  1. After it is downloaded the depot will be in a folder where you extracted DepotDownloader. Copy these files into your Steam/steamapps/common/<game name> folder. Please note saves on current version will not be usable when you downgrade.

If you want some additional details there are quite a few guides either in other communities or by searching on Youtube/Google, this is mainly meant to serve as quick details as to the values for the depot/manifest that will get a more speedrun friendly version of this game.

Sorry was a bit late to seeing this post. I have done some runs, just haven't submitted anything yet. Yeah the game forces you to be very linear due to text not appearing if you skip things. You can actually get to the blimp right away, but as of now haven't found a way to progress the story. Haven't tried all options to see what lets you do things early, but so far the list of things I've tried that haven't worked:

Doing Crypt before Cave (you can finish it, but you need to go back through the Crypt again after completing cave to talk to the King's son). Going to volcano early (text to give you the key to enter isn't available) Talking to king early (text to open blimp doesn't appear, not that it matters since you can get blimp early without gate opening)

Still need to test if you can complete anything in the desert early and perhaps use the better items to complete island 1 faster and have all the progress you made in the desert still count, and obviously see if that would be worth it time wise.

Hello, new DLC categories are now available on the boards. So going to detail the categories added and why some categories are not added at this time.

Limitcut (Data Org):

Pretty self explainatory why this was added. As for the rules the difficulties and LV1 vs LV99 (not LV1) are the sub categories. Magic Boosts were banned in both categories to not make the fights over trivial especially at LV99. Timing with use the load remover for competitive times and those who are using it themselves, what we mean by this is, if you wish to submit a 4 hour blind attempt at this category thats great, but the moderator team will not be running the load remover for you. Now in the cases of people who cannot run the load remover themselves but still wish to compete for top times we can load remove these for you. All load removed times will be put in as IGT.

Re:Mind:

We followed the same concept as Limitcut and treated Re:Mind as a boss rush with cutscenes, so the same rules apply to this just timing starts at a different point.

One thing to note that is a bit sloppy that looking to see if there is a workaround for is with the filter of marking a time as load removed or not there is two of them one is the Limitcut filter and the other is the Re:Mind one.

What was left out:

EZ/Pro Codes modifiers on every category. This felt similar to NG+ subcategory on every category, which did not result in the most engaging category, so we did not include them as their own category (Any% rules were updated and other categories will be to note the use of codes being banned). Like always if there is enough genuine interest we can look at adding it, but for now we wanted to focus on the main categories.

Either way please read the rules and feel free to submit runs now. Load remover thread is linked in every ruleset that is using it and is stickied as a thread as well.

KilleDragon, it was sarcasm partially. Threads aren't ignored, it has been said probably at least 20 times now through discord and threads that we are not doing user made packs which is the majority of the requests you see are. This thread was discussed the day it was posted in mod chat.

Second requests sometimes seen: Partial story mode run that doesn't complete the full game. This is also obviously a no because it is extremely rare (mainly old games) to just complete part of a game as a category. If a run is too long for you to complete it is too long.

It is not the desire to not add more categories, it is the desire to not add arbitrary categories. This is common practice among the entire speedrunning community not exclusive to SMM2.

Regardless once again in case people are getting bogged down in the messages this category was added so yeah, not much more use in posts saying why we should add this category.

I agree I am sick of the mods on the boards ignoring threads because they do not want to add categories. How dare they add this category. In case the sarcasm wasn't painfully obvious this run is listed under Misc.

Also note: the addition of this category does not mean user level packs will be added nor does it mean all events with a level pack will be added. If you want to speedrun user levels the game has a built in timer and tracks the WRs already for you.

It is a glitch where you can use a save (made during the run itself) to advance the current quest to the next one, allowing you to skip fights and quests. It doesn't work for every single fight and quest, but you can skip a vast majority of the game with doing this trick over and over again.
