@JdkzGlitchmaster Generally in randomizers for any game, yes glitches are required to complete the game. You could potentially get really lucky with the items you receive and complete the game without using glitches but generally you must use glitches to progress at particular points. its kinda the point of playing a randomizer. OOT randomizers are no exception

I don't speedrun this game personally, so it isn't really important to me personally but I do watch WW Speedruns from time to time, and I noticed there was a new category called Any% No Barrier Skip, but isn't that the same exact route as if you were going for all dungeons? probably a silly out-of-touch question to ask with a very simple answer, but I was just wondering if there was a purpose for having separate categories here.

So I personally sorta phase in and out of the speedrunning community, and when I came back to check speedrun.com just because and all the sudden the Individual Level leaderboards are completely abolished, nowhere to be found. Is there a particular reason for this? just wondering

Michigan, USAMarthur7 years ago

Yes, it is allowed (since there is one any% run on emu on the leaderboard) but I'm fairly certain there are restrictions. I wouldn't be the one to know though since I don't run this game, sorry.

Update: On the rules it is stated that times under 4h30m must be run on console (Any%)

Yeah pretty much all glitches work in both eng and jp, and all versions of each. theres only a select few in which are version specific. for speedrunning, version specific glitches for 1.0 and 1.1 are banned for emu and vc anyway

i checked it out and downloaded thug and it doesnt work... i was running win8 at the time. does it not work on newer versions of windows? or do i have to do something to get it to work. i messed with compatibility settings for a while and didnt get much out of it. it just wont run the game.

Yeah i guess youre right @Valientlink. and @Fig02 the leaderboards arent really a big deal since speedrun.com already has the full leaderboard of all major categories for all zelda games, and is constantly updated and active. the main thing im personally concerned about is the tutorials and glitches threads, since its so well layed out and often very helpful. thats just me though, but i think a lot of people would agree it was/could be a good resource

I kind of get @perpetucake's point about VC being an emulator, which is true. Not to mention in a lot of ways PJ64 is more accurate than VC... but thats beside the point. and it was never said that GIM was banned. it just states that 1.0 and 1.1 specific glitches are banned and also you must use default settings, that being the plugins that the emulator came with and used by default. Most specifically the GFX plugin. along with the fact that turning off the framelimit and such are obviously banned.

Hey guys, as almost all of you probably know the ZSR website is dead; nobody updates it or uses it at all. I honestly dont understand why, its a very well layed out website and i really like the list of speedrun glitches and techniques it has. The sad thing is its so outdated now. Is it possible to bring it back? start updating it, maybe even migrate the leaderboards from ZSR and Speedrun.com together as one. Just something i was thinking about. Ive always really liked ZSR and its sad that its not really used anymore.

I think its a good idea. Child Dungeons uses a lot of glitches (as does almost every category for OOT) so it would be pretty cool to add on a glitchless variation to child dungeons, an already cool yet obscure category.

Yeah i probably shouldve provided more info. Im using an HDTV, a Toshiba although i am unaware of the model. I dont really have a great CRT nor do i like their size. I didnt notice any major input delay, but then again im used to using a wireless controller on emu so im pretty used to input delay. And i am using the japanese version, and havent tried the US version for comparison. i didnt think it would matter lol. I will check though. I am using the stock composite cable that came with the wii, although its spliced together cause it ripped a long time ago. I recently considered that could be an issue, so i might buy a component wii cable for better video output and also to replace my terrible spliced cable. i dont yet have a capture card so i dont use a splitter or any of that. Either way, thanks for all the info you provided @Jelster , very helpful and informative. Ill try a couple things and see if i can find out what the problem is exactly. And it very well may be my TV @Jonas, but theres a couple other things it could be so im not sure i wanna go buy a television if i dont need to

people have noticed it, the old 18:50 run is outdated. it should probs be removed from the list, idk why it hasnt.

Michigan, USAMarthur7 years ago

alright thanks @SnowieY, thats what i thought but a lot of people do the other method so i didnt know.

Im starting to speedrun this game a bit, and currently working out a route for myself. but i have one question, which is better; the fairy fountain alternative exit or index warp? i know how to index warp pretty well and that is what i currently use, but it seems like the grotto wrong warp thing is faster. is it really faster? cause you have to climb stone tower, and plus you have to hit each and every owl statue if you want to warp to places. so which is really better?

I know its in beta, but i should let you know that after playing it for a while, i realized a couple file names gave me the vanilla items... I tried Marthur, and also a filename with all 9s and they both had the same thing. i then tried ABC and it was randomized again. Just letting you know. also having the keys randomized is a little chaotic, same with BKs and stuff. please keep working on this though, its a lot of fun

Michigan, USAMarthur7 years ago

Since the MM randomizer by DeathBasket, i always thought an OOT randomizer would be cool, so ill check it out for sure.

One question though; is it randomized by filename? thats how MM randomizer and Beta Quest were so i figured itd be like that. Plus that way its good for races Also is there a WAD available at the moment?

@AnimeGameKid7797 No i dont mean Wii U, i know Wii U is not a good system for speedruns. Im talking about Wii VC, the game is so damn dark and i dont know why
