I speedrun SMB1, and my PB has reached the point where I want to move from emulator to console as to eliminate input lag. I have an NES, but not a CRT monitor, so I was wondering if any of you wonderful people could give me some pointers in regards to finding a good model. I would prefer 15-20 inches (60-75 cm) and up to or around $100.

Recently, I've been noticing an issue when doing attempts on the Nestopia emulator. The game's audio seems to run at a very slightly slower rate than the gameplay, causing it to slowly de-sync over the course of a run. It's not noticeable in the early levels, but by the time I reach world 8, the audio is off by around .2 of a second, which makes the de-sync easily detectable. This is a problem for me, as I use audio cues to perfectly time some jumps in world 8, and the de-sync becomes kind of irritating and causes me to lose my concentration on the game. Is this a known problem with emulator, and is there any way to fix it?

Really obvious how it works and completely pointless but still interesting in my opinion

Whenever I try to change the background for my theme it automatically reverts back to the one I had prior to changing it. Is something wrong with this feature right now or is there something I should see if I'm doing incorrectly?

Do I have to show both screens in the video or is showing only the top screen fine?

If you have any ideas for new rules or categories, please post them in this thread. All suggestions will be considered, but may not all be implemented. If they are not implemented, we will provide a reason for rejecting your suggestion.

I thought a feature like this on the pending actions tab would be nice so you could get an idea for how long it will be before your runs get verified. Basically next to the runs in verification there would be a column for where the run is in the game's queue. Should be pretty simple to add.

I got this new minus world PB today, but I have no idea if it was a 2:39.9x or a 2:40.0x. From Livesplit I got a time of 2:39.97 after going frame by frame, but I can't trust that Livesplit is accurate enough. This was done on FCEUX. Can someone retime this to the frame and let me know whether or not it is a 2:39? If not I want to do more runs to get a 2:39. Thanks.

I've been running for a while now, but thought I would introduce myself now that I have a PC that can stream. I'm Novawolf, a (mature) 15 year old speedrunner from Ohio. I do SMB (PB: 5:03) and want to learn The Lost Levels and SMW as well. I'll probably only stream on weekends from anywhere between 9PM-Midnight EST. I don't ask for any support on my runs but any given is greatly appreciated.

I know it's a little off topic (okay, a lot off topic) but thought it would be interesting to get some insight on this, since good fonts are crucial to making the Livesplit section of your screen look presentable. Also, I've been thinking of trying out new fonts for myself, and wanted to gather suggestions together.

I personally use a different font for letters and numbers. For Letters I use Segue UI Regular, as it's pretty basic and clean, so there's no going wrong with it. For numbers I use DS-Digital, which makes the timer use the seven segment display, the numbers commonly found in scoreboards and clocks. It's a neat design and is pretty fitting especially for retro games like SMB (the game I run).

Can someone recommend a PC they use for streaming and/or gaming that has fairly good components and isn't outrageously expensive? (Max. 800-900 USD)

Could someone give me some parameters as to what I would need in my computer in order to have quality streams (basically minimal lag/buffering) with 2-4 windows open in OBS?

Follow up to the last thread I started. This is what I was talking about with the RNG changing in the same level & framerule without me manipulating it. If there's anything I did that would manipulate it please let me know.

Is there a program or method available I can use to start a level on a specified framerule on an emulator? (I use FCEUX.)

In 8-2 I keep dying at the same section at the end. It's the small chamber with a pipe on one side, bullet blaster on the other, and three random parakoopas bouncing around inside it. If anyone knows a good way to approach this section please let me know.

Sorry for reposting this, but the old post title wasn't specific at all and I posted several times things that should have all been posted together. Anyway, I found an issue with the Livesplit plug-in for rounding times to the nearest framerule. The plug-in rounds the split times to multiples of 21 frames, or 0.35 seconds. Since NES and emulator run slightly faster than 60 FPS (60.09881), 21 frames isn't exactly 0.35 seconds. It's roughly 0.349424 seconds per framerule. I think the plug-in needs to use this exact amount of time rather than just 0.35. Then it will accurately measure split times.

Do the main emulators for this game run at the console’s FPS (60.09881) or at 60? If it runs at 60, does this mean that times will automatically be a bit slower if played on emulator?

Ohio, USANovawolf6 years ago

I think it would be neat if you could set splits that are equal to your golds as a certain color in the delta column. Is there a way to do this?

Ohio, USANovawolf6 years ago

Is there an autosplitter available for this game or one in development? I’m having a hard time splitting accurately and would like a more reliable way of knowing the time differences in my runs.
