If everyone else is comfortable with the honor system then I’m good with it. The speedrun community for the game is fairly small so I guess foul play isn’t too much of a concern.
If you see enough distinction between seeded and starting with a pre-igniter to keep the two separate then no worries.
The current naming system is clear enough as is, just a bit wordy in my opinion, which is really the only reason for renaming it.
I’m gonna do some seed hunting, unless someone knows a seed with a fast pre-igniter, and see about getting a run submitted when I get off work
And I guess a third question is do we rename the categories to be more cohesive? Something like any%, any% no preigniter, any% set seed etc
All the rules stated sound good to me, but I do have two additional questions. 1) how do we verify that hyperspace is the only mod? Is there a part of the hyperspace ui that only displays when it’s the only mod/if there are other mods? Requiring the mod folder to be submitted alongside the video still leaves room for manipulation. 2) With set seed obviously being able to guarantee a first jump pre-igniter, does this replace the start with pre-ignited category?
I for one would be very interested in seeded speedruns. Hopefully we can get enough support for it
The out of bounds under the boss arena doesn't really lead anywhere but to lautrec's cell, which just so happens to be under the tower with the bell. There is the plunge cancel glitch that get you to clip in, but I'm not entirely sure how it works, or if it requires the plunge animation. The out of bounds does end right under where the first ladder is located, but you can't interact with it to get back in bounds
There isn’t a posted splits file as there isn’t really any need. Its just the seven sectors and boss. Most people just use a timer as opposed to actual splits due to the lack of run changing glitches.
You’re welcome! Looking forward to seeing the run! I’m gonna be trying to get any% optimized a little further, 15:3x is the goal I think, just haven’t had a whole lot of time to grind it
Howdy! Icons look good, well done!
It's happened to me twice, in first playthrough and in speedrun practice, the door keypads sometimes lock up and won't let me type the code, end up having to reload the previous mission to be able to continue. Anyone else have this problem and/or know of a fix? I am on steam version of the game if that makes a difference
I've been checking out the idea, and the run is significantly harder. no hacking really reduces the pool of usable weapons, making it a lot grindier if going for a gunship build. obviously the record is a boarding strategy with crystal b, but I do wonder if shield piercing weapons like with crystal A might be faster. interest from 3 runners might not be enough to mandate the creation of a new category, but I do highly recommend running it yourself and submitting for others to see examples and potentially generating enough interest to warrant it.
Due to balance changes and bug patches, just turning off AE wouldn’t accomplish the same run. You would need to downpatch thr game to before AE came out, which I’m not sure is allowed or that anyone has a file for. A no AE category could possibly be created if there’s enough interest
I wholeheartedly agree that if sector skips end up just being performance based they should be restricted to a misc category, kind of like zips in elden ring. and requiring extra out of game processes to do them is certainly a grey area. hopefully we can find a way to execute them without lag or generate lag in game without extra processes
the only mod when filming was the preigniter mod, so should definitely be possible on vanilla. If it gets consistent, I fully understand the desire to have main leaderboards without it as it is quite a major shakeup, but as opposed to an outright ban on it I think restricting it to its own category is a more tempered measure
So figuring out a consistent way of generating lag seems to be the key. Anyone know a good way?
Its done upon entry, so theoretically you could skip all the way from sector 1 to sector 8. In the video I entered sector 6, got some lag when opening the jump menu which opened the next sector screen and was able to immediately jump to sector 7
Found this glitch awhile ago but didn't have footage until today, I believe it to be done by opening jump on the first frame after closing the enter sector pop up, which obviously the lag assists. I'm going to continue trying to recreate this in live runs, hope to get it consistent
Since the Torch and Trophy update makes it so reaching the last inn is an official end to a run without clearing a lair, I'm thinking that three distinct sub-categories are reasonable
Any%: Reach the last inn True Ending: Kill the Chapter Boss All Bosses: Clear out each lair
He is certainly a challenge as he'll only sustain 3 deaths. Pretty sure he has less mana as well which puts quite a burden on ending fights quickly
