I decided to make a TAS of the game, and in the process of making it I discovered some brand new glitches and skips. It turns out that a sub 3:15 is possible in this game, although a time like that is definitely humanly impossible due to the precise mashing and gameplay necessary to achieve it.

Anyways, here is what I discovered:

1.) Checkpoint Warps

If you reset right before you collect a checkpoint, you can respawn at that checkpoint and get teleported forwards a tiny distance. This usually saves 5 frames, but it varies from checkpoint to checkpoint. For some checkpoints, it saves no time or is even slower. The key to saving time with this tech is to time your reset so that you collect the checkpoint at the same time that the screen completely fades out. This is very minor tech, but there are so many checkpoints throughout the game that it adds up to saving a few seconds, and it's not too hard to do if you have good visual cues for where to reset

2.) Glitched Ground Pounds

I actually discovered this glitch a very long time ago, but didn't think it was that useful until I made the TAS. If you hold up to slow fall and down to ground pound at the same time, you can charge up a ground pound and break blocks, but you fall at the normal slow-falling speed. You can use this to skip climbing all the way up the ladder after you get the third orb, and you can skip riding the wind in the following section too. You can also use this tech to make the cycle skip easier in the moving platforms room.

3.) Cutscene Skips

This sounds like a huge deal but it actually doesn't save very much time and probably isn't worth going for in a speedrun. I found a way to regain control of the player during the cutscene that plays after you collect an orb. It involves respawning at a checkpoint, so it only saves time for the first and last orb. The way it works is you reset right before you collect the orb, and you press space to stop the shaking effect thing. When you respawn, press space or enter to immediately save the game at the checkpoint you respawned at, and when you close the textbox you'll be able to move again. This doesn't stop the dialogue from popping up, but you have a few frames to make progress when you'd normally be frozen.

4.) Moving While Textboxes Are Active

I haven't tested this glitch very much, but for some reason it doesn't work if you try to do it with the first orb. It saves time with the last orb, but it only saves 4 frames and is kind of tricky. I don't recommend going for it. The setup starts out the same as the regular cutscene skip, except after you regain control, you move to the side of the checkpoint and then save the game again. Make sure not to close the textbox! The game will try to start the dialogue, but since you already have a textbox open it won't work. You can close the checkpoint's text after a little bit and then you can continue playing the game while there's dialogue on screen.

5.) Hovering

I'm pretty sure you guys probably know about this already, but if you land on the ground while slow falling, you can actually float one pixel off of the ground as long as you keep holding the up arrow and you stay on flat ground. If you maintain the hover, you can climb up ladders one frame faster, so it's a good idea to use hovers when possible.

Here's a video of the TAS, I hope you enjoy!

Demon castle in 2:23. I redid the TAS at 60fps on hard mode and I plan to submit it to tasvideos.org

You need to make it a permanent invite. I can't join

I think that users should be allowed to link to their TASvideos or Oengus accounts on their sr.c profile, since they are speedrunning related and serve as another way to contact people if they go inactive.

If you jump into one of the bugs from below, when you land back on the ground you'll get popped up into the air, which skips having to wait around for them to run into you. It saves at least a second in level 1, and can definitely save more time throughout the run.

Do you have any speedrunning or speedrunning-related goals for 2023? If you do, share them here! (And next year we can check this thread again to see how things went).

Here are mine: I want to get a sub 2:30 in ".S" I want to get a sub 2:30 in "Tim_" Any% And I want to get a sub 6:30 in "Mobility" NMG Contact

Its just 3 games so hopefully I can get everything done this year.

Edit: probably should have titled this "share your speedrunning Goals" or something because people seem to have misinterpreted the thread as just being about my goals, and are wishing me luck without saying anything themselves

Right now, my run is placed second on the leaderboard with a time of 1:23.883, and Akuretaki's run is timed at 1:23.617. However, both of our videos are at 30 frames per second, which means the final time of our runs must be a multiple of 1/30, the length of 1 frame of video. This means that the runs must be timed wrong. I double checked and the times for both runs are 1:23.833, and I have proof that these times are correct, as shown in the below video:

I'm not sure how the incorrect times were gotten, but I believe that my run and Akuretaki's runs were retimed using a different frame as the starting point, and the retime tool that the moderator uses defaults to 60fps, resulting in the discrepancies. I retimed both of the runs in the video using the first frame that the screen brightens after the fade in, but the timer in Akuretaki's video starts roughly .2 seconds after the screen initially brightens, when the screen brightens for the second time. It's actually somewhat difficult to tell when the screen starts to fade, so I suggest that the timing rules be changed so that a more clear starting frame is used, such as first movement or the first frame the inside of the house is visible.

I don't know what happened here. I just phased right through the enemy. I didn't hit it with my whip or take damage. When I analyze the footage frame by frame it appears that I teleported forwards to the other side of the enemy.

I'm really looking forward to the Super Mario World and Super Mario Maker races, since those have been very entertaining in past GDQs. I'm also excited about Dayoman's Spyro 120% run and the Ocarina of Time TAS.

What runs are you guys looking forward to?

Edit: GDQ schedule is here: https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule

I'm going to make a support hub ticket with this, but I thought I'd also make it a thread so that people can discuss. I also believe that this has been requested in the past.

It would be really nice if moderators could choose what the default platform for a game is. In the game mobility, almost all of the runs are done on PC, and a few of them are done on web. There is one run that is done on a PSVita port of the game. Even though PC is the most common category, PSVita is the default platform for some reason, and there is no way to change it. A lot of the time runners forget to change the platform field when submitting a run, and if we could choose the default, we would get less frequent submissions with incorrect platforms and save everyone time and energy.

Decided to make an accurate wr history of the game, the progression on src is highly inaccurate. So, I did a bit of research, and made this google doc with all the wr times. https://docs.google.com/document/d/12sfooag5tH3xj55deOga-wWlnAWmP21-yyq4UAHlF_Y/edit?usp=sharing

Okay, so I noticed today a kind of interesting thing about how the forums work. The site forums are not actuall "site forums", they are game forums in games that don't have categories, leaderboards, resources, etc. Basically, if you go to https://speedrun.com/talk , you get a message that says there are no categories for this game yet. You can use the URL to go to the empty resources page, guides page, stats page, etc. So me and a few other people in discord started talking about how the URL system is kind of broken, and then I got the bright idea to try renaming a game to "knowledgebase" and seeing if that would even work. I did it, and now the game is completely inaccessible. The game only has 1 run (mine) and nobody has submitted anything in the 1 month it's been on the site, so I'm not too worried about it, but I'd like this URL bug to be fixed soon, and to get the game back. I can't delete the game, edit it, or submit to it. This is a very major bug, you could do this to any game with any other URL on the site and completely destroy it.

Recently a user who is occasionally active on these forums @Output was hacked on both his yt and his discord. It's likely that his src account might be hacked next. If you have a mutual server with output and you see any suspicious links, don't click them and instead have a moderator ban him and delete his message history. I'd also advise you not to click any links you see in forum posts made by output until everything gets solved.

Update: he has recovered his discord, so hopefully everything will be okay now. i recommended that he change all his passwords

I've gotten at least 3 notifications every time someone ties the world record. I don't mind the tie wr notifs, but why are they appearing 3 times each? https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/832026155677777940/862473327850160178/unknown.png https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/832026155677777940/862114301366894612/unknown.png https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/832026155677777940/862352000162463764/unknown.png
