Under the IL list when you're editing the game, you can add IL categories - right now there's one called "Just beat it!". Similar games have a distinction between Any% and All Star Coins, or "100%" (e.g. http://www.speedrun.com/nsmbds/individual_levels ).
Hi! I've been considering picking up this game pretty soon, but I'm curious about a couple of things. Firstly, why is there a category for "RULES" when it can just be entered in the settings to appear on each level? And secondly, would it be possible to split each IL into Any% and All Star Coins? Thanks in advance.
This is a complicated issue. Using real time can and will be inconsistent because of loading times, but the alternatives aren't much better, if at all.
One option is to add up all the individual level times to get a final time, but this discounts time in orbit, the Tower, etc. All inventory management would have to be done during a level and the Tower would be banned (which really isn't helpful for new game runs).
Another option is to use real time, but then go back through and remove loading times. Not only would this be incredibly tedious, but how would we account for - as an example - inventory management during the flight sequence before a mission? Is that loading time then added back on?
I'm very much open to suggestions here.
Honestly, it might be best to shift everything over to the IL table. Give every category (4/16/32/40/48 Track) its own section for the sub-categories (I/NI,150/200).
Regardless of demand, it seems odd to leave out 200cc when it's faster.
Small thing: because of my timezone, when I submit a run I tend to be a day ahead of most people, and this causes my run to stay at the top of the front page even though more runs are being submitted.
Really? If you get in that would be awesome! I'll swap over from ILs to Any% to help you with routing if that happens.
I only added that bit yesterday. Sorry I didn't bring this up sooner! Everyone who runs this basically fell off the map so I didn't know who to talk to, and then your run came in and I was like "well shit".
For now, I think the best rule for Any% NG is to restrict the use of DLC weapons. It alters the early game way too much and certain weapons are exclusives that you can't get anymore. I'm happy to hear other opinions though.
Fair point. That was originally to prevent people from just doing half the mission and claiming the time, but since we require a video it doesn't really matter now. Changed.
Alright, so quite a few people have come to me about how the categories are set up. From feedback, I think we should redo them like so:
- ILs are fine.
- Lv20% categories should be removed.
- Story runs become: Any%, All Levels, NG+ All Levels, NG+ All Levels Co-op (all excluding DLC).
- Still waiting on Any% Co-op rules.
- CE splits to CE Solo and CE Co-op, VoG stays one category (can't be soloed).
Thoughts?
How do we then ensure that at the start of the first mission, everyone is on an even playing field? The XP you get in the tutorial mission can vary.
So Any% Co-op: is it viable, and if so, how/where do we define the starting point of the run?
